The humanitarian situation deteriorated further last year, mainly due to increased levels of armed violence, in particular the resurgence of the M23 armed group in North Kivu.

The escalation in conflict and insecurity forced nearly 600,000 people to flee their homes, in a province where 1.9 million people had already been displaced.

MSF maintained activities in Rutshuru territory, where most of the fighting was concentrated, working in the general referral hospital where we supported intensive care, surgery, therapeutic nutrition and sexual violence care. We also supported four health centres in Rutshuru, with a focus on paediatric nutrition.
