SCAVANGER HUNT

BLADE FIRE CORAL

MILLEPORA COMPLENATA

CONSERVATION STATUS: Critically endangered

DESCRIPTION:

This hardy coral species is common on the shallow reefs of Caribbean islands. Part of a family known for painful stings, it has specialized stinging cells, called cnidocytes, used to paralyze small prey. Tolerant of high-energy environments like wave breaks, it forms complex structures that provide shelter for both predators and prey. This colorful coral, with its unique tubular shapes, is beautiful to observe—but remember, do not touch!
