MEN’S LACROSSE

Friday

FRIDAY, MARCH 4 Morningside University raises the curtain on its 2022 home schedule this afternoon. Midland University visits Rosen Field for Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference action.

THE SERIES Midland claimed the first contest in the head-to-head annals. The Warriors were 18-4 victors on their home turf last April.

THE MATCH-UP Benedictine University posted eight goals in the first period and moved on to a 26-2 league win over the Mustangs on Feb. 27. The Ravens, compiling three of those scores less than five minutes in of the loop opener for both sides, peppered 41 total shots on Mustangs’ freshman netminder Carter Genzen. Genzen managed to deflect 15 for saves. Head coach Jack O’Brien’s Mustangs broke through on the Legacy Field scoreboard once in the second and third periods. Junior midfielder/attacker Brendan Rorabacher tallied one of the successful strikes and assisted on the second for freshman attacker/midfielder Sean-Michael Corbin. Junior defender Jacob Johnson and Rorabacher also led the team in ground balls (Johnson – three) and shots (Rorabacher – five). With that one contest in mind, Mside finds itself leading the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics in shots per outing (10). Morningside was tabbed for an 11th-place finish on the conference coaches preseason ranking, released Friday, Jan. 21. They received 14 poll points. Coached by Billy Dineen, Midland is out to a 1-1 start. In late February, they throttled Cleary University 19-2 and battled Taylor University to a 12-9 finish in non-league action. Junior midfielder Josh Pereira and freshman attacker Carson Meier led the offense to win, tallying four goals each. Meier also scored three against Taylor as his seven goals lead MU. Sophomore Jamison Evers has been in net for the entirety of the year, posting 18 saves. Morningside begins three in a row on the road Thursday, March 10, visiting Ottawa University for a 7 p.m. face-off. They return home to take on Missouri Baptist University Saturday, March 26.
