Remodelling and the 5 Costly Mistakes A lot of people are known to take advantage of home remodelling so as to add to their home value. They more often than not put up the property on market very quickly and at a pretty high price hoping their remodelling brings them more money. They sure can earn more than what they spend provided they avoid a few things. Wondering what? Well, enlighten yourself with the points given below and help others too. 1. Hiring the wrong contractor: Hiring the wrong contractor is the most costly mistake you may make when remodelling your home. This can make life miserable and disappoint you with every decision you make henceforth. Thus, it is extremely vital that you look into a few contractors before signing up with one. He may seem capable, but have you checked his profile? Seen his references and the work he’s done so far? Do people have complaints against him, etc? If you don’t find yourself very comfortable or the opinions don’t sound too right, move on to the next one. 2. Saying a yes at the lowest bid: Just because you found a bid that sounds great doesn’t mean it is the best one. Get a minimum of three bids, and then choose which one works out the best, barring the lowest one. You will be tempted to hire a contractor who can do the work really cheap, but don’t. You may not get quality workmanship. Make sure to do your research and not invite trouble in. 3. Forgetting to take a written contract: Things said verbally may not stand true the next day. What will you do then? Therefore, every detail that has been discussed about the project should be incorporated in a written contract. Do this right from the beginning and make sure you continue to do so

right until the end. You will have to note down every little detail from the brand of fixtures to the paint. Be as precise as possible, you will thank yourself later. 4. Not setting up a budget: A budget is a sum of money allocated for a particular purpose. Why wouldn’t you want to fix up a certain amount for your home relocation? I know it is highly enticing to get the most recent and most modern materials that are available in the market, but then will it be worth all the effort? They may be out of fashion even before you know it. Besides, can you afford them? 5. Being in competition with the neighbourhood: The last thing you want to do is out build the neighbourhood you live in. You don’t mind spending a few extra thousands, but then what if the apartment doesn’t get the recognition it needs? Thus, stay in your budget and follow the above tips and you will be good to go!
