Our shopping and retail culture is rapidly changing, and it starts right from Accra. Malls of Accra gives you a panoramic insight into Ghana’s evolving retail industry. In the month of September 2013, the country was privileged to host the very renowned development economist, Dr Trevor Manuel who delivered the 3rd Global Development Lecture Series on the topic “The Drive for Economic Development and Investment in Africa”. There is a healthy development brewing in Ghana’s real estate industry, and as usual, it starts from Accra. The skyline of Accra is slowly but steadily rising, indicative of the current boom in our construction market, albeit teething challenges. Riding on the wave of this healthy development is our discovery of the year – OREL Ghana, a realtor par excellence. Talk of a new phenomenon in our educational landscape and the DPS International School in Tema stands out in a class of its own, offering holistic and cutting-edge education to the Ghanaian populace.
This maiden edition would be incomplete without putting the spotlight on two of Ghana’s most sensational discoveries: Cwesi Oteng is undoubtedly Ghana’s gospel artiste of the moment; then comes in Fanny Takyiwa Agyare, a young and talented fashion icon who is taking haute couture in Ghana to a new height. “The New Face of Contemporary Ghanaian Gospel Music”
F
rom the depths of the suburbs south of the Sahara lies a quiet yet industrial city known as TEMA and described by some as the “Hustler’s City”.
Just as the psalmist David, a man after God’s own heart, was found in the fields working for his father, we also find a young, anointed and blessed man, called of God from this harbor city, working for his Heavenly Father. His name is Cwesi Oteng. To say this young man is a phenomenon would be an understatement. His rise to fame and stardom has been meteoric and phenomenal, causing a worldwide ripple effect across the International Gospel Music Industry. With powerful hits such as “God Dey Bless”, “Count Your Blessings” and “I Win” under his belt, it is needless to say that this young man has truly come of age, commanding a lot of respect in the world of music. We had the privilege of catching up with this great man of God in his favorite place of rest in Ghana, his home in Tema, for an exclusive interview for BEST IN GHANA magazine. So here you are with an excerpt, the man himself in his own words: “When people ask me, ‘Who is Cwesi Oteng?’ I say well, I’m the voice of this generation, an anointed musician who understands the times. The secret behind my success is the grace of God and being faithful with the small things that God gave me to do in church. Like when God gave me the chance to join the choir as a tenor singer, I gradually

progressed to playing the role of an assistant, then gradually progressed to becoming the main choir director, then gradually progressed to start writing my own songs, then gradually progressed to building my team. It was all a gradual progress of God moving me to where I find myself now. The favor of God makes the difference and you attract that favor by seeking God and following Him and developing that personal relationship with Him. After hearing this young man speak, one thing was established: age and wisdom have nothing in common! Although he is young, he spoke like a very mature man, not to mention the fact that he has 16 years of consistent ministry work to his credit! So we were not surprised when he went on to say that his favorite pastime was reading books and his role model in life was Dag Heward - Mills because, as he put it, “He is a great man of God and he is doing well. With gospel music in Ghana hitting over 10,000 searches a month on Google, it is clear that we have something great to offer the world, and this anointed young man stands at the forefront of the battle. Cwesi Oteng, BEST IN GHANA salutes you. Keep the flag flying high for God and for country and keep those shades on because your future is bright!

n the past few decades, haute couture in Ghana had been the preserve of a few respectable names, the most celebrated of whom is Kofi Ansah. Today a new crop of designers are pushing the frontiers of Ghanaian fashion to a new level that not only appeals to a new generation of trend setters, but also coveys a strong message about contemporary Ghanaian fashion to a wider audience. Best in Ghana magazine is privileged to profile one of the finest discoveries of the moment, Fanny Takyiwa Agyare. Known under the label Fanny Ann Clothing, Fanny is on a mission to create a fashion line inspired by a cross-cultural fusion of tradition and modernity. Her first major public appearance was in October 2012 when she took part in a fashion show dubbed Expressions of Accra, which was put together by Citi FM. This show was to tell a picturesque story of Accra in its past, present, and future through fashion. This was to herald the dawn of a new chapter in Fanny’s world of fashion designing, having spurred the savvy fashion designer on into becoming one of the fashion icons currently sponsoring some contestants of the popular MTN Hit-maker music reality show in Ghana. Let us now take a peep into Fanny’s world of fashion designing.

Just ask 26-year old Fanny Takyiwa Agyare – fashion designer and creative director of FANNY ANN CLOTHING, the brand that is taking the fashion world by storm! Fanny was born in Ghana’s cosmopolitan city of Accra in 1986. From a very young age, she embraced all things artsy and creative. Her mother, a hobbyist dressmaker, encouraged her ambition to be a fashion designer. She gave Fanny her first sewing machine in secondary school and the go-ahead to operate a home-based dressmaking atelier in one corner of her bedroom, while she studied for a Psychology degree at the University of Ghana, Legon. In the ensuing years, a mother’s blessing, encouragement and legacy of quality traditions would lay the foundation for Fanny’s success as a highly competent haute couture designer and dressmaker. In 2007, while in her third year at university, Fanny founded her flagship company by the name Fanny Ann Clothing. Her studio specialized in occasional wear, converging between frisky and bold to serene and mystifying. After graduation, she pursued her dream of carving a name for herself in the fashion industry, having spent two years
In 2011, Fanny co-founded the Hutter Baiden Legacy Studios, an independent family-owned management firm, to oversee the administrative operations of the company while she concentrated on designing and sewing. Later that same year, she introduced bridal wear into her offerings. Today, with her portfolio of over 500 occasional and bridal wear designs in a variety of fabrics and finishes, and her 60+, loyal, satisfied clients, Fanny is poised to celebrate the 6th anniversary of her dream – a business started in the corner of her bedroom where her creations have grown and flourished, never failing to add that extra touch of sophistication and richness to occasions for which they are designed.
Fanny’s secret Fanny Ann Clothing is steadily carving a niche synonymous with top quality in haute couture for the fashionable man and woman. MALLS
Accra A
ccra is fast becoming the shopping capital of West Africa, notwithstanding the strong competition from big brother Nigeria. This is not to say, however, that Ghana’s sprawling capital has come of age in terms of formal retail space; far from it. In contrast, just one mall alone in a much smaller country like the United Arab Emirates would swallow up the totality of Ghana’s formal retail space which is currently hovering in the region of 50,000 sq meters. Spanning over 12 million sq feet (equivalent to 50 football pitches), with a total internal floor area of 5.9 million sq feet (about 2 million sq meters), and a total leasable retail space of 3.8 million sq feet (about 1.2 million sq meters), the Dubai Mall is a mini city within a city, capable of gobbling up the whole of Ghana’s formal retail space forty times and over. Nevertheless, Rome was not built in a day. Accra is steadily but surely coming up. This is on the back of a positive and robust economic performance over the years, underpinned by our new-found wealth, oil. 18
BEST IN GHANA Magazine
Accra has finally woken up from a deep slumber. A new Accra is emerging and bracing itself for a novel consumer and retail culture in Ghana. But whether this seemingly overcrowded city will become the Dubai of West Africa is just a matter of time and political will. Consistent economic growth averaging 8% per annum over the past decade and a serene political climate prevailing in Ghana have given rise to a steady and increasing inflow of direct foreign investment into the country. The purchasing power of the Ghanaian is rising, the middle class is widening and the demand for world class shopping facilities has never been as high as it is now. Real incomes grew by 44% between 2009 and 2011 alone. Ghana also officially joined the ranks of middle income economies on July 1 2011. On another front, a quiet revolution appears to be taking place in the country as thousands of people transition
from the rural economy to a more sophisticated urban economy. According to the report on the 2010 Population and Housing Census of Ghana, for the first time since 1960, more than half of Ghana’s population (50.9%) lives in urban areas. This phenomenon is fuelling the pressure on existing informal retail centers. There is also a clear shift in the shopping culture of the urbanized Ghanaian and this is helping to create a prolific environment for formal retailer business in Ghana. The advent of renowned private equity firm, Actis, and other major equity investors like Delico Properties Development Limited is helping tremendously to reduce the huge deficit in quality world class retail space in Ghana. Though mall retailing is at an infant stage in Ghana, the cosmopolitan city of Accra can be singled out as Ghana’s shopping capital, attracting over 90% of all the international brands and developers of office and retail space. For now, the
balance is heavily skewed in favor of Accra at the expense of other major regional cities like Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale. Another major factor accounting for the steadily growing mall culture in Ghana is the increasing flow of foreigners into the country. A look at the Ghana Civil Aviation statistics between 2010 and 2012 reveals that total arrivals from Southern Africa to Ghana increased from 40, 350 passengers in 2010, to 44, 364 in 2011 and 52, 419 in 2012. The figures from the Middle East show a progression from 69, 687 arrivals in 2010 to 84,246 in 2011 and 98,987 in 2012, while Europe posted 230, 643 in 2010, 260, 193 for 2011, and 269, 724 for 2012. Clearly there is an indication of a positive traffic stream towards Ghana. As Ghana’s emerging oil industry and service sector continue to see growth, such trends are bound to persist. Does it mean therefore that Ghana as a
country needs to push for more shopping malls? The answer can be gleaned from the occupancy ratio of existing malls. A&C Square and Accra Mall, Ghana’s foremost retail addresses can boast of a near 100% occupancy ratio. Then comes in the Marina Mall, a two-storey center and the latest addition to the string of world class retail facilities in Ghana; already, the facility enjoys a 100% occupancy ratio. More projects are underway, some of which include the West Hills Mall, scheduled to open in 2014 , with 27,300 sq meters of gross leasable area; One Airport Square by Actis, a world class development comprising an office centre and a mall, with 2000 sq metres of retail space due to open in 2014; The Octagon, another huge officecum-mall complex situated on a 6500-sq-metre plot in the heart of Accra, also due in 2014 and finally, the Oxford Street Mall in Osu with 5000 sq meters of gross leasable area which became effectively operational in 2013. The competition is
gradually heating up, especially in Accra, with the development of a number of smaller modern retail facilities all over the city. Nonetheless, most retailers and mall developers are maintaining a cautious optimism in a city whose population is in excess of 4 million inhabitants. Accra and for that matter Ghana is ripe and yearning for mega malls. The metropolis of Accra alone has a yawning capacity for more formal retail space considering the existing capacity of about 40,000 sq meters. The caution for city planners and administrators however is to consider the proper integration of these facilities within existing social and public infrastructure like roads and parking lots in order to avoid worsening the already hectic traffic situation in Accra. BEST IN GHANA magazine is privileged to present the malls of Accra in this very maiden edition.

Known originally as the A&C Mall, the first mall in Ghana has now evolved into Accra’s first mixed use centre now known as A&C Square: The 6-acre project comprises shopping, business, restaurants, health and fitness centers, with a car park for over 300 vehicles with well-manicured lawns and gardens. With the assistance of IFC (a member of the World Bank Group), A&C Square is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar expansion of the existing facility to meet the growing demand for more office and retail space. Thanks to IFC’s collaborative effort, a threestorey commercial center is currently coming up within the precincts of the A&C Square in East Legon, Accra.
With this additional expansion works, A&C Square is sending a strong message to industry players that it is not ready to be left out in this lucrative and highly competitive sector of the Ghanaian economy.

su Oxford Street is probably the most popular street in Accra, deriving its name from the renowned Oxford Street in London, U.K. Always bustling and brimming with exuberance, the street commands a certain magnetic effect, drawing crowds of diverse nationalities from all over the cosmopolitan city of Accra. Are you new in Accra? Then your stay in Accra would be incomplete without spending some time to savor the unique atmosphere that Osu Oxford Street has to offer. Whether by night or by day, Osu Oxford Street is the place you can expect a great deal of gratification from whether you have money to spend or you are merely on a sight-seeing adventure.

Situated some three and a half kilometers east of the central business district, Osu Oxford Street is strategically located near key facilities like the Art Centre, the Independence Square, the Osu Christiansburg Castle , the Accra International Conference Centre , Labadi Pleasure Beach, Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Hotel and Government Ministries, among others. It is every tourist’s delight. Due to its highly touristic appeal, when the Afro-Caribbean carnival spirit finally located its way into Ghanaian territory in a big way, Osu Oxford Street could simply not be ignored. Osu Oxford Street offers a tantalizing mix of dining experience thanks to very popular brands like Monsoon, Frankie’s Restaurant, Bella Roma, Dynasty Chinese Restaurant, Papaye Fast Food, Mr. Biggs, Chicken Republic, Chicken Inn, Osu Food Court, Osu Night Matket, KFC, Alechino’s, just to name a few.
When it comes to shopping, one could probably find almost anything from state of the art electronic gadgets to the finest in haute couture, and even the best of groceries. Popular shops like Woodin, and Koala are simply irresistible. With the opening of the new Oxford Street Mall in 2013 with some 5000 square meters of gross leasable space, and anchored by Shoprite, the South African based retail and food company, Osu Oxford Street is living up to its name as the street never to miss for any firsttime visitor to Accra. You can never miss out on the brisk business atmosphere when you drive through Osu Oxford Street. Notorious for its human and vehicular traffic, the street also plays host to some of the finest banking institutions in the country. Barclays Bank is said to be the first bank to have located a branch on this street. Today, we can count not less than eight
banks operating from this bustling street. Banks like Standard Chartered Bank, Fidelity Bank, Amal Bank, Agriculture Development Bank, Ecobank, GT Bank and Merchant Bank are all doing brisk business on Osu Oxford Street. Talk of convenience, allure, variety, and uniqueness, Osu Oxford Street has it all. You will simply be spoilt for choice. From the coziest hotels to the friendliest banks, from the finest restaurants to the cleanest supermarkets, Osu Oxford Street is beckoning to you. The only request
to local authorities and Accra city planners is to consider converting the full stretch of the street into a pedestrian walkway, with ample parking facilities strategically situated at both ends of the street. Re-routing of electricity and telephone lines, with improved underground drainage and waste disposal points at vantage points will greatly improve on the beauty of the street. These proposals if implemented will further enhance the touristic appeal of Osu Oxford street, making it a truly inviting destination in the city of Accra.

The Award 2014
T
he highly competitive nature of today’s global market is a clear wakeup call for emerging markets to re-strategize towards a more meaningful and effective role in the international marketplace. Local standards must necessarily be benchmarked in a consistent and systematic manner against globally acceptable best practices. Our world has become too familiar with state-of-the-art gadgets and hi-tech devices that are churned out yearly with cheeky ease. What this means for us here in Ghana is that, as one of Africa’s emerging markets, we can no longer afford to lag behind our former peers in Asia and the Middle East in such critical areas as brand innovation, cutting-edge customer service, entrepreneurship, skill acquisition, and research. We need not re-invent the wheel to become competitive as an emerging market. For example, in an era of jet speed technology and cyber engineering, one begins to wonder why we should develop our national railway

infrastructure along the lines of an outmoded one-way track system instead of a futuristic hi-tech multi-track system. Who says we should have to start from ground zero in order to attain a higher level of development? Even at a mature age of 56, Ghana can still accelerate her rate of socioeconomic advancement without having to re-invent the wheel if the fundamentals are right. There has always been a lifeline at our disposal, a resilient crash program for economic advancement. Ask the likes of Malaysia, South Korea, and the United Arab emirates who have become shining examples of socio-economic re-engineering almost overnight, and they would be quick to tell you that there is so much information available out there to propel any willing country on the face of the globe from catch-up mode to pacesetter mode irrespective of that country’s present handicap. What has always ruled our world is the deliberate and addictive acquisition and application of relevant information. This is
the real driving force behind brand innovation, cutting edge customer service, skill acquisition, entrepreneurship, and research. There must be a conscious prioritization of all these core drivers in our national developmental agenda if we will do well in our global competitiveness index. BEST IN GHANA magazine seeks to compliment the national effort of institutionalizing these core values by establishing the annual BIG Award. The objective of the BIG Award (Best in Ghana Award) is to promote the culture of excellence in brand innovation, research, entrepreneurship, skill acquisition, and cutting-edge customer service by identifying and celebrating deserving individuals whose footprints in these areas must be projected as shining examples in a country in search of a strong global identity. Modalities for the BIG Award are as follows: 1. The BIG Award will be an annual event pitched on a clearly defined theme to be publicized by Best in Ghana magazine.
2. The general public will be requested to nominate deserving individuals who have distinguished themselves in the defined areas in public or private office. 3. The maiden award which will be held in December 2014 will be in the category of Customer Service. 4. The theme for the maiden award will be BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON IN GHANA. The award accompanying this theme is – BIG Award 2014, Excellence in Customer Service. 5. Persons with the highest number of nominations will be shortlisted and subjected to a final round of public approval for the determination of the winner.
• A plaque with the citation BIG Award 2014 – Excellence in Customer Service • A certificate of recognition in Customer Service Delivery • An automatic induction into the BIG Hall of Fame with fringe benefits Sponsorship of the BIG Award: Individuals, businesses, and institutions wishing to sponsor the BIG Award should request for a sponsorship brochure from: thebigaward@bestinghana.com tel: +233 (0)302973148 All sponsors will receive free advertisement space in BIG magazine plus other juicy benefits.

he general scramble for foreign investment in the emerging economies of the African continent has been growing steadily. Due to the incomparable peace and stability and the strong democratic credentials of the country, foreign investors find Ghana to be one of the attractive investment destinations for healthy returns on their investments. Consequently, it has created a scramble for luxury real estate in prime areas, particularly in Accra, with typical requirements being a secure environment and the fastest exit to the airport and to town. Dr Trevor

3rd Global Development Lecture Series in Accra
I
n spite of its size and rich natural endowment, the continent of Africa has remained largely at the periphery of global economic power play. Majority of African states find themselves marooned in an almost perpetual state of lassitude while the rest of the world sets global agenda. In an increasingly prosperous and technologically advanced world, Africa is still about half a century away from living standards that became basic norm over decades in continents like North America, Europe, and largely Asia. Most African countries are still grappling with the challenge of basic infrastructure in critical areas like transport, health, education, housing, telecommunication, energy, agriculture, just to mention a few. Sound leadership and governance skills also remain to be mastered. That notwithstanding, there is still ample room for Africa to leverage on the wind of globalization for a quantum leap effect in its developmental agenda. But the question still remains whether 40 BEST IN GHANA Magazine
we are ready as a continent to shake off our lethargic posturing and assume a more active role in our quest for a fairer share of global influence. Best in Ghana was privileged to cover the 3rd Global Development Lecture Series under the broad theme “Africa – Emerging Economies and Globalization” which came off on the 12th of September 2013 at the Accra International Conference Center under the aegis of the John A. Kufour Foundation in collaboration with Graphic Communications Group. The lecture was anchored by one of Africa’s most renowned development economists, Dr Trevor Manuel, who is currently an MP in South Africa and a minister in the presidency responsible for the National Planning Commission of South Africa. The perspective of Dr Trevor Manuel who is undoubtedly one of Africa’s most sought-after conference speakers brings to the fore a lot of food for thought. Dr Trevor Manuel,
a mastermind of global developmental issues has fully paid his dues and duly earned his right to speak on the topic “The Drive for Economic Development and Investment Opportunities in Africa”. His delivery sets the tone for African leaders to be pragmatic and ride on the wind of globalization for accelerated growth. Best in Ghana presents to you a few facts on the profile of Dr Trevor Manuel and some nuggets from his delivery.

Excerpts from Dr Trevor Manuel’s Lecture “It is not possible to be an African and not have Ghana close to your heart.” “Our forests contain some of the finest woods to be grown anywhere. Our cash crops include Cocoa, Coffee, Rubber, Tobacco, and Cotton. As for power, which is an important factor in any economic development, Africa contains over 40 per cent of the potential water power of the world, as compared with 10 per cent in Europe and 13 per cent in North America. Yet, so far, less than one per cent has been developed. This is one of the reasons why we have in Africa the paradox of poverty in the midst of plenty, scarcity in the midst of abundance.” “We have to move away from being reactive to the needs of others who capitalize on Africa’s abundance while turning a blind eye to the high levels of poverty their interests entrench.” “Despite the positive trends, it is not selfevident that Africa will prosper. Whether we succeed as a continent will depend on the reforms we introduce to sustain growth and make it more inclusive.”

“What we do next may significantly alter the historical trajectory of our continent. We have to build on the growth of the past decade, and invest in industrialization and our human capital to further expand and modernize our economies.” “We need to further unlock Africa’s growth potential and establish clearer, more effective links between decision-making and implementation and delivery.” “Our perspective on economic development has to start with new approaches to sovereignty, regional integration, to continental development, and, of course, to the position of Africa in global development.” “We cannot return to a time of macroeconomic imbalance, of unsustainable indebtedness and we must continue to advance an agenda for peace. We must recognize these essentials because if we do not, we will be picked off by those who are only interested in what they can extract from us at the lowest cost and this will leave our people impoverished.” “There is no doubt that we can learn from the Chinese, but we must be prepared to take risks and innovate through experimentation. Innovation starts with investing in research and development, but more crucially in education.” “But if as Africa we remain as 54 sovereign states, each with our own perspectives on how to capture all of the accouterments of such sovereignty, and use our resources in the quest for sovereign perfection, we are guaranteed to lose.”

“One of the bridges we can and must construct is that of our regional economic communities.” “Similarly, we should go well beyond the satisfaction of signing protocols, treaties, and statements of intent. We must now move assiduously to maximize the advantages that flow from larger, organized markets that the REC’s present.” “Countries do not get rich by selling goods and services to themselves, but by producing goods the world needs and moving closer to global frontiers. What is important is to change the composition of the exports to include manufactured goods.” “Concerted expansion of the productive capacity, including supply, competitiveness and innovation must be prioritized.” “As a starting point of integration, we must focus on the importance of getting the politics right.” “Having elected governments, including local government systems is crucial if we hope to implement the development we require in growing capabilities and ensuring infrastructural investment.” “We have to ensure the accountability of our institutions of governance in order to build the trust of our citizens, and importantly of the global investment community.”

TOURISM FOCUS:
Spotlight on Axim Introduction
T
ourism in a nation could very easily serve as a leveraging tool for rapid socio-economic advancement. Countries like the United Arab Emirates, Mauritius, and Malaysia, just to mention a few, have used tourism as a true catalyst for accelerated development. In Ghana, tourism continues to play a significant role in poverty alleviation through income generation, employment, and infrastructural development in local communities where tourist attractions can be found. As the fourth most significant foreign exchange earner, tourism has become an important component of the Ghanaian economy. Nonetheless, the question that needs to be seriously addressed by policy makers and stakeholders in the industry is how far we are prepared as a country to take tourism to the next level. All over the world, tourists have become very discerning and savvier when it comes

to choosing a tourist destination. The global tourist is now demanding for better quality products than ever before. Those destinations which keep up the pace in terms of quality infrastructure and excellent service delivery are the ones cashing in on this multi-billion Dollar industry. Ghana as a tourist destination abounds in some of the most amazing natural attractions comparable to anywhere in the world. From the Kakum National park, to the Mole Game Reserve, and the pristine beaches along our coastline, just to mention a few, Ghana is so naturally endowed to make a much more significant impact on the global tourism map than we have done so far. In this part of the world, we can still boast of a few breathtaking sites that will capture the imagination of every first-time visitor. For this maiden edition, BEST IN GHANA magazine is placing the spotlight on Axim.
Axim Axim is every tourist’s delight. Situated 70 km on the coast west of Takoradi in a tranquil and cozy natural bay, and with a population of approximately 12,000 people, Axim is home to sub-Saharan Africa’s second oldest fort, the triangularshaped Fort St. Anthony which was completed by the Portuguese in 1515, captured by the Dutch in 1642 and later sold to the British. Its major attractions are its serene, sandy, and rocky beaches and a rich historical and cultural heritage. The beautiful coastal town of Axim is an amalgam of two settlements known locally as ‘Upper Town’ and ‘Lower Town’. The townsfolk are mainly fishermen and farmers. Axim earned its place in history as one of the busiest trading posts on the west coast of Africa in the 16th century. Because of its strategic location, Axim became a major port for the export of mainly timber products and gold, attracting several companies for brisk commercial activity. Though Axim has a lot of catching up to do when compared with similar destinations in other parts of the world, Axim is holding out her own as a modest, tranquil, and restful town with historical anecdotes and a lot of fun for the holiday maker. Axim would not have earned its place on the tourism map of Ghana without making mention of excellent lodging and leisure facilities being offered by the Ankobra Beach Resort, a beautiful and traditionally-styled resort with an all-embracing menu of locally sourced fresh produce; the Lou Moon Lodge, a luxury ecoresort with its own private island and swimming bay; and finally
the pick of the moment, Axim Beach Eco Resort, a serene and ecologically friendly resort offering a spectacular view from the top of a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
Axim Beach Eco Resort Axim Beach Eco Resort (also known as Axim Beach Hotel) is one of the best beach resorts in Ghana. It is described by many as a tourist haven. Situated on a high precipice inundated with palm trees and overlooking the spectacularly amazing Awangazule Beach, Axim Beach Resort offers you a unique opportunity to appreciate nature in one of its purest forms. From the premises of the resort, looking southwards in the direction of the jerky Atlantic sea, you are met with a beautiful spectacle of a beach winding itself majestically and in a circular fashion along the fringes of the Atlantic sea shelf. The view is simply amazing. On a good day, one can easily spot a school of whales and dolphins migrating across the wavy waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Axim Beach Resort is every tourist’s delight. The architecture of the resort exhumes a natural balance between the environment and modernity without compromising the Ghanaian traditional legacy and the comfort of guests. This environmentally conscious hotel recognizes the importance of a sustainable tourism industry for Ghana. As such, the hotel has equipped its facilities with solar devices for hot water. Water is also carefully managed, aided by a very modern bore-hole system. One striking feature of the hotel is the warmth and friendliness of the staff, who are mainly local indigenes. INTERNATIONAL
SUNDAY
Lighthouse Chapel international International Sunday is one of those special days on the calendar of the Lighthouse Chapel International, a day that is celebrated every year on the first Sunday in the month of September.
Last year September as usual, the day was marked by a rich display of cultural diversity all over the lighthouse fraternity in 66 countries spread across five continents and represented by 1538 branches. On this day, congregants parade themselves in their indigenous national or traditional costumes amidst fanfare and performances with an international touch. This resonates very well with the command of Jesus Christ in Mark 16:15 for the gospel to be preached to every creature in the entire world. Indeed the gospel has an international face, roping in all races and cultures from all corners of the earth.

On the first of September 2013, the crew of BEST IN GHANA was privileged to witness at first hand the celebration of colors in the extremely diverse and highly international Airport branch of the Lighthouse Chapel International. If you are looking for a feel of international flavor in a church, then locate yourself in the assembly of the Lighthouse Chapel International – Airport, anchored powerfully by the dynamic and indefatigable Bishop Eddy Addy and his able assistant, Rev. Eddy Botwe.
