Design 6 Adaptive Reuse Building

The Barrio Hostel Ecological + Culture = The Beginning of Ecocultural Hostel In the middle of the busiest and polluted urban environment where hostels and hotels are populating, an urban lung hostel that will enhance the tourism globally while changing how the hostels perceived by designing a more ecological approach is proposed. The Baryo Hostel is fully committed in providing a more sustainable sanctuary for backpackers and tourist. A hostel that will let you experience and give you knowledge what to expect when travelling in the Philippines. The design is not only focusing the high quality accommodation that the hostel can provide but the hostel is passionately dedicated in spreading the rich Filipino culture hence, giving you the modern barrio feels.

Design 7 House for the Blind

The OM House “Behind the eyes that don’t see is a brain that sees.” We are always afraid of blindness, but blind people are more aware in their surroundings than normal people. In a way, they can see what we see. Esref Armagan a blind Turkish painter, was born without sight to an impoverished family, he thought himself to paint and write. When neuroscientists scanned his brain while painting by FMRI (Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging), they spotted his occipital cortex functioning which is the part of our brain that is responsible in processing visuals in our memory. For this design, the designer came up with the concept of Byakugan. The Byakugan is a fictional state where an individual has a powerful range of 360° vision which giving the user the ability to see great distances and see other’s chakra or inner energy. The designer thinks of incorporating this poetic idea into spaces, providing a 360° view of Taal and Batangas in all Major Spaces at the same time enhancing and stimulating the client’s other sensorial experience. The concept aims to activate other cortex of the client’s brain that is associated with visual processing, perception and recognition of auditory stimuli, and movement. With this, strategical design solutions that will let the client be independent and enjoy the functionality of his house is the main goal.

Design 7 New Clark City Performance Center

Quadrado Performance Center Biome: An Eco-futuristic Approach for Performance Center In the world of ecology, a biome is a community of species which usually consists of plants and animals that have common characteristics for the environment they exist in. Biomes are distinct biological communities that have formed in response to a shared physical climate. Like the performance center, this concept presents the idea of spaces adapting to the different condition (acoustics, lighting, temperature, events, performances, and the like) that cater the needs of various users (audience, performers, creatives, and local community). With this idea, the design considers the future conditions of the envisioned development of the green city creating a holistic community for combined users. Designing the future performance center should not only consider the building aesthetic but we also need to consider these 3 parameters in designing an iconic yet future ready structure: Performance art, Society, and Natural Environment. A fundamental design consideration of BCDA in visualizing the NCC is the response to climate change and to become a prominent green city while considering the cultural impact of the structures. Performance Art The art of theater, drama, concerts and other multi-media performances is the first objective of the project. These performance areas are designed to elevate the spirit of performance arts through space modification and space programming. Society One of the major parameters of the project is to create a welcoming and intimate social space that will entice the community and at the same time creating an icon for arts and culture. Natural Environment Climate change is the fundamental problem of our time and this is the main concern why development of green cities similar to NCC is spreading internationally. Adaptation to climate change became the third parameter that helped shaping the building by strategically adding sustainable gardens throughout the spaces providing passive cooling and can help reduce the CO2 of the community.

Design 7 Experiential World War II Mueseum

Laya Maynila Museum Redefining Restoration: Unravelling Filipino Identity The Philippines had been under the rule of colonizers in the past centuries and was finally liberated after World War II. Although physical colonization is a thing in the past, yet we, Filipinos are still very much colonized mentally and psychologically by our colonizers. Our perception of their superiority has caused a cultural identity crisis within our nation. And today, the biggest question we ask ourselves is “What is Filipino?” The museum is a restoration project of the Rajah Sulayman Theatre inside Fort Santiago. The Rajah Sulayman Theater is what’s left of and important location during World War II. The design acknowledges the site’s historical significance by complementing a contemporary design rather than a reconstruction of its original structure. The parameter results to a design that is a contemporary museum experience that aims to attract the future generation to learn from the past and be inspired to lead into the future to realize the richness of Filipino identity.

Experiential Interactive Space Instead of displaying the events chronologically, the spaces are designed to let the users explore their own spaces. This approach let the user have a unique experience in a museum.

Architectural Interiors

LINGAD RECIDENCES

The client Mr. Lingad and his family are programmers and tech experts who seeks to live in a cozy tropical High End 3-Bedroom unit. Programmers are often exposed to blue lights or artificial lights and radiation coming from their computer screens. To resolve this issue, the interior design should be more connected to nature to stimulate their other senses and might help them to take a break from blue lights. The designer propose a more tropical approach letting the natural sunlight penetrate the interior while being surrounded by tropical plants as requested by the client. The color palette that the designer and the chose is neutral and earth colors creating a cozy feeling for the overall aesthetics of the condo unit.

Visualization Project

DELAB INTERIOR “Ever since we opened the doors of our humble little studio shop, we’ve been privileged to meet, interact and collaborate with people from the creative industry, both on a professional and student level. Together we became the pioneers of laser cutting and modeling techniques to #makeideashappen like never before (we say yes to more sleep!). As we enter our 5th year, we want to push the boundaries yet again by launching the first ever architecture studio space open for creative professionals and students in the Philippines. Unlike the typical co-working space & study hubs, where individual work is the norm Creative Studio®️ by Delab Collaborative Inc. is a studio space with collaboration, creativity and technology at its core. Our studio where you need to be if you want inspiration, a place to share ideas, connect, recharge and gain exclusive access to state-of-the-art laser cutting and 3D printing facilities.” - Delab Collaborative, Inc.

Visualization Project

Museum of Modern and Contemporary Arts MoCMA//PH

From the designer (Chynx Bilao): “Bridging between Mathematics and Art. It is uneasy to translate and understand the language from one to another. Translate the complexities of the Algorithm language to the indefinite forms of Arts would require a lot of discussion and exchange of opinions and critics from different schools of thought. First, we need to define these two, separate and find a bridge or connection that links them in able to translate and understand that new type of Typology. A visualization project for undergraduate thesis in PUP Manila.

Visualization Project

D.E.B.R.I.S BY ARAMIS CORULLO

Text from the artist: “DEBRIS is a 4-piece modular space pod made out of Earth’s trash and space junk through trash tectonics. It was based on the idea of converting one of our planet’s major problems into viable resources on another planet, thus making Earth a better habitat while effectively creating another one. Space junk, on the other hand, is one of the major challenges in space travel due to threats of collision. To sustain a colony in another planet, massive clearing operations such as the manufacture of these DEBRIS spacecraft/pods shall be beneficial. The 100-sqm cubic pod is specifically designed for the living conditions of Mars, the most habitable planet next to Earth in our Solar System and the subject of SpaceX and NASA’s future manned missions, such that the technology of Elon Musk was integrated into the design. DEBRIS aims to counter Mars’ unfavorable conditions with material technology and smart, reactive spaces. “ -Aramis Corullo
