“Serenity Serenity is not freedom from the storm

ABOUT: BEHAVIORAL CLINIC STUDIO IV DURATION: 12 WEEKS SQ FOOTAGE: 11,497 SQ FT This healthcare project followed the brief of the 2022 IIDA Student Design Competition. It is located in at the Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. It is approx. 11,947 sq ft. The objective was to design a behavioral clinic specializing in treating mood disorders such as anxiety and depression and by treating other disorders such as autism or substance abuse. I was given the outer shell and created the space plan, FF&E, and overall design. My design is inspired by the quote, “serenity is not freedom from the storm, but peace

amid the storm.” storm The clinic can be a calm space to help the recovery of the patients. The clinic will have organic free-flowing lines that have a rhythm to it to mimic the visual of ripples in the water. The color scheme is neutral with minimal stimulating colors in reference to nature nature. Natural materials such as wood are used throughout to help create a serene environment. Way finding and signage is present throughout the clinic in efforts to minimize confusion for its users and contribute to a calm state of mind. mind The design of the clinic is highly functional and serve as a safe space for patients to escape from the storm within.

but

peace amid the storm.”

CONCEPT & THEORY DIAGRAM Sense of Control PATH SEATING

The large circulation path gives users the option of how to maneuver through the space. The multiple seating options in the waiting area allows patients to choose where they want to sit. By providing options, it gives the users a better sense of control.

Social Support PATIENTS These zones foster social environments. In the exam room guest chairs are provided STAFF

so patients can have the support of their loved ones through a potentially stressful appointment. The staff break room gives staff the ability to interact with their coworkers while they rest. The purpose of the large group therapy rooms is to have an open supportive dialogue with all the patients.

Positive Distractions All these design features are intended to alleviate the stress of the patients. Water features will be located along the main path so help users feel calm as the maneuver throughout the clinic. The play areas in the waiting room will help distract the children so they are not bored waiting.

Concept The curvilinear bench with a built-in planter will be composed of natural materials. This bench is intended to make guests feel relaxed and peace among the medical hardships they are currently facing. The healing garden includes natural finishes and is surrounded by bamboo. It includes a custom fountain to add a sense of relaxation and peace.

NOODLES & COMPANY HEADQUARTERS FOREVER HOME COMMERCIAL

ABOUT: WORKPLACE PROJECT STUDIO III DURATION: 12 WEEKS 10,000 sq. ft. For this workplace project I designed the Noodles and Company Headquarters located on 2321 15th St in Denver, Colorado. The suite occupied the first and second floor of the building. Noodles & Company emphasizes the importance of connection and inclusion in its brand. Hence, the concept for this project is Nexus, a Latin word defined as a connection or series of connections linking things together. To represent this idea of connection, the importance of community will be emphasized in the office. Open spaces will offer employees direct access to beautiful vistas and natural daylight. To engage those often working from home, agile workstations will be centrally located. The color scheme will be warm to reflect the colors in the company’s branding. By creating a space that emphasizes connection, the office will be a warm environment where employees will enjoy their workspace and inspire each other.

JOYAS JEWELRY STORE FOREVER HOME RETAIL

ABOUT: RETAIL PROJECT STUDIO III DURATION: 3 WEEKS 3,000 sq. ft. For this retail project we were tasked with designing Joyas, a jewelry store located in Denver, Colorado. Joyas is a brand that values their artisans and wants to empower them through the space. The company aims to create a memorable shopping experience while also showcasing beautiful jewelry that is timeless. The target demographic for this store is the middle to high upper class. This store is high-end and creates an experience for guests that contributes to their purchase. The concept for the design is celebration because the goal of the space is to emphasize the artisan’s work in the best way possible. In order to support these artisans and their craft, the design of the store is elegant to showcase the jewelry in a extravagant manner. Visitors will leave feeling celebrated with a memorable experience and luxurious purchase. Overall, this project allowed me to be creative and helped develop my Revit Modeling skills. Majority of the architectural features and lights are modeled by me.

THE BLOOMING PLACE HEALTHCARE

ABOUT: WOMEN’S REHABILITATION CENTER STUDIO IV DURATION: 3 WEEKS SQ FOOTAGE: 39,639 SQ FT In this project we are posed with the task of turning an abandoned building in the Tallahassee area into a space that would serve the community. In the brief, three week project my classmate and I created The Blooming Place. This facility serves as a rehabilitation center for women subjected to domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Through our research we discovered one and four woman are sexually assaulted in the undergraduate years of college. This alarming percentage is what influenced our decision to create the women’s rehabilitation center. It serves as a space for women to seek refuge. The space provides a secure sleeping quarters, fitness center, children’s daycare, cafe, public and private courtyards, an indoor garden, and group and individual family rooms. Users are welcome to bring guests or children with them. Extra security measures have been taken to maintain the safety of the individuals.

ABOUT: STROZIER LIBRARY REDESIGN STUDIO II DURATION: 6 WEEKS 21,000 sq. ft. In this project we were tasked with redesigning the first floor of Strozier Library located in the center of Florida State’s campus. The intention of this design was to creat a social atmosphere while providing a safe space for students to work in during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our concept for the design was inspired by Genius Loci: the character or atmosphere of a place. The design has a clear identiy while aiding the users in place attachment. The design is calming with organic colors and textures in order to provide a relaxing and inviting atmosphere for students.

ABOUT: CAMPUS DOOR PROJECT AUTOCAD-1 DURATION: 4 WEEKS In this project we were tasked with choosing an exterior door on campus and then providing an elevation view of it using AutoCAD. I chose the Wescott Building because of its architectural significance and that it serves as a landmark for Florida State. This drawing was built solely through using a photograph of the building and counting the bricks to determine the location of the architectural features.

WESCOTT BUILDING AUTOCAD DRAWING

The Westcott Building was constructed in 1910 and was initially called the Admissions Building of the Florida State College of Women. It was renamed the James D. Westcott Memorial Building in 1936. It is located on the far east side of campus. This building houses the central administrative offices as well as the Ruby Diamond Auditorium. It serves as an architectural icon and landmark for Florida State University.
