LES POWELL STARZ TO CELEBRATE AT MOUNTIES
Les Powell School in Mount Pritchard of Western Sydney looks like most other schools across the state. However, the unique aspect of this school is its incredible commitment to provide quality individual learning programs for students with a diverse range of complex learning and support needs.
Students attending Les Powell School present with moderate to severe intellectual disability, and may have additional needs such as autism, sensory impairment, challenging behaviour, physical and language disability.
Of the total student enrolment, 64% have a language background other than English, with 4% identifying as Aboriginal. With a focus on inclusivity and using resources that focus on curriculum and extra learning
support, Mounties is pleased to have provided the school a grant to assist with its Year 12 Graduation.
Mounties Group Board of Director, Denis Byrne was pleased to award this grant as part of the organisation’s long-standing relationship with the local school.
“Mounties Group and Les Powell School have enjoyed a relationship over many years, with our annual Bunny Run including a visit to the local school,” said Mr Byrne.
“As part of Category Two ClubGRANTS, we are pleased to cover the fees involved in hosting the school’s Year 12 graduation in December,” he added.
The decision by Mounties to cover the room hire fees for Les Powell School’s graduation ceremony significantly relieves
the financial burden on the school and ensures they can plan a suitable event for students.
“Planning a graduation event involves various expenses, and the elimination of venue costs allows the school to reallocate their limited resources towards enhancing the overall experience for graduates and for other educational purposes,” continued Mr Byrne.
Relieving Principal of Les Powell School, Mrs Jyoutsna Gupta is delighted Mounties has supported the school with this small but valuable commitment.
“Les Powell School serves students with unique educational needs, and our graduation ceremony holds great significance. It symbolises the culmination
of years of hard work, determination, and personal growth for both students and educators,” said Mrs Gupta.
“By waiving the room hire fees, Mounties enables us to provide a dignified and inclusive environment for the graduating students, their families, and the school community to honour their achievements.
“We appreciate Mounties’ support for Les Powell School as it exemplifies the positive impact of collaboration between local businesses and educational institutions. By offering their venue at no cost, Mounties once again demonstrates its dedication to fostering a strong relationship with the local community,” added Mrs Gupta.
Les Powell School will host its special Year 12 graduation at Mounties Starz function room in December this year.
MOUNTIES CONTINUE TO QUADRUPLE THEIR SUPPORT OF MIRACLE BABIES
132 babies are born every day across Australia that require specialised care. That’s six babies every hour. Sadly, Miracle Babies aren’t able to reach every family, but thanks to the ongoing support of Mounties, they are able to continue their annual event – Quadruple Giving Day.
Mounties, as Founding Partner, is proud to have worked with Miracle Babies Foundation since this donation drive commenced in 2017 and are pleased to support the 2023 event on 23 May.
Every year in Australia around 48,000 newborn babies require the help of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Nursery (SCN). 27,000 of these babies are born premature and up to 1,000 babies lose their fight for life.
The Miracle Babies Foundation has a special place in the heart of Mounties’ Board Director Lorraine Dean, who is passionate about keeping children safe and happy in our community, starting at birth.
“Miracle Babies Foundation is Australia’s leading organisation supporting premature and sick newborns, their families and the hospitals that care for them,” explained Ms Dean.
“For families, the experience of having a baby come into the world not as expected or planned is life changing. Without support, this overwhelming and traumatic experience can have lifelong effects on the emotional wellbeing of these miracle families - it affects the entire family unit.
“Parents with a baby in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Nursery (SCN) are in need of urgent support and the Miracle Babies Foundation NurtureProgram provides just that,” she added.
As part of the Category Two ClubGRANTS scheme, Mounties is delighted to pledge its support for the upcoming Quadruple Giving Day with a target to raise $120,000.
“This project raises valuable funds to ensure this worthy service can maintain its services to assist babies born premature or sick and support their families across Australia.
“As a Matching Donor, Mounties will help the Miracle Babies Foundation rally community support, and every dollar donated by the community will be quadrupled by their collective matching donors.
“With Mounties Group’s expansion into health care, we are all too familiar with the stress, pressure and incredible emotional burden that is placed on families when they are faced with their baby needing special care.
“We are proud to continue to partner with this fantastic Foundation who support families at this challenging time, but also beyond the Hospital right up until these miracles grow and transition into school years,” concluded Ms Dean.
Miracle Babies Foundation advocates for better, healthier outcomes for newborns and their families challenged by prematurity or sickness and this special donation drive is all about committing to support them, so they can support others.
“Donations made on Quadruple Giving Day will help to expand the reach of our peer support services and vital resources for the remainder of the year, allowing us to support a greater percentage of those 48,000 Australian families with a premature or sick newborn,” explained Kylie Pussell, CEO of Miracle Babies Foundation.
“On this day, we call on the community to show their support. For 24 hours only, all donations will be quadrupled, with thanks to our Matching Donors including Mounties, who have been with us by our side for this event since inception in 2017,” she added.
The Miracle Babies Foundation provides a 24-hour hotline, family support and discharge programs that continue to work with parents beyond the hospital.

Specialists in Home Care Services
At Mounties Care Home Care, we understand the importance of getting the right support service for your loved one.
Making the decision to utilise home care services can be a hard one and knowing who to trust and the level of care you require can be an emotional choice. But at Mounties Care Home Care we are here for you every step of the way.
What is a Home Care Package?
Home Care is a support service for seniors who need assistance with daily care, yet want to remain independent in their own homes.
Funding is provided by the government in accordance with your care requirements, which are determined through an assessment process.
To qualify for a Home Care package, individuals must meet the minimum age requirement of 65 years or above.
Your financial situation does not affect your eligibility – you may need an income assessment through Services Australia to work out what your contribution may be.
How can I access a Home Care Package?
My Aged Care coordinates the assessment of a package and a referral must be submitted either by yourself, a family member (with your consent) or a coordinator. A referral can be done either over the phone or online. Once a referral is submitted, My Aged Care will conduct a short assessment over the phone to determine whether you are eligible for assessment of a Home Care package.
If you are eligible, you will be referred to ACAT (Aged Care Assessment Team) for a face-to-face assessment. ACAT will assess you and provide a report with recommendations for the most appropriate package in line with your care needs.
