MOWER COUNTY FAIR TALENT CONTEST

One of the many popular attractions of our Mower County Fair is the Talent Contest. People who love to entertain will be on stage on Saturday, August 13 at 1:00 p.m. at the Godfather’s Fair Square. They will vie for prize money and the opportunity to go on to the Minnesota State Fair. Judges for this year’s contest are both from the entertainment field. Denny Charnecki of Austin is a professional guitarist and has his own band-The DC Drifters. He has played with the Dottie West Show of Grand Ole Opry fame and many other professional bands so we feel he is well qualified to judge the entertainment value of a contestant. Denny has won the Lifetime Achievement Award twice from the Midwest Country Hall of Fame. Joining him on the judge’s bench will be Ann Hemann from Austin. Ann plays keyboard and sings with the DC Drifters. She has experience playing with several professional groups such as the Diamonds and The Coasters. Ann graduated from U of North Iowa, Cedar Falls, is the mother of two, and self-employed. Both of our judges are looking forward to our upcoming contest. They love to entertain. As always there are three divisions-Contestants up to age 12 should enter in the Pre-Teen, ages 13-19 should enter in the Teen section and any who do not fit in the first two divisions enter into the open division. Three winners are chosen from each division. First place winners from each division go on to perform at the Minnesota State Fair. Prize money on the county level is the same in each division-$40.00 for first place, $30.00 for second place, and $20.00 for third place. A sound system is provided by the fair. This is a valuable asset to anyone who likes to entertain. Contestants can find entry forms in the fairbook which has been placed in the libraries and banks around the county or online at www.mowercountyfair.com. There is a $10.00 entry fee for each act. The contest is open to any person living in Mower County. Deadline for entries will be August 11, 2011.
