FOSTER CARE FORTNIGHT IS A SUCCESS FOR LOCAL AGENCY

CONGRATULATIONS!

Foster Care Fortnight, the national campaign co-ordinated by the Fostering Network, took place in May with the focus being on raising awareness of those children without families, and highlighting the shortage of 10,000 foster parents in the UK. Park Foster Care, a local independent agency set up in 2004, was actively involved in Foster Care Fortnight. Mike Miltiadous, Park Foster Care’s Service Manager, comments: “Although this is a difficult time for all those involved in the protection of vulnerable children, the public has responded magnificently this year and we have had a record number of enquiries about fostering”. More foster carers are needed in Warrington and across the whole of the UK to provide children with safe and caring homes while they are unable to live with their own families, and a diverse range of people with the right skills and qualities are required to meet the needs of those children in care. Park Foster Care has excellent relationships with local authorities placing children with their carers and appears on the Ofsted Outstanding Providers list 2007/08. To all those who took part in the Manchester to Liverpool charity bike ride – a big congratulations! We were graced with glorious weather, making the stunning scenery along the way even more picturesque than usual and the ride that little bit more taxing, so well done to everyone who completed the challenge! In all, more than 1500 riders took part in the 38-mile ride, making it one of the biggest charity bike rides Warrington has seen streaming through the town. Our Movin’ fundraisers were representing the Movin’ team wearing their free t-shirts. And a big pat on the back goes to Pete Stott from Lymm who had only recently celebrated his 60th birthday, and completed the ride within 3 hours. Well done, Pete! And he’s already gearing up for the even bigger challenge of the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride – over 60 miles! If you’d like to join Pete and the Movin’ team for this next charity bike ride, simply send an email to info@movinmagazine.com

A great day was had by all this year, and an admirable £290 was raised for the Mines Advisory Group, St Rocco’s Hospice and Marie Curie Cancer Research.
