Early Life: - Started making amateur films at age 20 - First student film was Late Hustle in Brooklyn - Graduated from Morehouse College and New York University Film School Interesting Facts: - His thesis film, Joe’s Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads received a Student Academy Award - His first major film, She’s Gotta Have It, grossed of $7 million - His second major film, Do The Right Thing, was nominated for an academy award for Best Original Screenplay in 1989 Why I Think This Person Should Be in The Black History Month Hall of Fame: I personally believe Spike Lee should be in the Hall of Fame because of his success as a director, producer, and actor. He has brought us many great memorable films. He is a master of his craft and I hope he will continue to
make movies as long as he can. He is absolutely deserving of a spot in the Hall of Fame. His work is excellent. Also, a little fun fact, my father was an extra in some of his movies. So, my father would definitely agree with my statement.
