With your support, the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict continues to make Seattle a more affordable, sustainable, livable city by fighting inequality, restoring the environment, and preserving cultural vitality in the heart of Capitol Hill. We are making a mark with street smarts and a bias for action, piloting innovative strategies that address local problems, then sharing our lessons learned with a broad audience. In 2016, EcoDistrict efforts centered around fostering a diverse and civically engaged community. We launched the Capitol Hill Renter Initiative in March and more than a hundred renters gathered in September for the first ever Capitol Hill Renter Summit. We partnered with the University of Washington to develop new technology that will reduce parking pressures on our streets and in garages. We helped the City of Seattle remove dumpsters and other pedestrian hazards from neighborhood sidewalks. 2017 will be another busy year. We are changing how renters engage in civic discourse, centering artist and LGBTQ interests in our work, advocating for better building design and environmental stewardship, ratcheting up the neighborhood's commitment to fighting climate change, making it more possible to enjoy an active car-free lifestyle, and increasing access to green and open space. The EcoDistrict would not be possible without our fantastic volunteers, partners, sponsors and eco-enthusiasts who made 2016 a rousing success. Thank you for your interest, enthusiasm, and support.

WHY WE DO IT In 2011, Capitol Hill Housing started the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict as a test lab for ideas that make our neighborhood safer, greener, healthier and more equitable, because we believe our neighborhood is stronger when we bring people at the margins into the center of community development work. Today, we organize efforts around a vision of environmen tal, social and cultural resilience with an eye toward solutions that lift up those most in need.
