ALLEN FIELD

ALLEN FIELD John "Sonny" Allen Field is home to Morehead State Eagle baseball. The facility features a 1,000-seat stadium, a spacious locker room for MSU, a team recreation room, coaches' offices and a dressing room for umpires steps from the field. The press box has recently been upgraded and enclosed with windows after several years of being an open-air space. The press box features high speed internet connections, allowing MSU audio and video broadcast capabilities. Since 2015, Morehead State is 56-15 at Allen Field since 2015. DIRECTIONS From interstate 64 -- follow highway 32 into town until it intersects with U.S. highway 60. Turn left and follow highway 60 for approximately one mile. Turn left onto Playforth Place and follow it up the hill past the Academic-Athletic Center. Allen Field will be on your right just past the football stadium.

COACHES

MIKE MCGUIRE HEAD COACH 6th Season

Alma Mater: South Carolina

Phone: 606-783-2882

Email: m.mcguire@moreheadstate.edu

Mike McGuire, who served as the pitching coach at Morehead State in 1995 and 1996, is in his sixth season as head coach of the Eagles. He returned to MSU prior to the 2013 season. In the past three seasons McGuire has led the Eagles to 106 wins, the most of any OVC school. McGuire led Morehead State to a historic season in 2015. The Eagles posted school records for overall wins (38) and Ohio Valley Conference victories (20). MSU also captured its first league tournament title since 1993 and advanced to NCAA Regional play for the first time since 1983. McGuire was named OVC Coach of the Year. Following the 2016 season, three Eagle pitchers (Matt Anderson Pirates; Tyler Keele - Diamondbacks; Pat McGuff - Twins) were drafted in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, giving the program five draft picks in the previous two seasons. Two of McGuire's seniors in 2015, Kane Sweeney Yankees) and Brandon Rawe (Marlins), were chosen in the draft. Aaron Leasher was picked in the 2017 draft. In 2014, under McGuire's leadership, Morehead State defeated nationally-ranked Kentucky and Indiana. The Eagles opened the 2015 season with three victories at nationally-ranked San Diego. The Eagle offense set numerous school single-season and individual records in 2015 and ranked first the nation in five offensive categories. McGuire, who has been in the coaching profession for more than 20 years, previously made stops at Winthrop, Lander (S.C.) and Louisburg (N.C.). He has mentored 20 All-Americans and more than 50 players who signed professional contracts. He received a bachelor’s degree in sports administration from South Carolina and master’s degree in health, physical education and recreation from Morehead State. He and his wife Angela have three daughters, Courtney, Sydney and Sarah.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION

NIKO HULSIZER WINS 2017 COLLEGE HOME RUN DERBY Morehead State sophomore slugger Niko Hulsizer and New York Yankees and Major League home run leader Aaron Judge now have something in common, and hey, make that two things in common to be exact. Hulsizer smacked 49 actual home runs and also connected on the money balls (worth 2 homers) on July 1 to win the 2017 College Home Run Derby at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb. Hulsizer, who once hit a home run at Yankee Stadium just like Judge did so many times this past year, advanced to the finals after hitting 35 dingers in the first two rounds. He then hit 15 actual homers and nailed the money ball out for a total of 17 in the finale. Alabama's Chandler Taylor came in second, narrowly missing the money ball after trailing Hulsizer by one in the finals after his four-minute clock closed out. He joins an elite group of just eight college players who have won the Derby. Judge won the event in 2012. Hulsizer's 49 homers were tied with Taylor for the second highest total in College Home Run Derby history.
