ClubGRANTS

THE POWER OF

POSSIBILITIES Small acts when multiplied by millions of people can transform the world. At Mounties Group, we are passionate about supporting local not-for-profits operating to enhance quality of life, develop resilient and adaptive communities, and support strong governance and civic engagement for sustainability. Through the ClubGRANTS program, Mounties Group funds projects that help address societal deficiencies within the Fairfield, Liverpool and Northern Beaches local government areas. A ClubGRANTS presentation night was held at Mounties in August to celebrate the provision of funding to 39 organisations and 50 projects ranging from support for seniors, youth, linguistically diverse, and to other disadvantaged citizens of our community. Amongst the recipients is The Ted Noffs Foundation, which has received a generous $52,000 grant to provide high school students with an opportunity to share stories, music and issues of local public

concern through the medium of podcast. Other beneficiaries include The Australian Chinese Youth Sports Federation ($51,000), Macular Disease Foundation Australia ($47,256) and Good Shepherd Australia/NZ ($46,985), just to name a few. Kevin Ingram, Mounties Group President, said: “In the past six years alone, we have contributed $34.5 million to community life in South West Sydney and on the Northern Beaches as a part of ClubGRANTS funding.” “The combined total community support provided by Mounties Group for the 2016/2017 financial year is $5,775,625, or 163% of our total profit.” The ClubGRANTS program recognises the important role our smaller charities and community groups play in connecting people and positively shaping our nation. It’s just one of many ways Mounties Group is actively and engaged in the communities in which we live and work.

MOUNTIES RUGBY LEAGUE PUTTS FOR

AUTISM Golfers and rugby players, hold your breath - a new sport could be on the rise! Any guess as to what it’s called? Rugby Golf! Much like golf, the aim is to get a football into a hole from teeing areas in the lowest number of kicks possible. It may be possible in the UK, but not at Mounties.

The only association we could come up with between the two professions would be the Mounties Rugby League Charity Golf Day held in July earlier this year. The day brought together Mounties Group officials, rugby league legends Ricky Stuart, Terry Lamb, Peter Kelly, Barry Ward and several sponsors including Green Options, New Era Properties, Veolia Australia and Griffin Air Conditioning, for networking and the opportunity to raise valuable funds for the Ricky Stuart Foundation to support people struggling with autism. Golfers swung, pitched and puttered their way to raising over $20,000 for the charity. Special thanks to host Tim Gilbert from Channel 9, who was the reason for the success behind the auctions and raffles. “I would like to thank Mounties Group for their continued support of not only the Canberra Raiders and the Rugby League but the Ricky Stuart Foundation,” said Ricky Stuart. “The club looks beyond helping sport and Rugby League and opens its arms to the community and charities such as mine and I am really grateful for that.” Rugby League Manager Steve Litvensky said, “The golf day is a chance for everyone behind Mounties Rugby League to play a round together and not only celebrate the success of our teams, but help the Foundation leave a positive, fun and supportive impact on the community in which we live and compete.”

4 pieces fresh barramundi 2 tomatoes 1 Spanish onion 1 avocado Parsley Chilli flakes Olive oil

recipe OF THE MONTH

Preheat oven to 200 degrees celsius. Avocado Salsa

1. Dice tomato and onion and place in a mixing bowl. 2. Scoop avocado and dice. TIP: to check if an avocado is ripe, gently press on the top next to the stem with your finger. It should give slightly but not remain indented. 3. Finely slice parsley, and add to the mixing bowl.

4. Add 2 tablespoons olive oil, and chilli flakes to taste. A nice helping of salt will bring out the perfectly ripe tomato and avocado. Mix and place in fridge. Barramundi

1. Cut the belly off the barramundi – this will be the part that is whiter to the rest of the fish. TIP: this will be great for a fish stock, but too chewy and gristly to eat.

2. Place the fish on a lined baking tray and season well, with a nice helping of olive oil per piece. 3. Bake for 10 minutes or until fish is a radiant white in colour.

FASHIONS ON THE FIELD Melbourne Cup is a fantastic kick-off to the warmer months in Australia, where fun, frocks and festivities go hand in hand with a frolicking good time. This year’s fashions seem like they’ve been made specially with Sydney-siders’ love of spring and summer sunshine in mind: bold blocks of primary colours, statement stripes, head to toe floral, and good news for those who can’t decide what to wear - mixing and matching are en vogue this season; so, whether you’re going out to buy something new, or pulling out something from the back of the wardrobe, you can still be on trend. Gentlemen, the only rule you need to stick to is to make sure your suit fits you properly - so stand tall, shoulders back, and make sure you can button up! Other than that, leave the boring black suit for Derby Day and embrace something a little more lively for the big race. It’s a great excuse to pop out of your box and show your true colours. As for hats, with the House of Dior exhibit underway at the National Gallery of Victoria, we’re expecting to see some classic throwback styles on the field in Melbourne. For those watching from further afield, hats pushed further back from the face are on-trend or, if you’re don’t want anything too fancy, floral halos and intricate headbands are just as exquisite. Did you know? While there is no formal dress code for the general public at Flemington, those in the Members’ Enclosure are expected to dress to a certain standard. Men must wear tailored pants, blazer, tie and dress shoes, and ladies must “maintain a suitable standard in keeping with the dignity of the Members’ Enclosure”. Overseas visitors are welcome to wear the formal dress of their country.

Your instructor will also get to know you (YES WE KNOW WHEN YOU ARE MISSING!) and will be there to support and encourage you along your journey. It is a really good idea to arrange to meet a friend at the gym, because when you work out alone, it doesn’t disappoint anyone when you skip a session. But if you work out with a partner, you become accountable for showing up at the appointed time.
