Fast X
IN CINEMAS 19 MAY
Director Louis Leterrier / Starring
Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, Jason Statham, Rita Moreno / Genre Action, Thriller
Just when you thought the Fast & Furious franchise couldn’t get any more ambitious with its car-based action, F9 launched Dominic Toretto’s crew out of this world… literally!
Fast X, however, the first of an epic two-part finale, brings them crashing back to the tarmac where they’ll face their most dangerous threat yet: Jason Momoa’s Dante.
Emerging from the rubble of Fast Five’s mind-blowing bridge battle, the son of drug lord Hernan Reyes is hell bent on getting revenge for his father’s death.
Of course, retconning past events in this way is a well driven track for the Fast & Furious films, but tying Fast X to one of the franchise’s best-loved entries proves there’s still plenty of gas in the tank.
D4NT3
Briefly hanging up his hero suit for a terrific turn as a bad guy, the Aquaman star joins the Fast family as a villain he describes as “sadistic, androgynous, and a bit of a peacock.” It’s clear, there’s more to fear than muscle.
Vin Diesel and the rest of the beloved crew – including the late Paul Walker, who will feature via flashback – return alongside John Cena, Helen Mirren, Jason Statham, Charlize Theron, and more franchise favourites, with some exciting new additions on board, too.
The end of the road might be in sight, but things are anything but slowing down as Dom’s fight to protect his family continues in another exciting instalment. Prepare for a return to death-defying racing, family drama, and thrilling action set pieces rolled into one, Fast X is going full throttle!
Family is at the heart of all things Fast & Furious and now we know more about Dom’s history, his long-lost brother Jakob, and their father’s death, Fast X introduces his grandmother, played by the West Side Story star.
It’s pedal to the metal as Dom and the Fast family are launched onto one last ride when a blast from their notorious past catches up with them. WORDS AARON POTTER

Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny
IN CINEMAS 30 JUNE
Director James Mangold / Starring Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkselsen, John Rhys-Davis, Antonio Banderas / Genre Adventure
Arguably the coolest film character ever, Harrison Ford’s archaeologist adventurer returns in Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny. Plot points are as elusive as the Ark of the Covenant, but all you need to know is… Indy’s back!
Starring alongside Ford, John Rhys-Davis resurfaces as fan-favourite Sallah and Fleabag’s Phoebe WallerBridge debuts as Indy’s companion, Helena. Meanwhile, Mads Mikkelsen carries on collecting franchise roles like Indy collects ancient artefacts; relishing another menacing role as a foe from Indy’s past.
Logan director James Mangold is at the helm of this grand finale and having delivered a perfect send off for Wolverine, fans can rest assured our ageing hero and his legacy are in very capable hands.
In an era of CGI, Mangold, directing under the guidance of executive
producers Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, insists on practical effects wherever possible to ensure this throwback instalment stands up alongside Indy’s most iconic moments. Think the famous boulder run, the collapsing rope bridge, and punching Nazis on top of an in-transit tank, but in even more luscious far-flung locales.
In short, be sure you see Indy’s grand, globe-trotting, whip-cracking adventure on the biggest screen possible; they literally don’t make ‘em like this anymore.

Director Rob Savage / Starring Chris Messina, Sophie Thatcher, David Dastmalchian / Genre Horror, Thriller
Pennywise. Zombie pets. The Overlook Hotel. Stephen King is the mind behind some of cinema’s most nightmare-inducing horrors. Yet, none of these onscreen scares compare to the monster under your bed, the one hiding in your closet, or what’s lurking in every dark corner of your room.
Those childhood frights come to terrifying life as A Quiet Place writing duo Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, Black Swan writer Mark Heyman, and Host director Rob Savage shape one of Stephen King’s scariest short stories into one of the most anticipated horrors of the year.
Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer are in the throes of grief, not only from the recent death of their mother, but also the consequent loss of their psychiatrist father, who’s thrown himself into his work to deal with his pain. Little do they know, the strain on their relationship opens the door to something evil.

But, the nightmare is very real and now, while he’s so consumed by grief, his own children are about to become the latest victims of The Boogeyman.
HELL RAISER
British filmmaker Rob Savage’s remarkable rise to status as a master of horror in the making came at the height of COVID restrictions when he unleashed his chilling debut, Host: a quarantinemade Screenlife scarer that sees a group of friends stuck in lockdown conduct a séance over Zoom and unwittingly invite an evil spirit into their call. BAD TEACHER
Cameron Diaz earns a world’s worst teacher mug as the lazy, manipulative, and downright mean teacher who doesn’t give an F about anything other than herself in a riotously funny comedy co-written by No Hard Feelings director Gene Stupnitsky.
Matthew Broderick and Laura Benanti portray rich, eccentric, and overprotective parents who are about to see their nineteenyear-old son, Percy, leave home for university. They want to be sure he’s ready for everything college life has in store, so they’ve placed a job listing for a young woman to “date” him before he flies the nest. Best of all, the payment is a car!

Movie Maestros Amadeus
Chevalier
IN CINEMAS 9 JUNE
Director Stephen Williams / Starring Kelvin Harrison Jr, Lucy Boynton, Samara Weaving, Minnie Driver / Genre Biography, Drama, History
Following notable supporting performances in such Oscarnominated lyrical spectacles as Joe Wright’s Cyrano and Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, as romantic hero Christian and legendary musician B.B. King respectively, former BAFTA Rising Star-nominee Kelvin Harrison Jr steps into the spotlight to lead a historical biopic based on the incredible life of eighteenth-century French virtuoso Joseph Bologne.
Chevalier is the latest film in the recent trend of biopics to focus on composers – fictional or otherwise. Critics sang the praises for Andrew Garfield’s tragic turn as Jonathan Larson in Tick, Tick… Boom!, while Cate Blanchett received even more rapturous acclaim for her titular performance in Tár.
There’s even early buzz for Bradley Cooper’s forthcoming Maestro, in which he directs and stars in the story of Leonard Bernstein, of West Side Story fame.
There’s similarly high hopes for Harrison Jr’s star turn in this true story of an African slave and French plantation owner’s illegitimate son and his remarkable rise to the heights of French society. Chevalier follows Bologne’s struggles throughout his life; be it music, prejudice, and even romance as he finds himself caught between allegiances to Lucy Boynton’s Marie Antoinette and Samara Weaving’s Marie-Josephine.
There’s more to being a musical prodigy than simply talent, as documented by this powerful story that’s sure to strike a chord.
Tom Hulce portrays the iconic Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Miloš Forman’s epic biopic that’s primarily told from the viewpoint of a lesser-known composer. Despite its name, F. Murray Abraham steals the show as the equally good, but less lauded Antonio Salieri.
Whiplash
Damien Chazelle makes a storming debut directing a story about a brighteyed student’s journey to perfecting his instrument and the sacrifices he must make to be the best. J.K. Simmons is more menace than mentor as his ruthless instructor, Fletcher.
Tár
Part fictious biopic and part psychological drama, Cate Blanchett owns the screen as the first female chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic, Lydia Tár. However, it’s what goes on away from the music that’s truly disturbing.
From slave’s son to musical maestro, witness the unexpected rise of France’s most celebrated violinist virtuoso in the biopic that tells the untold true story of a musical genius. WORDS AARON POTTER

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
IN CINEMAS 2 JUNE
Directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, Justin K Thompson / Starring Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Oscar Isaac / Genre Animation, Adventure, Sci-Fi
As a young adult, it’s tough working out where you belong in the world, let alone the expansive Multiverse. And that’s right where we find our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man in one of the most must-see superhero films of the year, back in Brooklyn and contemplating his role before being whisked back into the Spider-Verse. While the arachnid adventurers from all over the Spider-Verse got on like a house on fire first time around, things are less acrimonious on this occasion as Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy receive a less than warm reception from a slew of new Spideys. Let’s hope they can come together before they get taken out for good by a villain with unprecedented power.
Into The Spider-Verse was as Amazing and Spectacular as any Spider-Man film should be and won the whole world over, picking up the Best Animated Feature Film at the Academy Awards on the way to being recognised by many as the finest Spider-Man film to date.
With creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller picking up the pen again, Oscar Isaac and Daniel Kaluuya adding their voices to an already enticing cast, and the promise of more innovative animation styles, Spidey senses are suggesting that this sequel is filling its successor’s sizeable shoes, and then some.
Alongside Miles Morales, Jake Johnson’s middle-aged Peter B. Parker returns and is joined by Oscar Isaac’s snarky Spider-Man 2099, a self-made mutant Spidey who appears in the credit sting of the last adventure. Add Daniel Kaluuya’s Spider-Punk, complete with electric guitar, and this sequel is going to get loud!
Spider-Women
The motorbike-riding SpiderWoman makes her big onscreen debut and is voiced by Issa Rae. Also, Hailee Steinfeld’s fan-fave Ghost Spider makes her return as she helps Miles in the Multiverse.
Spider-What?
The first film introduces Spider-Ham, but things gets much weirder the further you venture Across The SpiderVerse. Look out, here comes Werewolf Spider-Man, SpiderCop, and Bombastic Bagman (Spidey with a paper bag on his head).
