Background I am currently an elementary art teacher working in Anne Arundel County Public School. I have always know that teaching and working with children is my passion
Fort Meade Base Fort George G. Meade[2] is a United States Army installation located in Maryland, that includes the Defense Information School, the Defense Media Activity, the United States Army Field Band, and the headquarters of United States Cyber Command, the National Security Agency, the Defense Courier Service, Defense Information Systems Agency headquarters, and the U.S. Navy's Cryptologic Warfare Group
Manor View Elementary Manor View Elementary is one of the two elementary schools on Fort Meade Base. It was built in 1973, and renovations began in 2017. The school serves all military children ranging from Grades 1-5. There are no buses except for one that goes to the base children’s aftercare. Everyone else either walks or gets dropped off to school.

Big Idea How can I represent the culture of my Students within the school community? Through this project, I will present this idea to my students in grade 3-5. I can show students examples of some murals within the community.
Overview/ Inspiration â—?
The culture of my work environment is one that is unique, it is located on Ft. Meade Base and we serve Military families.
â—?
With the completion of our school renovation/revitalization, I would like to represent student work as a whole to create a welcoming experience to the ever so military families that are apart of our school.
Exploration ●
●
●
How can I have my students collaborate and work together as whole? How can I give my students voice and ownership when completing this task, could it be done through a survey. How would my students want to represent themselves as a school?
Process/ Drafts ●
Discussions with students to gather ideas on how they would like to create the mural.
●
Experimenting with different art mediums with the students to allow for exploration. (This will allow to see what materials they think they would work best
●
Students will complete sketches in order to decide what the mural would like.
● ●
Students will work on the mural during art class each week (approx 60 minutes).
School Arts, Feb 2019 Issue
Appraise ●
Submit the final design idea to the administrator for approval
●
Once students have come to a final collective decision of what exactly that want this mural to look like, we can then decide what materials will be needed to complete it Discussions about how artists work with others to complete mural (Show examples of mural artists). Is this mural something that the community could interact with it? Complete class critiques and time to make executive decisions on how this mural should look like?
●
●
Elevation ●
Speaking to the students Is this mural something that could be added onto the future? Work In Progress?
●
Perhaps have a mural artist come and talk to the school about creating them . Involving the Ft. Meade Liaisons to document our progress or write an article about this project in the Community Newspaper
●
Assessment ●
●
●
Students will reflect on their personal progress and contribution to this project in a written response Students can also participate in discussion with their peers about the experience of the project Students will also be evaluated by a given rubric.
