Name: Charles Richard Drew Birth Date: June 3, 1904 Death Date: April 1, 1950 Early Life: • Grew up in Washington D.C • Had great athletic talent • Went to Canada for medical school Interesting Facts: • Completed bachelor’s degree • Won a prize in neuroanatomy • Developed a method for processing and preserving blood plasma, or blood without cells I think Charles Richard Drew should be in the Black History Hall of Fame because of what he accomplished. Drew developed a method for processing and preserving blood plasma. He helped during WW2, and was asked to lead a medical effort known as “Blood for Britian”. In 1941 he worked on another blood bank for the American Red Cross. Drew became chief sugern at Freemen’s Hospital and the first African-American examiner for the American Board of Surgery. Drew died at the age of 45 and received a posthumous awards and was even on the US Postal Service’s Great

American stamps. I think he should be on the Black History Hall of Fame because of what he did through out his life even though it was too short. Dr. Drew helped out in causes and found out a way to store blood that is still used today. I think medical technology wouldn’t have advanced faster today if he hadn’t found a way. Dr. Charles Richard Drew is worthy of being up there for the great he did.
