MS Dockville FESTIVAL Music: Bands & DJs, including 54 international acts; Art: Eleven artists or artist collectives from nine different countries. Poetry Slam: 11 German speaking poetry slammers presented by Kampf der Künste e.V. Free trade Zone: 35 creative do-it-yourself-traders. Visitors: About 20.000 visitors from all around Germany and the surrounding countries. ~ 40 % less than 21 years old, ~ 48 % between the age of 22 and 28 , ~ 12 % older than 29

Once again the three day MS Dockville Festival was the highlight of an eventful MS Dockille Summer in Wilhelmsburg! All Elements that make up the MS Dockville summer were joined by the presence and performance of 120 Bands & DJs as well as 10 poetry slammers. This set the stage for all shades of current sociocultural and pop movements. Just as the years before many stages were custom built and designed by our in house work crew in the weeks before the festival. These stages such as the wood construction “Butterland” or the Container Installation “Nest” contribute to the special flair and are landmarks on the festival compound. These Projects grew as part of the Art Camp and functioned as stage, welcome desk, meeting point and exhibition space in one. This unique combination of artistic elements with good german craftmanship is special to the Dockville and supports its mission of connecting art, structure and communication. Apart from the usual set of stages we were able to convince the Schauspielhaus Hamburg of giving us a giant Cake formerly seen in last year’s production of Fitzgerald’s Great Gatsby which we redesigned as Stage and named it “Torte”. The diverse line up of established names in the show business playing side by side with talented new acts of the international underground create the special sound of the Dockville. Well know headliners such as Hot Chip, Maximo Park, Tocotronic and James Blake as well as young acts like Friends, Retro Steffson, Future Islands, Dillon, Lucy Rose and Team Me all contributed a special sound and power to make the festival to what it is. Same as the years before we kept our promise that the night would never end and invited notorious Acts such as Negrot, Dauwd, RSS Disco and many more to turn the night into a massive dream of beats and dancing people. Art Camp The Art Camp during the three weeks before the festival set the stage for the festival setting by designing the premises, designing installations around the festival and live contributions throughout the festival weekend. Projects such as the local Künstlerkollektivs Krautzungen were very present on the festival by writing passages of Tolstoy’s War and Peace all over people’s bodies and projecting one of the grand oeuvres of world literature to a crowd of thousands. As well established element of the festival program over the last couple of years is the notorious Ms Dockville poetry slam. Ten slammers from all over Germany performed in the Maschienenraum to engage the crowd in thought and confront them with the beauty of words. Once again the slammer Andy Strauß was able to convince the audience of his talent and style and took the trophy home with him. Apart from

the performances on and off the stages our free trade zone offered the opportunity for various projects to present themselves to the public: Do It yourself design booths, non commercial design and fashion and many supported organizations such as Greenpeace, Viva con Agua and Kein Bock auf Nazis had the chance to sell their ideas, their products or gather support and collect donations for their work. The orientation and focus of the festival is still unique in Europe. Many festivals have come up with own concepts of combining Art and Music to match their ideas. But what makes the Dockville special is the well working symbiosis of all these cultural and social elements to make it a humane haven for everyone. The MS Dockville will stay a playground to try out new concepts and ideas and is a great motivation to all people contributing to this special event. Sustainable Dockville Festival For our means we understand sustainability on three levels: the social, the ecologic and the cultural level. Every festival has a certain negative ecological impact – so the main focus has to been to minimize this impact and make all visitors aware of these issues. A festival with this kind of outreach is a great platform to communicate and push social and ecological topics which has to be understood as great responsibility to the organizer. Same can be said for the summer camp Lüttville. A short overview of our activities:
