chongqing, china a patterned landscape michelle mucker
an extension of the existing grid of retail towers, this patterned landscape reaches through the site to the water’s edge. vehicles are routed between the existing development and the proosal, creating an island of panels and partitions. pedestrian highlines and landscape corridors run along the plaid that has begun to weave throughout the site. at the intersection of waterfront, roadway, and existant topography a series of floorplates derived from the site-tartan begin to rise, twisting in increments of 5 degrees, creating a vertical landscape, that also finds itself as a horizontal buffer, at once engaging and barricading the neighboring retail program.

three footprints were used in the physical assemblages: for the tower’s architecture, and for the landscape in multiple scales. this established and maintained the pattern’s language throughout the project.
