Movin’... with the times
STOCKTON HEATH FESTIVAL 2009
Following the success of the first ever Stockton Heath Festival of performance art and culture, the jam-packed event is back in July for a second year with an even bigger and better events programme. Running from Thursday 9 July until Sunday 12 July, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained. This year the focal points on the ‘Festival Field’ are three large, eye-catching tepee tents. If you’re looking for an event for all the family to enjoy, the opening night sees the touring theatre group, Oddsocks, performing their humorous take on Richard III in the open air, just outside of the tepees, with the audience sheltered underneath. The internationally renowned Presto Puppet Theatre are back performing Rumpelstiltskin with their wonderful half life-sized puppets bringing the story to life! Other headline acts include the fabulous Pagoda Chinese Youth Orchestra, Salsa Pa Gozar Latin American music, stand-up comedy by the Frog and Bucket, a big band night by Dr Jazz and the Cheshire Cats, Warrington Male Voice Choir, Henry’s Crisis, Cheshire Chord Company and CODYS – it’s lining up to be an amazing weekend! 6

The weekend is also packed full of free events and things to see, such as a farmer’s barbeque and an open-air cinema on Saturday night (this year’s film is Mamma Mia), dancing for the little ones with Jo Jingles, storytelling, canal boat trips, arts and crafts markets, a farmer’s market, an allotment open day, a ‘spot the Teddy Bear’ competition, art exhibitions, a photographic competition, toy railway exhibitions and the village scarecrows will be back making an appearance too. The weekend is run entirely by local volunteers, with the support of local businesses. This year the festival is sponsored by MC2 Hair Design, Forshaw Davies Ridgeway solicitors, Grassroots Grants, Warrington Borough Council and the Parish Councils of Stockton Heath and Appleton.
