Human Resource Management: What Is It All About Human Resource Management is of high significance to any organization. It is the duty of this department to ensure that the best people are selected for the company and the maximum utilization of the strengths of these people is effectively done. Also, it looks after the employee welfare and makes sure that the employee relations are positively maintained. There are many functions that this department of any organization fulfills. 1. Employee Selection: An HR plays a very important role in the appointment of any employee in a firm. He has to ensure that the right candidate is selected for the required position. This is a very crucial decision and affects the company’s operation and functioning. 2. Performance Management: This department conducts performance appraisals and performance reviews by understanding the key performance areas of the employees. This is discussed with the employee’s department head and then evaluations are conducted to know how each of the employees is performing for the company. A feedback is then given to the employee on the basis of their assessment. 3. Development and Training: Training the employee towards his or her functions and roles is one vital role of this department. It is of high importance that the employee is educated about his or her responsibilities. The employee needs to be giving education on the work process, the rules and regulations of the company and about the general working atmosphere of the firm. Development of the employee is related to the improvement in the skills and knowledge of the employee. 4. Induction: A new employee needs to be introduced to the firm as a whole. Basic knowledge about the company needs to be imparted. The employee also needs to understand how the company functions. Right from small details like the work timings, the dress code to the company policies needs to be notified to the employee. 5. Salary Fixation: The employee’s salary is discussed generally between the department head, the HR and the employee. This department has to ensure that the employee is paid the correct remuneration as per the competency, caliber and experience of the particular employee. 6. Internal Relationships Management: This is a crucial task that needs to be handled in a careful manner. This department needs to ensure that the employees’ internal relationships are smooth. There is bound


to be some kind of friction in every firm but it needs to be handled in a manner that will ensure that the working atmosphere remains pleasant. Also, it is important for a firm to have a good aura as the employees need to feel motivated to work and have a positive mindset when they enter the workplace.
