How to Make Pasta For Beginners Despite what you may have been told, learning how to make pasta is really not that difficult. Seriously, if you can mix, knead and roll - you can make your own pasta. Plus it is cheaper than buying it at your grocery store. And you won't believe how much better tasting fresh home made pasta is. I'm drooling just talking about it! What's even more important, is that it's much healthier than store bought pasta because you can control exactly what ingredients go into it. Ok so let's get down to business and make some yummy pasta. The amount of ingredients will obviously vary according to the amount of pasta you want to make but a basic recipe will call for 2 cups of unbleached flour, 3 large eggs and some salt. Place your 2 cups of flour on a smooth clean work surface in a mound and make a well in the middle. Crack your eggs and place them in the well along with a pinch of salt. Grab a fork and mix the eggs and salt that is inside of your mound and then slowly mix in the flour that is on the edge of your well. Make sure that you mix in your flour only a little at a time. Once your dough becomes thicker and starts to stick to your fork, put down the fork and continue to bring in flour from the sides of your mound with your hands. Keep doing this until all the flour is mixed with your dough. After your dough is all mixed, how does it feel? Is it too moist or too dry? If it's too moist, add a little bit of flour. If it's to dry, add a little bit of water. Once you get your dough to the right feel - clean off your work surface, sprinkle a little bit of flour on it and place your ball of dough on the surface. Now it's time to knead the dough. Place the heel of your hand on your dough and push out and away from you and then fold it over on itself. Continue doing this and turn your dough a little each time until your dough is completely smooth. If at any time your dough feels sticky again, just add a little more flour. Now divide your dough into 3 even pieces and roll each piece into balls. Cover the balls with a towel and let sit for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes has passed, you would grab your rolling pin and flatten your dough balls to about a thickness of 1/8 to 1/16. Now dust it with a little more flour and cut into 1/4 inch strips. And that's it! You are now ready to cook and enjoy your homemade pasta. See' I told you that it wouldn't be hard learning how to make pasta:-).
