MOUNTIES CELEBRATES
LOCAL SPORTS STARS On Friday 26 October, Mounties Group celebrated its local sporting community at the annual Sub Club Awards Presentation Night. Mounties Group has over 25 Sub Clubs across their venues, with teams in several different sports including cricket, fishing, indoor bowls, hockey, rugby league, netball and more. In 2018 several clubs celebrated their 50th year on the fields, in conjunction with Mounties’ Club 50th anniversary. The Sub Clubs awards presentation celebrated local community members who have shown
outstanding sportsmanship, support for their teammates, and have helped Mounties Sub Clubs continue to succeed. Mounties is thrilled to have another fantastic year of sport on the field. Kevin Ingram, Mounties Group President, said: “Sport continues to grow within our membership, as well as grow our membership. Every year, more than 2,500 Mounties members participate in Sub Clubs, and we’re excited to welcome players back on the fields in 2019 for what’s expected to be another fabulous year.”

PRetty in Pink When all members of the community pull together for a united cause, the power becomes unlimited. The outcome from an entire community effort is something greater than what an individual can achieve alone. Mounties Group participated in the inaugural Pink Ribbon awareness month this October raising $2511.90 towards the Cancer Council’s fight against breast cancer. Our seven clubs, members, guests, and several staff were drowning in a sea of pink as they donned their pink Mounties Group 50th Anniversary t-shirts to raise money for a great cause. Donation’s were also collected boosting our fundraising total.

Coping with
CHRISTMAS While Christmas can be a time of fun and festivity, it can also be a stressful time having you feeling more stuffed than a turkey! Here are some tips on how to enhance your health and mental wellbeing to ensure you make the most of the festive season.
Stress less! Be proactive and ensure all the Christmas preparations are completed early. Also make some time these holidays to unwind and relax. Pursue mindfulness activities such as yoga and tai chi. Avoid overindulging on food or alcohol. Both are key influencers of mood swings which could effectively ruin your day or affect your personal relationships with others. Ensure everything in moderation!
Spend some quality time with your family and friends. After all it is the season for family and social gatherings. Mounties Christmas Carnival (15 & 16 December) and Carols (17 December) are a great way to get your dose of family and fun!
Give to those less fortunate. Gift giving is an act of altruism which consequently, will make you feel good about yourself. Mounties is collecting gifts for The Smith Family until 10 December.

MONTH BOURBON AND PINEAPPLE GLAZED HAM

Ingredients • 2/3 cup brown sugar • 6 cloves • 6 bay leaves • 1 pineapple, core removed, sliced • 2 tbs chardonnay vinegar • ½ bunch bay leaves • 1.8kg smoked ham Instructions 1. To make the glaze, place sugar, spices and 1 tablespoon of water in a large fry pan over high heat. Swirl pan occasionally until bubbling and golden. Add pineapple pieces and vinegar and cook for 6 minutes, turning pineapple pieces occasionally, until pineapple is golden and a glaze has formed from the fruit juices. Set aside to cool. 2. Preheat oven to 180C. Line a rack with bay leaves. Using a small sharp knife, cut around ham shank in a zigzag pattern, then carefully run knife under skin, around the edge of the ham. 3. Gently lift off skin in 1 piece by running your fingers between the rind and the fat. Discard skin, then score fat in parallel lines, 1cm apart. Baste fat with some of the glaze and place ham on the rack and set in a large roasting pan. 4. Roast ham, basting with remaining glaze every 20 minutes, for 2 ½ hours or until caramelised. Add the pineapple pieces in the last 30 minutes. Slice and serve with caramelised pineapple. Recipe by Samantha Coutts

What is the greatest thing about your job? It is hard to narrow it down to one thing because I love everything about my job. If I had to narrow it down to two parts, it would be the fact I get to work closely with most departments/employees and the great work/life balance which the job allows for. What do you believe makes a great customer experience? To me it’s just about getting the small things right, from recognition to attentiveness and something as simple as remembering a person’s order.

MOUNTIES SWIMMING COACH
MAKING A SPLASH Mounties Swim Club is going from strength to strength under the guidance of head coach Blake Medhurst. Medhurst has been swimming his whole life and leads the squad that includes kids aged eight to 18 and has seen massive growth over his tenure. “When I first started with the squad about three years ago, we had about 60 kids, and now the squad has gone up to around 200 members,” said Medhurst. “We’re really excited about how many kids are getting into the pool, and how many are finding joy in swimming.” The Club is also enjoying tremendous results, seeing two members of the squad qualify for the 2019 Australian Age Championships in Adelaide early next year. They have also secured spots in the Swimming NSW Open Water Championships, to be held in Sydney later this year. “What I want people to know is that swimming is just like any other sport – you show up, you hang with your mates, you get in the pool and you compete. While it’s an individual sport in some respects, it’s definitely a huge team sport, and your squad is like your family,” said Medhurst.
