HOPE FOR OUR GRADUATES As a result of our emphasis on holistic education, we hope our graduates are well-rounded young people who
are aware of their own gifts, talents, and limitations, recognize the need to continue their own spiritual, psychological, emotional, social, intellectual, and physical growth, and respond to God’s call to be balanced, compassionate adults.
Because of our emphasis on spiritual growth and religious values, we hope that our students graduate with

a strong belief that God loves them, a willingness to respond to Jesus’ directive to love one another, a commitment to compassion, justice, and service, a desire for a deeper relationship with God through prayer, an intentional integration of faith and daily life, an understanding of the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church, and a willingness to become active members in their local church communities.
Because of our efforts at firm and friendly discipline, we hope that our graduates have developed self-discipline
that guides their actions, are sensitive to and respond with compassion to the limitations of others, have respect for authority and for persons for whom they are responsible, and approach relationships with fairness, mutual trust, and cooperation.
Because of the caring nature and personal attention given to our students, we hope our graduates genuinely
care for others, value themselves and others as unique children of God, and nurture positive relationships and build community.
As a result of our commitment to academic excellence, we hope our graduates are intellectually curious, are prepared to meet the academic demands of college and work, strive to reach their intellectual potential, and use their intellectual gifts to serve others more effectively and generously.

RELIGIOUS VALUES Catholic values of love, faith, morality, and service are the spiritual core of Mount Saint Charles. In a world that more and more often encourages moral and spiritual ambiguity, we give our young people a solid moral foundation for living in peace with their brothers and sisters, and in the Lord’s eternal grace. Mount owes its faith traditions to the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, the order of Catholic brothers who founded Mount Saint Charles and nurtured it over the decades as teachers, coaches, mentors, and staff. The Brothers of the Sacred Heart are dedicated to service in the example of Father Andre Coindre, who founded the order in 1821 after saving two girls from freezing in a church doorway. Religious practice is woven into life at Mount Saint Charles. There are traditional observances such as First Friday Masses and the Feast of the Sacred Heart. Community service time in the curriculum enables students to work with those less fortunate in their communities. Our goal is to inspire students to make service a part of their spiritual lives as Jesus did: “for even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve others.”
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Mount Saint Charles nurtures learners who can think critically, analyze, create, collaborate, and communicate. FINE ARTS Mount Saint Charles’ fine arts program nurtures creativity, abstract thinking, and presentation skills. Classes accommodate students of every ability level, from beginners to burgeoning pros, encouraging them to find their creative outlets. Students can choose from a varied palette of music, art, dance, and drama classes. Our music program, which began when the school was founded in 1924, includes instrumental and choral music. Visual arts students can choose from drawing, painting, two- and threedimensional design, computer design, and architecture. For thespians, our grades 6-9 and 10-12 drama clubs produce multiple productions every year. Students interested in dance can learn a variety of dance styles. The arts at Mount Saint Charles extend beyond stage and studio. Teachers incorporate arts into interdisciplinary lessons on cultural awareness, heritage, and diversity. Our students are always encouraged to share their creative gifts with the community through our music ministry outreach. Our wildly popular summer Fine Arts Camp offers everything from music to video game design. The Fine Arts Department was named a Creative Ticket School of Excellence, a distinction sponsored by the Kennedy Center Alliance for Education Network and the Rhode Island Alliance for Arts Education. The program recognizes schools that have done an outstanding job of making the arts essential to their students’ educations.

KNOWN, VALUED &
TREASURED Through programs ranging from college admissions counseling to managing stress and anxiety, the Mount Saint Charles school counseling staff support the social, emotional, and academic growth of all students, making sure they are each known, valued, and treasured. Every counselor’s goal is to help our students become the best possible versions of themselves - to identify their talents and passions and follow them by developing the skills they need to reach their goals. Every generation of students has its challenges. The Mount Saint Charles school counseling program is designed to meet issues facing today’s students, from omnipresent social media to the rapidly rising cost of college and the pressure to consider career paths at ever-younger ages. Beginning in 6th grade, counselors talk with students about their interests, their goals, and their feelings. Continuing that work each year that a child is at Mount, the counseling staff will have graduates ready to begin their postsecondary journey as well as being informed, healthy leaders, and advocates. Mount’s school counseling staff takes a proactive, 14

personalized approach that has them in the classrooms and in the hallways, always visible and approachable. With caseloads well below industry standards, counselors have time to build personal ties with students in and out of the classroom. Counselors run programs in classrooms and the school counseling center, which provides rooms for meetings, classes, small group and individual counseling, and college admissions visits. There is also a drop-in space where students can take quiet time if they’re feeling stressed. Counselors work closely with teachers, students, and families to create lessons and lead conversations on topics such as study skills, conflict resolution, and stress management. With college as the goal for 99 percent of Mount students, the counseling staff offers a steady stream of classes and workshops designed to help students get into the schools of their choice. All of our counselors earn College Admissions Specialist certifications from the American School Counselor Association. Certification qualifies them to teach a college readiness curriculum that includes study, application/essay writing, and financial planning skills to college-bound students.
