Resilient City Framework B A I E TA N : H E A R T O F G U A N G - F O

Raised Land For Redevelopment Area Spoils from excavating underground parking garages will be used to raise the land to a minimum elevation of 8.3m, which is above the projected sea level rise influenced 200–year food stage.

BAIETAN 广州 GUANGZHOU

东莞 DONGWAN 佛山 FOSHAN

The project site is subject to annual flooding.

HISTORIC SHORELINE

Interconnected Network Of Canals & Stepped Wetland Levees

Any sealevel rise would amplify the impact of flooding.

All raised land will drain directly into canals and rivers through an expanded network of canals so the hydrologic burden on the remaining low–lying areas is greatly reduced. Levees will protect existing low lying land.

深圳 SHENZHEN 中山 ZHONGSHAN

Resuscitated Riparian Corridors Along the existing waterways of the Huadi River and larger waterways that flow across the Baietan, gentle wetland habitat terraces are established to allow for these lands to naturally refurbish with regional trees, water-loving plants, and wildlife while maintaining the flood control functions. 3

Previous plan promoted sprawling campus development beyond the academic core.

SOM plan proposes future academic development within a compact, walkable 10-min core area.

Existing TRAX transit stations are surrounded by surface parking lots which hinders pedestrian movement.

SOM plan proposes development at transit nodes to create campus gateways and new centers of mixed-use activity.
