CLUBS GOT TALENT

Variety Show & Awards Night

The Clubs Department hosted Clubs Got Talent on March 23, 2016 to follow its annual tradition of raising funds for a club’s charity. The event was a showcase of the diverse talent present throughout the Clubs Department. The beneficiary of our fundraiser this year was RefugeAid McMaster. RefugeAid is a UNHCR-endorsed organization that provides humanitarian aid while raising awareness about current and emerging trends affecting refugees, migrants and asylum seekers. The event also served as recognition for the incredible work that clubs do for the community on and off-campus through the awards portion of the night. Clubs sent in their nominations for awards in different categories and Clubs Executive Council was responsible for voting on the awards. The following clubs received recognition in the respective categories: MSU Club of the Year - COPE: A Student Mental Health Initiative New Club of the Year - McMaster Indigenous Health Conference Academic Club of the Year - McMaster Model United Nations

Cultural Club of the Year - McMaster Association of Caribbean and West Indian Students Recreational Club of the Year - McMaster Observatory Outreach at Night (MOON) Club Religious Club of the Year - McMaster Catholic Students Association Social Issues Club of the Year - McMaster Arts for Children

At the end of the show, the audience also had the opportunity to vote for the performance of the night. The McMaster Tamil Students Association received the most votes and were awarded the People’s Choice Award Performance of the Night (pictured above). All award winners, including the Performance of the Night, will receive a guaranteed office space inside Clubspace for the 2016/17 academic year. A big congratulations to all our winners and nominees for the incredible work they continue to do for students and the community!

Farewell From Your Outgoing CLUBS ADMINISTRATOR Hello everyone, I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone in the Clubs Department for such an incredible year. It has been an absolute pleasure to support all of you during the past twelve months in enhancing life for students and the community. Managing one of the largest club systems in the country would not have been possible without your passion and cooperation. Throughout the year I was proud to roll out some tremendous additions and features to the department to help represent and support you all better. From a brand new look; to an extra assistant; to a brand new booking system; to more money than ever, all of this would not have been possible without the support and resources that the MSU continues to invest into the Clubs Department. A big thank you to all the MSU full-time staff members and stakeholders who’ve worked so patiently with me over the past few months to help me successfully complete my initiatives.

The biggest shout out to my two assistants Rabeena and Tanveet, without whom I would not have been able to complete any of my projects and initiatives for the year. My successor Jonathan Davis comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be very beneficial to the Clubs Department. He has some great ideas and projects that will continue to make the department even better next year. He will be taking over the role on May 1, 2016 and is very excited to get started. I wish you all the best of luck with your future endeavors , whether it be club-related or not, and thank you again for making this year terrific!
