Name: Bessie Coleman

Early Life • One of 13 children to Susan and George Coleman. • At 12 Coleman began attending the Missionary Baptist Church. • At 23 Coleman moved to Chicago, where she lived with her brothers and worked as a manicurist. Interesting facts: • In 1922 Bessie became the first African American woman to stage a public flight life in U.S.A • First black woman to earn a pilot’s license • Remains a pioneer of women in the field of aviation. Why my person deserves to be inducted into the Black History Hall Of Fame? My person deserves to be inducted into the Black History Hall Of Fame because she made a change in African American history. She also still remains a pioneer of women in the field of aviation. Her name needs to be known more because people may still not hear about her. We should show our respect and have her remembered!
