SPEKTRUM 2013 AUGUST 3RD, 2013; 14 BANDS/DJS; 3,000 VISITORS After its debut last year, SPEKTRUM matured into a joint venture for music, which essentially relates to the “beat“ as such, with 14 national and international acts on two stages and well over 3,000 visitors in 2013. In times of blurring genre boundaries and continuous new developments it is necessary to show a great deal of forward thinking, particularly in terms of festival formats. Therefore SPEKTRUM is not guided by specifications but uses musical gray areas to create a contemporary whole. Conceptually, many versions ranging from rap, trap, drum’n’bass, dubstep to hitherto unlabeled forms find common ground on multiple stages, which we shall jointly refer to as a fusion of genre-spanning BEATCULTURE. In addition to the British dubstep luminaries Mount Kimbie, the eccentric US American rap newcomer Danny Brown enthralled the audience, performing on the ”machine room“ stage alongside renowned German acts such as Megaloh from Berlin and the beat acrobats Retrogott & Hulk Hodn from Cologne. In a forward-looking frenzy, the snapshot in time of all represented styles of music was celebrated on the brand-new RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY STAGE. Dutch artist Krampfhaft ecstasized with futuristically intricate dub and, alongside his fellow genre allies Koreless and Evian Christ from the UK, paved the way for housy tunes by Pearson Sound and DJ Adlib. 2013 saw a symbiosis of music and lifestyle burgeon, which evolved into an inherent part of the MS DOCKVILLE Summer. SPEKTRUM has clearly left its childhood behind, breaks with conventions representative of genres and clichés, and enjoys growing prominence and popularity in the all-Hamburg cultural jungle. 2014 will see SPEKTRUM act as a vital cultural and musical part of the eventful happenings at the Reihersteg in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg.
