culture in motion 2012.1 architetcutal design III orientors: gilberto yunes maristela almeida liliani duarte students: marcos sansão marianna godoy

The proposal of the discipline Architectural Design III was to develop a series of projects involving the most iconic structure in Florianópolis/Brazil: the Hercílio Luz Bridge. The objec ve was to create ac vi es around the bridge that could bring users back to the loca on (nowadays, the bridge is closed) and provide a new point of interest for the city. To do so, three hubs were proposed: health, knowledge and culture. The first two of the themes were carried out in double. The first step was design a modular structure that could be used in both individual projects without restric ons. It should form a space where any ac vity could be performed.

The culture hub is located on the con nental part of the city and is right by the sea.

The health hub is located on the islander bridge head and is close to the city centre

health hub 2012.1 architetcutal design III orientors: gilberto yunes maristela almeida liliani duarte student: marcos sansão

The health hub is formed by a modular structure that repeats itself to form a con nuous space. It integrates a gym, café and relaxa on area in order to provide a “body and mind health centre” for the local popula on. Taking in considera on that the main theme is movement, the building is place to quick and temporary ac vi es, such as yoga classes, massages and gym sessions. The structure itself represent the movement concept and its dynamics. This public space also provides the user with a magnificent view of the Florianopolis' North Bay and its features. Limited by 300m² area, the building occupies only the ground level so as not to intervene in the view of the bridge.

4. The diagonal surfaces provide the sensa on of wider interior space

2. First volumetric for: a solid with 6x8x5m. 5. The surfaces also block sunlight and heat, providing ilumina on through ground reec on.

3. DeďŹ ni on of the basic structure: a reinforced concrete shell. Top and lateral surfaces are pulled from their axes

6. Moving the blocks also create a more dynamic internal space and decreases the need of areas for internal circula on.

cultural hub 2012.1 architetcutal design III orientors: gilberto yunes maristela almeida liliani duarte student: marcos sansão

The culture hub is located near the bridge and beside the ocean. The choice of the cultural topic used as theme for the project should be related to cultural and social aspects of the city (Florianópolis/Brazil). As so far the theme had been associated to movement, the chosen topic of work was the “Natural and Urban Landscape of Florianópolis”. Since the early 1900's, the development of the city has been contribu ng for the constant change of its form and how it is presented for the popula on. As the building is located in front of the centre of the city (in the opposite side of the bay), it makes a very appropriate loca on for the placing of a live frame of those transforma ons. Furthermore, the volume is inspired by the waves of the ocean, a representa on of mo on,dynamism and change.

social living 2012.2 architetcutal design IV orientors: josé kós themis fagundes student: marcos sansão marianna godoy marina klein reguinaldt schmoeller

The project program was proposing to design a social living complex. Different from the usual social living programs adopted by the public administra on (single unifamiliar houses), the complex is supposed to embrace the social rela onships and its natural environment. The proposal consists in a series of modulated structures that could be repeated in several condi ons. The complex is formed by a series of buildings distributed along a large area, mixing living, services, leisure, gardens and park. The structure is prefabricated, allowing the buildings to be constructed more easily and in short period.

1. Block with modulated size and structure. The Square form is used due to its ease of construc on (low budget social living)

3. Internal spaces are reserved for future expansion, while provides more area for ven la on and illumina on.

2. The ver cal circula on volume is pulled from the original block. It provides protec on to the facades from the sun and ensures space for staircase, li and water reservoir.

4. The ďŹ nal volume has a facade protected from intense solar heat and dripping rain water. The areas reserved for expansion are temporarily used for social ac vi es.

The Site

The site is located in Florianópolis, in a neighbourhood away from downtown. It is situated in a recently occupied place, composed mostly small houses. Nowadays, a more intense urban development is taking place. This project was designed to avoid a uncontrolled growing, presen ng a more sustainable solu on to the living building demand.

structural experimentation 2013.1

builiding technology III orientors: fernando barth student: marcos sans達o

The model represents a structure made of steel, designed to be the new roof for the model studio building of the university (UFSC). In 1/10 scale, the model was develop to represent more precisely the physics involved in a real version. The proposal was to test steel structures involving issues such as acous cs, ligh ng and temperature.
