1996 - Second Team

Lemasters earned Second-Team All-America honors at shortstop as a junior in 1996.

A three-year starter at shortstop, Raduenz moved to third base as a senior and went on to enjoy the best year of her career en route to Second-Team All-America honors.

Moore became MSU’s first All-America honoree when she was named first team in 1983 after hitting .302. As a senior, Moore garnered second-team honors with a .287 average and a team-leading 20 RBIs. Moore, who was named the Alderton Athlete of the Year in 1984, ended her career with a .299 average and a thenMSU record 164 hits. A First-Team Academic All-America honoree in 1983, Moore was inducted into the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996.

She hit an MSU-record .422 with 65 hits in 1996. Raduenz became the only player in program history to hit .400 or better in two seasons (.414 in 1995).

The only player in Spartan history to earn First-Team All-Big Ten honors three times, Lemasters is MSU’s all-time leader in hits (263), doubles (52) and triples (19) and ranks tied for second with a career batting average of .344.

A CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-America honoree in 1996, she is MSU’s all-time leader with a .372 batting average and ranks third in hits (224) and fourth in RBIs (104).

MSU Athletics Hall of Fame #9 Gloria Becksford

Former Spartans in the Pros

A former Spartan pitcher and eventual head coach, Gloria Becksford still ranks as one of the most consistent and successful performers in Michigan State softball history. A solid performer, both in the circle and at the plate, Becksford played a pivotal role in building the tradition and history that Spartan softball is today. On Sept. 29, 1995, former Spartan pitcher Gloria Becksford became the first female athlete at Michigan State University to have her uniform number retired. Becksford’s uniform – No. 9 – was officially retired as part of the 20th anniversary reunion of the 1976 National Championship team. After graduating from Hamilton High, the Holland, Mich., native attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. Two years later, Becksford transferred to MSU, where she helped lead the Spartans to the height of softball glory.

In 1975, her first season at MSU, Becksford won 17 games and led the Spartans to a third-place finish in the College World Series. Becksford would become the greatest pitcher in MSU history after leading the Spartans to the AIAW National Championship in 1976. She appeared in 24 of MSU’s 28 games in ’76, throwing 137.1 of the team’s 192 innings. She went 17-1 with an ERA of 0.56. Of the 59 hits she allowed, just eight were for extra bases. Becksford faced 513 batters, striking out 110 and allowing just 14 walks. She was just as tough at the plate, hitting .370 with 20 hits and 14 RBIs. During her career, she tossed three no-hitters, which stood as the most in program history until Jessica Beech topped the feat with four career no-hitters (2001-04).
