A Note From Mrs Robertson On your screen, right now, you are looking the first edition of the Parkside Primary Times. Everything included inside has been sourced, created, written and edited by the magazine club team (The MCT). They put their heart and soul into creating this marvellous magazine, so please take the time to have a look. But just before you read on, I would first like to give them a huge thank you for all the hours and hard work they have put in to making it. THANK YOU! It has been an absolute pleasure working with you all.
Comments from the Year 6 Editing Team: Emily:
All of the people in magazine club worked really hard on the magazine.
Evie:
Even though our magazine does need some improvement, we hope that you enjoy it.
Lara:
We worked for 6 weeks on this magazine. I hope you enjoy it.
Thea:
We hope you enjoy our magazine; we spent every Thursday after school so please appreciate it.
Harvest Festival On Thursday 4th October 2012 year 6 ran a harvest festival. The Magazine Club Team (MCT) went round and asked how our customers and market stall sales people what they thought of the market. The sales people were Angus, Lewis, Hugo, Abbie, Emily Randolph, Emily Griffiths, Lara, Jack, James and Sam.
Angus reported that the stall had done extremely well and that overall Class 6 had raised £67.01! What a fantastic achievement.
When asked about the stall, Lewis said “It was quiet, but then everyone started to come and it was excellent!”
We also some of our customers for their views on the stall; many of them said that it was ‘brilliant’ or ‘fantastic’ and even ‘astonishing’. Furthermore they commented that the stall was very well set out.
Clearly Class 6 did a fantastic job and a huge thank you goes out to them. They were able to sell a variety of different things like fruit, vegetables, cakes and some tinned/packeted foods. None of it would have been possible without the support of the whole school, who helped by donating some of the produce. Thank you all for your generosity.
Here is a little poster for your room!

- SMART Staying safe on the internet is very important. It is easy to stay safe if you remember to be SMART!
Safe Keep safe by being careful not to give out any personal information when you’re doing things on the internet.
Meeting Meeting someone you have only been in touch with on the internet can be very dangerous. Remember online friends are still strangers even if you have been doing things online with them for a long time.
Accepting Accepting emails, messages, pictures or texts from people you don’t know or trust can lead to problems; they may contain viruses or nasty messages or anything else.
Reliable Someone online might lie about who they are and information on the internet may not be true. If you like chatting online, it’s best to only chat to your real world friends and family.
Tell Tell your parent, carer or a trusted adult if someone or something makes you feel uncomfortable or worried, or if you or someone you know is being bullied online you must tell someone!
And remember ... Be SMART stay safe!!!
Find out the best games to play this Christmas!
For girls I would recommend ‘GirlsgoGames’ as they bring out new games every day, and on special occasions they bring out games just for that topic! If you really love it you can become a member. It is a gaming site worth joining.
And for boys I would recommend mine craft - you build a new world out of blocks and you can create anything you like! Plus there are two modes, survival and creative; have a go and if you really like it you can pay money to get the full version! I would say it is a great download (having been on it myself).
Have a go at these puzzle. They will keep you occupied. These are special Christmas puzzles! Woof.

HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW MR BLAKELEY? You’ve probably all thought, at some point, ‘ Here comes Mr Blakeley, the new head teacher, acting all head teachery’ … but who is Mr Blakeley, the person, and what does he like? This is why we decided to ask him some questions (some pretty random questions!) The first question we asked him was ‘Who inspired you to become a head teacher?’ He exclaimed “It was my first head teacher; he was so inspiring, caring, showing kindness towards others and shared a love of working with children just like me!” Then I decided that is what I was going to be … a teacher!” He went on to explain that from then on he became a teaching assistant, then a teacher, then a deputy, then finally (at last) he became a headteacher!
The second question we asked him was ‘Is there anything you would like to change about this school?’ He politely said “Yes, the reception playground; I would like to make it bigger and brightly coloured. I also think there should at least be a slide and also a covered area so people can go outside whatever the weather! I also want to turn the library into a cool computer suite in order to improve everybody’s learning.”
Then we asked him ‘We all know you have three sons, but if you and your wife had a baby girl, what would she be called?” He replied “I would have to confirm with my wife, but I think we would call her Esther.” After that we asked “What football team do you support?” He said “I don’t really support a football team; I am from Gloucester and in Gloucester children are more likely to be cricket and rugby players. But one of my sons loves football and supports Brighton.”
Last but not least we asked him “What is your favourite food?” His simple answer was “CHEESE!”
Santa was preparing for Christmas Eve as it was the day before then.
He was checking all the reindeer when‌ Rudolph went missing!!!
He.Pam looked high.
And he looked low.
But he was nowhere to be seen.
Rudolph had gone.
He ate some milk and cookies to take the stress away and...
FLASH! A bright red light came through his window.
Who s It was Rudolph!
Rudolph was back in time for Christmas Eve.

‘Dear Lulu’ is our advice page. If there is anything you would like advice on, please pop a note in our ‘Dear Lulu’ box (just outside Class 6) and we will try to answer it in our next magazine. Remember – if you need some help or advice urgently, you can always speak to any of the adults in school. They are all good listeners and take great care of us!
“I constantly try my best, but everybody criticises and makes me want to cry!” I am very sad that someone is upset at a happy place like Parkside. But I am going to try my best to answer your problem and try to help you feel better. Nobody can ask you to do any more than your best. If you know that you are trying your best, that’s all anyone can expect of you and you should feel proud of your efforts. Try not to let criticism upset you; the person criticising might be trying to help you to be even more successful next time. If you do find criticism hard to deal with, have a chat with an adult who might be able to help you with this.
“What should you do if you don’t have anyone that wants to play with you or you don’t know how to play with anyone?” Try saying something like ‘Your game looks really fun, please can I join in?’ If they say no, then they might not be the kindest person to play with and you might be better off finding someone else to play with. There are lots of kind, caring children in the playground who would be happy for you to join their games.
WHAT ARE YOU?
And finally ….
