“Have you heard of the four spiritual laws?” This question radically changed my life after a fellow student shared with me the Four Spiritual Laws booklet in October 1978. Thus, began my life-changing journey with Philippine Campus Crusade for Christ an almost four decade journey of growth—as a Christian, a leader, a husband and a father. “Come Help Change the World!” “Changed Life Equals Changed Society.” “Kampus Ngayon, Bayan Bukas!” “Explo 85.” “New Life 2000.” “Operation Jabez.” “Campus LTI’s.” More than the above slogans and big events, what impacted my life were the changed lives of men and women whom I met and worked with through the years. They’ve inspired me to dedicate my life to help fulfill the Great Commission. I praise the Lord for all these men and women who pioneered, developed and expanded the ministry of PCCC. Their hard work, dedication and sacrifices contributed to what PCCC is today. From just two campuses in 1965—University of Manila and UP Diliman—PCCC has grown into ministries in more than 250 college and high school campuses, and in different sectors of society (government, business, education, media, sports and entertainment, family and church) spread out in 13 regions and at least 50 key municipalities and cities. CHANGED TO CHANGE—theme of our 50th anniversary celebration this year— reminds you and me that at the heart of our mission and vision is the love of God. His love has radically CHANGED us. the long list of Christians whose lives have forever been changed through the ministry of Philippine Campus Crusade for Christ. If you have not thanked and praised God for PCCC for quite some time now and for how God used PCCC to impact your life, I invite you to pause and do just that. Fifty years ago, this movement was born to touch and change lives, with its ripple effect on more and more Filipinos and the rest of the world. It excites but humbles me as well, to realize that God in His goodness, grace and sovereignty has given us the privilege to reach probably up to a million Filipinos through evangelism, discipleship, trainings and conferences these past 50 years.
Let us humble ourselves before Him and pray: “Lord, bless the next 50 years. Use these men and women who have been CHANGED TO CHANGE more lives for your glory.” “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3: 20-21).

Our Cebu staff, Valerimae Tendero, met Joanah at the school’s first General Assembly for school year 2014-2015. The gospel was presented in that assembly.

Just this 2015, CCC has been recognized as one of the official student organizations in Velez College. The students’ daily prayer times have drawn more Joanahs to Jesus. The general assemblies now serve as venues for freshmen to grow in their faith and realize that college life is not just about academics. Student leaders have launched a blog site where anyone may share their own experiences of college life and how Christ has impacted their lives. God is continually at work among the campuses. A lot of choices bombard our generation. We have limitless access to just about anything. The information age has so reduced our world to a place where people are endlessly glued to the computer, oblivious to the realities around them. We’re in the Internet Age. The internet technology has improved our world many times over. Let’s take, for example, Christians seriously taking their role in the Great Commission. Where missionaries are denied access elsewhere in the globe, the internet has become the alternative. Sharing the gospel in 24 different time zones around the globe is possible with just a laptop and internet connection. Why not go then where the people are? Where Millions are online 24/7. Why not talk to them where barriers no longer exist, where threats of persecution or of being killed for one’s faith is almost nil. The Digital Day of Outreach (DDO) is one of CCC‘s strategies to share the gospel to nations in 24 different time zones. Using “GodChat,” one can easily talk to someone about Jesus. Sharing the gospel online is easier,

with less pressure compared to a one-on-one conversation with a potential believer. The DDO has been successfully used in the Philippines. According to a Globe Index research, Filipinos are digitally active, spending an average of 4.5 hours daily in social media alone. In June 2014, the first ever DDO was held at the PCCC Center for Evangelism & Discipleship in Quezon City where around 120 people gathered. Most of them were students. That was only the beginning. It was repeated many times throughout the year and re-echoed to those in different provinces. Some where held in churches. One was in a TV network and another in a seminary with pastors, church members and student leaders. Many asked the local CCC to help set up their own DDO. Malaysia and the Fiji Islands caught the DDO fever, hosting their own version of Digital Day of Outreach. One mega-church in the Philippines, Greenhills Christian Fellowship, partnering with PCCC, hosted a DDO in October 2014. Participating members experienced firsthand people coming to Christ after watching the film “Falling

Plates”. The following week the same people saw those whom they chatted with attend the church Discipleship Group. Amazing indeed that those who came online took a further step. Pastor Clem Guillermo, pastor and popular radio host, heard about DDO and adopted the GodChat strategy for his church. They’re on their way to their second DDO after seeing many come to Christ in the first. Simple e-conversations indeed open doors for people—otherwise unreachable through other means—to come to Christ. We have also seen that this simple yet effective strategy has brought different churches, organizations and local ministries as partners—using the simple tool GodChat—to reach different sectors of society. The Internet age is here to stay. We might as well use it to point people to Christ.

“We have seen parents showing eagerness in learning God’s design for families. They are growing in their obedience to the Lord, one step at a time,” one of our FLM staff shared enthusiastically.
I want my children to love their parents, to be responsible in their decision-making, and without any doubt trust God with all their hearts. I also want to see them have good families of their own.
The most recent learning application for the parents was to write a letter of affirmation to their children—which included asking for their kids’ forgiveness. It was something most had never done in their lives. The room grew quiet as they began writing. Soon enough it became a room-full of aching hearts slowly being relieved of the burden of unspoken words. Some quietly shed tears.
Grace Ferrer shared these words during the “Moving Up Day” (February 7, 2015). She’s one of the 25 mothers among the first batch of “student- parents” who finished the Pamana Module, Level 1. Pamana is a parenting program developed by the Family Life Ministry (FLM) of CCC which started a ministry in Fairview Elementary School. Quite a number of students in this school are from urban poor communities and under the government’s “Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program” (4Ps). Grace brought three of her friends—young moms like her—to enroll as well. With the FLM team taking baby steps at a time, the Pamana program module slowly restored broken families by pointing them to Jesus. Four classes met every Thursday, with 44 mothers attending weekly.

The more challenging part was giving and reading these letters to their children. It had to take a lot of love and humility for the parents to do these. God granted these mothers a breakthrough in their relationships with their children as prayers intensified toward the weekend. And they feasted on God’s answers to prayers the next time they met. The FLM staff continue to stand in prayer with those who have yet to take the courageous step of giving their letters to their children for the healing process to start. God is gracious. Busuanga Island, Palawan, was one of the places chosen to host our Operation Jabez team from Manila this summer. This beautiful island sits halfway between Mindoro and Palawan islands. After a 14-hour boat ride from Manila, the group reached Coron; they met their host church in Barangay Salvacion, Busuanga after another two-hour bus ride. This was the place where one student mover studying in Manila hosted the OJ team of ten, and where locals were trained on evangelism and discipleship. This was also where they met and trained Gina. Her young life will never be the same again after her encounter with the team. Gina comes from one of Busuanga’s remotest outskirts. Its roads are still unpaved. Transportation is scarce. Progress still has to reach the area. Gina walks several hours to reach places. But none of these has stopped this dedicated high school student from attending the team’s one week OJ Busuanga training. Gina attended all the training sessions and ministry events: house to house witnessing and Jesus Film showings.

Gina remembered that as early as when she was in grade five, she tagged along with church members to visit barangays. Her OJ team training honed her skills to share Christ more effectively and help new believers grow in their faith. Gina recently went to Manila with Abi, her disciple and mentor, and hosted the OJ Team Busuanga. With some OJ Busuanga team members, Abi brought Gina to experience some “firsts in life”: setting foot on Intramuros and sharing the gospel inside an Intramuros campus! She reveled in the whole experience! Gina is excited to start a campus ministry in her own school this June. God often uses the most unlikely candidate to carry out His plan.

Cebu City (Visayas central region) is the oldest city in the Philippines. The country’s second most populous metropolis after Metro Manila is also known as the “Queen City of the South.” It too has the longest tradition of Roman Catholicism, the predominant religion practiced by 90% of its population. This was the biggest challenge faced by Campus Crusade for Christ’s Leader-Led Movement (LLM) in this thriving urban center. But the seeds of change were planted in Cebu holy week this year. In a collaborative effort to reach the region’s students, faculty, professionals, business people, families and communties, different PCCC ministries from Manila and Central Visayas held collaborative ministry activities in Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, Mandaue and Bogo. PCCC partnered with several churches to hold simultaneous evangelistic events, training and medical outreaches. PCCC LLM Staff Mervin Besin knew that OJ Cebu 2015 was God’s answer to a longheld prayer—that the gospel may be proclaimed in the area starting with a group of bank officials with whom she held regular discipleship sessions. May 25, ARP was awarded the prestigious WHO Sasakawa Health Award in Switzerland.

CEBU OUTLOOK An evangelistic career talk by Rex Resurreccion, who flew all the way from Manila, shattered the indifference of some bank personnel invited by a manager in Mervin’s discipleship group. Attending the event were the bank’s area manager, a number of managers from other branches and some tellers. Two tellers approached Mervin afterwards. They expressed interest on joining which can teach them more about Christ. They were among those who prayed to receive Christ when Rex invited them to do so. Mervin brought along two ladies in her mentoring group who are currently discipling key individuals in the government sector. She asked them to follow up those who would commit their lives to Jesus after that evangelistic event.

She has been encouraged by their eagerness in growing deeper in their newfound faith. The OJ Cebu 2015 collaborative efforts held 19 evangelistic career talks in various companies, discipleship trainings in three churches, one CrossRoads* seminar, eight Family Life seminars and two community medical and dental outreaches. The unity of Christian community made it possible to share the gospel with 2,725 persons—1,520 of whom indicated they prayed to receive Christ. The effort also resulted in 113 people being trained on how to reach their own workplaces for Christ, plus 1065 people receiving medical services in Bogo City. “This is who we really are. We love peace and we love each other.” Doctor J, our host told me. It was my first time to visit Mindanao. The first thing I noticed was the heat. This was also our team’s first exposure to Muslim culture; so we enjoyed the novelty of the experience. Assigned to a particular household, our goal was to connect and build relationships with the locals—and eventually share Jesus with them. We began by memorizing local greetings, shopping for our meals at the local market and interacting with those who came our way. I prayed for an opportunity to have a spiritual conversation with Doctor J, our host. Doctor J holds a PhD and teaches Islamic studies in a nearby university.
stay. Electricity got cut that night. Left with nothing to do, we all piled out the front porch of her house. What followed was a long, thought-provoking spiritual conversation regarding Islam and Christianity. The experience left us reeling with the realization that we need to hurdle a great barrier to reach the Muslim. It seems that every Muslim—even if they’re not as academically trained as Doctor J—has been indoctrinated deeply since childhood. No wonder it’s often been said that a Muslim must be exposed many times to the gospel before considering Christianity. But we were able to see beyond the veil. Not completely, not entirely—just a peek. But that peek shattered most of our misconceptions about Muslims.
It would be tricky to bring up spirituality in a conversation with Doctor J, I thought. She knew that our team was there simply for cultural exposure.
This visit made me realize that most Muslims are peaceful. We experienced it first-hand. Still, we canot discount the fact that they could interpret Islamic teachings differently. This makes it all the more urgent and important for Christians to pray for and reach out to them.
But as I learned later, Muslims, especially someone as devout as Doctor J, are prone to discussing spirituality.
We hope to return—someday. Meanwhile, we trust that the seeds we planted will take root and grow.

Global Church Movement Breakthrough Pastor Jose Dasco first got exposed to the Campus Crusade for Christ movement at the Explo ‘85 event. Thus began his partnership with PCCC. When PCCC expanded its ministry to Bicol in 1990, he joined the team as a Jesus Film worker. He then pioneered in 1994 a local church with three families in Daraga, Albay. His ten-year stint as a Jesus Film worker helped align the church he planted with PCCC’s Win-Build-Send strategy for church growth, mentoring leaders to plant new churches. He never stopped dreaming that church-planting would multiply in his area. When Typhoon “Reming” hit Albay, Bicol, in 2006, many of his church members were dispersed and scattered to far-flung relocation areas. PCCC extended God’s love to the typhoon victims, including some of Ptr. Dasco’s church members, through relief goods distribution and evangelistic efforts. The breakthrough began when new churches sprang out through these dispersed families and the evangelistic activities in various relocation areas. Six years later in 2012, PCCC’s Global Church Movement (GCM) was born and reconnected with Ptr. Dasco for church mobilization training. This time, he had

six leaders committing to the Training for Trainers (T4T) strategy for Church Planting Movement. Ptr. Dasco took a step further when he encouraged all the youth in his church to get involved with PCCC in their campuses. During the Church Planting Mobilization Summit (May 21-22), Jomari Espartinez*, one of the youth in Ptr. Dasco’s church shared: “ I stand before you by the grace of God as one of the fruits of Ptr. Dasco’s hard work and his commitment in helping fulfil the Great Commission. In my involvement with PCCC and Pastor Dasco’s mentorship, I saw the rapid growth of our youth group. Two years of faithfully serving God using the T4T* principles produced almost 80 young people baptized; and the Christ’s Ambassadors Church (CAC) was born. Our desire? Every member a multiplier** joining the Church Planting Movement force. I am honored to be part of the new breed of young church planters.” Ptr. Dasco is just one of the many success stories on partnership between churches and PCCC in the past 50 years. Through his ministry, 12 churches have been planted since 2006 in Bicol—the fruits of his faith demonstrated through his diligence. GCM dreams of having more partners like him in
the next 50 years and beyond. The Global Church Movement (GCM) envisions a multiplying church for every 1,000 people becoming true Christ followers in every neighborhood, village, and virtual community—each church where every member is a multiplier. Globally, GCM trusts God for at least 5M multiplying churches and faith communities by 2020; with GCM Philippines having launched 7,000 multiplying churches by then.
