Castaway® cups are manufactured in our own facilities right here in Australia. By investing in local manufacturing, we not only support our local economy, but we also reduce transportation to a local level. All our facilities are HACCP certified ensuring strict control of food safety and product quality.

Sustainably sourced paper

Castaway® cups are made with paper sourced from certified managed plantation forests. Paper is both renewable and recyclable, contributing to a circular economy where materials can be reused to produce new products.

Water based inks

We only use water-based inks for printing Castaway® cups, which are free from harmful toxic chemicals, and are made from naturally occurring substances.

CUP COMPARISON

Recyclable

Castaway® cups are accepted for recycling by many councils throughout Australia. Our new Aqueous Cups have a waterbased coating and are recyclable where facilities exist.

Product innovation

We have developed an aqueous coated cup – making it easier to recover valuable resources that might otherwise end up in landfill. Turn to page 12 for more on our aqueous coated paper coffee cups.

Artwork

Our in-house graphic designers can either convert or enter your artwork onto our template for approval. Please ensure that the design is finalised prior to submitting your artwork to us. This means all the elements in your concept such as any text, logos, etc. have all been confirmed. We have an in-house graphic designer who will fit it into our template, however any changes to the design after this has been done may incur extra charges.

Our Enviroboard range combines sustainable design with exceptional performance, using pulp that comes from sugar cane fibres (bagasse) – one of the world’s most abundant annually renewable resources. Sugarcane bagasse is the dry residue left after sugar cane fibre has been pressed for juice. Why do EcoSmart® products use recycled content?

Castaway® is committed towards creating a circular economy – enabling more packaging to either remain in loops, or have the best possible opportunity to be recycled. The growing challenge of plastic in the environment has stressed the urgency to find solutions to reduce, reuse, recycle and recover ‘postconsumer’ plastic waste.

A more circular use of materials means lower costs and less waste. Making products using recycled contents often uses much less energy than producing the same products from raw or virgin materials. It means new sources of value for our customers and consumers, better risk management of raw materials, and improved approaches to the supply chain.

What’s the difference between “recycled” and “recyclable”?

Recycled means the container already has contents from previous used material. In other words, recycled content means that the new product you’re using was made (at least in part) from content that has been recycled.

A product labelled as recyclable can go into the recycling bin and be re-processed into new products. EcoSmart® containers are both recycled and recyclable – the best of both worlds.

Is recycling easy?

Recycling is easy once you know how to. Please empty, and rinse all containers – make sure to remove any residual food or product waste before recycling to prevent cross-contamination. Most local councils have a kerbside collection of recyclables that involve placing your recyclables out on the footpath for collection on a set day – just like general waste collection. Your yellow bin is for items that can be recycled.

What plastic can I recycle?

Different types of plastic must generally be kept separate for recycling. The Plastics industry Association has introduced a voluntary system of coding to help recyclers and the public identify the type of plastic. A number in a triangle identifies the plastic. The two types of plastic most commonly recycled are P.E.T., and HDPE (high density polyethylene). Other types of plastic are not generally recycled in Australia.

The hemmed edge is where the lip of the container folds out back onto itself to help protect the user from sharp edges.

Perforated containers allow the contents to breathe at warm or hot temperatures keeping your food crisp when needed.

Vertical Flange

The vertical flange provides straight edges that make the container suitable for use with a lid. The interrupted curl allows the corners of the container to be folded, locking the lid in place.

Standard Paper

Standard paper is uncoated or treated, making it a cost-effective option for packaging food that is pre-wrapped or does not require high liquid or moisture resistance to serve and carry. Standard paper bags are great for serving takeaway pastries, sandwiches, rolls, muffins, cookies and more. You can also use these bags to cover Castaway® RediServe food trays.

Glassine Paper

Greaseproof Paper

Glassine offers a very smooth, thin paper with a translucent appearance that allows food contents to remain visible. With liquid and moisture resistance, you can use glassine paper bags for chips, pies, hot dogs and various other foods cooked in oil.

Greaseproof paper is impermeable to oil and grease, preventing the paper from becoming soggy or weak.

Greaseproof paper is the ideal choice for takeaway food cooked in oil, such as chips, sausage rolls, pies and more. This type of paper also allows the food to breathe, steaming off excess moisture to keep food fresh.

Foil-lined Paper

Foil lined paper provides excellent resistance to liquids, grease and moisture. The inner foil lining has excellent heat retention properties making it ideal for packaging and serving kebabs, souvlaki, yiros and hot chicken.

COMPARE SIZES AND TYPES

Star Seal

Star seal bags have greater vertical strength because the underside of the bag is gathered, folded and sealed at the centre of the base of the bag.

Choose a star seal bag for:

l Preventing leaks – sealed at the centre, the bag is less likely to leak through a seam

l Heavy duty applications – the bag will hold more weight without breaking

l Easy removal – the star seal gives the bag a more rounded shape when full, making it easier to remove from the garbage bin.

Flat Seal

A flat seal is where the seal has been applied to run from one side to the other side of the bag. The flat design of the bags mean that they do not fit as well to the shape of most garbage bins.

Choose a flat seal bag for:

l Reducing costs – flat seal bags maximise volume capacity

l Light duty applications – flat seals are not as strong as star seals or gusseted seals.

Gusset Seal

A gusset seal bag is similar to a flat seal but with both sides tucked in to make a gusset.

Choose a gusset seal bag for:

l Maximising volume capacity –the extra width provided by the gusset allows more garbage to fit in the bag

l Wheelie bins – the gusset seal gives the bag a more rectangular or square shape, making it a good fit for wheelie bins.
