Improve your high school grades or pick up courses you need for admission by taking academic upgrading in English, Math, Biology, Chemistry, Social Science and Physics. Our courses cover the approved Alberta high school curriculum as well as additional skills that prepare students for firstyear university coursework. Academic Upgrading course grades will appear on your Mount Royal transcript. However, these courses are not eligible for Alberta Education high school graduation, credit or transcript purposes. This course comprehensively covers the essential topics of algebra and the basic principles of geometry to an intermediate level. Part 1: Set Theory, Probability and Statistics Topics include Set Theory, Probability, Fundamental Counting Principle, Permutations, Combinations, Introduction to Statistics (sampling methods, presentation of data, measures of central tendency and dispersion, the normal distribution). Social Science (SOSC) SOSC 0130 – Canadian History and Government in Perspective (0 credits) 3 hours lecture per week. This course imparts a knowledge and understanding of the multiple perspectives in the historical development of regions that eventually comprised early and modern Canada. It also interprets those developments in their European and North American contexts incorporating a broad framework of philosophical precepts and perspectives that include Ideology, Individualism, Collectivism and Liberalism combined in the Canadian context with social, political, economic and legal historical institutions. This course will provide opportunities for students to develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge that will enable them to become engaged, active, informed and responsible citizens. Application and Registration Apply to Mount Royal and Register for classes STEP ONE: APPLY TO MOUNT ROYAL • Go to mtroyal.ca and click on Apply. • Click on Apply Alberta and complete all questions as prompted. • Select Open Studies or Academic Upgrading Only as your program option. • Pay the non-refundable $100 application fee. All high school and post-secondary transcripts are required for admission to Open Studies. In addition, applicants must satisfy Mount Royal’s English Language Proficiency and meet all course pre-requisites. For more information, go to mtroyal.ca/admission and click on Admission Requirements.
STEP TWO: PAY THE REGISTRATION DEPOSIT • If you gain admission, you will receive an acceptance letter with your MRU student ID, as well as information on how to access advising and registration information. • You will need to accept your admission offer and pay a $200 registration deposit prior to registering for courses. The registration deposit will be applied to your tuition fees. Follow the instructions included in your offer of admission package.

STEP THREE: REGISTER FOR CLASSES • Once you have paid your registration deposit, you are eligible to register for classes once registration for new students opens. • Go to mymru.ca and activate your account if you have not already done so. • Click the Student Resources tab. • Click the Registration link. • Click on Select Term and choose Winter 2014 Credit. • Proceed with registration using the Add/drop classes link or the Look up classes link.
