Sock Monkey

Stippling was used as the shading technique on the sock monkey. Sock monkeys are pretty limp creatures and I wanted him to be doing something other than just laying there, so I positioned him on a stool as if he were waiting on something. Non-photo blue prismacolor and ink were used in the final application.

Honey Reserve

For this piece I wanted it to look like something out of a childrens book so I drew inspiration from Winnie the Pooh books for the shape of the tree and the honey comb. I worked with foreground and background with the bees to add depth to the image. Watercolor and carbon pencil were used.

My forest

This is the first scene I visualized when I was in my forest. The beginning of the forest was light and gradually became darker the farther back you went. There was a lot of vegetation and these larger than life flowers. Watercolor was used as a base with ink and carbon pencil on top.

Brooklyn, Baby!

I wanted to draw a nice cityscape view as a background for my action figure, Slinkey, but I wanted it to be more than just buildings so I decided to draw the Brooklyn Bridge. The dog is placed on top of the bridge to show scale and play with the idea of a small dog in the big city. It is a dusk setting so I created a halo around the buildings and they are reflecting onto the water. Watercolor was used as a base with carbon pencil, ink and white charcoal on top.

Bones

This illustration started out with an idea from a sketchbook drawing of skull flowers. I like the idea of the skull being paired with something beautiful because it is out of place and not expected. The idea was developed even further and eventually became a girl looking into a mirror and insead of seeing her reflection she saw a skeleton. I wanted the mirror to be heavy and have a sort of antique look to it. Watercolor, ink, graphite, white charcoal and carbon pencil were all used in the final application.
