NORTH DESIGN Oak Tree Design Concept - With the 4-Star Oak Café located in an obscure location behind the existing building, it was important to create a clear entry statement and a sense of place for visitors. Relating to the namesake “Oak Café”, the design is inspired by an oak tree. The building entry and lobby take the abstract form of a tree trunk and the lobby then branches out into the other areas of the building with the floor and walls reflecting the growth rings of an oak tree.
THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE CULINARY ARTS MODERNIZATION & ADDITION provides a new setting for the highly respected culinary arts program where the design creates an environment that not only fosters real-world learning experiences, but also enriches the lives of both the student body and the public community at large.
Campus Gateway - Located in a prominent location on campus, the new Culinary Arts will be the main gateway onto campus having the dual purpose of acting as both a beacon and the unifying element to the Fine Arts complex. Although the exterior reflects a similar palette of color, materials, scale and mass as the surrounding buildings, its morphology gives a strong identity to the campus while blending harmoniously into the context.

THIS WORKFORCE & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CENTER is an adaptive re-use project, located in an existing office building near two interstate highways and surrounded by hotels that many will use when coming to the center. The project includes a tenant improvement of the second and third floors that are 13,556 square feet each. The existing total building area is 41,291 square feet. PLANNING PROCESS The biggest challenge of this project involves working with an existing office building structure that is not DSA certified and bringing the structure, accessibility and fire, life, safety to code to become DSA compliant. DESIGN The Workforce and Economic Development Center is a corporate environment that is inviting and comfortable for its guests. A variety of spaces are designed to give staff and visitors flexibility in how they work and learn. The building is separated into private and public zones.

KINGS COUNTY COURTHOUSE
SCOPE SUMMARY The new, 144,000 SF LEED Silver superior courthouse consists of four floors, with high volume public functions located on the first floor and courtrooms and necessary support spaces on the upper floors. The criminal and civil clerk, jury assembly and administrative spaces are organized around a four-story atrium space. The required queuing space for public transaction counters occur within the footprint of the atrium. The upper floors are organized around four courtrooms per floor, with judges’ chambers and other services positioned to provide private access to courtrooms. The new court facility consolidates court services and proceedings that occur within the surrounding area into one central location that is safe, secure, and operationally efficient.
