RACING ATTITUDE Il legame tra Olmo e le competizioni affonda le radici nelle imprese sportive di Giuseppe Olmo, detto GepĂŹn, protagonista tra il 1932 e il 1938 di prestazioni che hanno reso grande il ciclismo italiano. Dal 1939, anno della fondazione della Olmo biciclette, i modelli di punta hanno equipaggiato decine di team e professionisti di tutto il mondo.
The bond between Olmo and racing is rooted in the sports achievements of Giuseppe Olmo, nicknamed GepĂŹn. Between 1932 and 1938, he was the protagonist of sports ventures, which gave Italian cycling its great name. Since 1939, the year Olmo bikes was founded, our top models have equipped dozens of teams and linked the brand to professional cyclists throughout the world.

From 1998 to 2000, the Vitalicio Seguros team won three Spanish championships and the world road cycling championship in Verona in 1999 with Oscar Freire. In the early years of 2000, Olmo was the technical sponsor for the Cantina Tollo-Acqua & Sapone team, with which Danilo Di Luca won the Giro di Lombardia.

Produciamo biciclette da quasi un secolo ma siamo ciclisti da sempre. Nel 1939 Giuseppe “Gepìn“ Olmo, al culmine di una carriera che l’ha portato ai vertici del ciclismo mondiale in sella alle migliori bici del momento, fonda la Olmo Biciclette a Celle Ligure. Il suo sogno era quello di mettere in gioco la sua esperienza e sensibilità di campione innamorato della competizione per creare la bicicletta perfetta.
We may have been producing bicycles for nearly a century, but we have always been cyclists. In 1939, Giuseppe “Gepìn“ Olmo founded Olmo Biciclette in Celle Ligure when he was at the height of his world cycling career in the saddle of the best bikes of the time. His dream was to use his experience and sensitivity as a competition loving champion to create the perfect bicycle.

Ogni telaio è progettato dal reparto Ricerca & Sviluppo di Olmo con l’ausilio dei più avanzati software di modellazione 2D/3D per ottenere profili e geometrie il più possibile aereodinamiche. Un ulteriore step verso la produzione in serie è la realizzazione di un prototipo per i test di resistenza e durata in laboratorio e per le simulazioni in galleria del vento. Saranno infine solo le centinaia di chilometri in strada con i nostri tester professionisti, a forgiare il progetto con quell’inconfondibile bilanciamento tra leggerezza, rigidità e confort per ogni specialità, sia su strada che fuoristrada, ed un controllo totale su ogni percorso tipico di una bici Olmo.
With the aid of the most advanced 2D/3D modelling software, the Olmo Research & Development department designs each frame to obtain the most aerodynamic profiles and geometries possible. The next step towards mass production is the creation of a prototype for stress and endurance tests in the laboratory and for simulations in the wind tunnel. Lastly, our professional testers will take it on the road for hundreds of kilometres to forge the project with that unmistakeable balance between lightness, rigidity and comfort for every on and off road speciality and to check every typical road use for an Olmo bike.

Carbon experts
La gamma Trofeo è la massima espressione della tecnologia costruttiva in carbonio monoscocca. Per trovare un equilibrio perfetto tra rigidità, confort e resistenza Olmo impiega una combinazione di fibre di carbonio con differenti moduli elastici: le zone più sollecitate sono realizzate con fibre ad alto modulo (60T) combinate con fibre a medio e basso modulo (30T e 24T) e stratificate con resine epossidiche con nano-particelle per raggiungere un mix ottimale di reattività e resistenza.
The Trofeo range is state-of-the-art constructive technology using a carbon monocoque. To find a perfect balance between stiffness, comfort and resistance, Olmo uses a combination of carbon fibre with a varying elastic modulus. The areas under most stress are made of high modulus fibre (60T) combined with medium and low modulus fibre (30T and 24T), layered with epoxy resins with nano-particles to achieve an optimum mix of reaction and resistance.

La stagione 2018 segna per l’alta gamma di Olmo l’inizio di una nuova era: con alle spalle oltre 18 mesi tra progettazione e test su strada Olmo presenta le nuove Gepin Pro e Gepin Pro Disco: verniciatura standard e special cromo per il telaio e 64 combinazioni tra colori e allestimenti, a partire dai top di gamma Campagnolo e Shimano elettronici, fino all’introduzione del rivoluzionario K-FORCE wireless di FSA. Profondamente rinnovata anche la mtb front Bignone con un telaio in carbonio HMX ancora più leggero e dalle geometrie compatte grazie all’ottimizzazione delle sezioni dei tubi. Nei prodotti Trofeo off-road Olmo affianca alle trasmissioni 1x11 i nuovi gruppi Sram e Shimano a 12 velocità con un range di rapporti esteso fino al 500%.
The 2018 season marks the beginning of a new era for Olmo’s top range: with over 18 months design and road tests behind it, Olmo presents the new Gepin Pro and Gepin Pro Disco models: standard paint and special chrome for the frame and 64 colour and fitting combinations, starting with the top range Campagnolo and Shimano electronics to the introduction of the FSA revolutionary, wireless K-Force. The MTB front suspension Bignone has also been completely renewed with an even lighter HMX carbon frame and compact geometries, thanks to the optimisation of the tube cross-sections. In its off-road Trofeo, Olmo uses the new 12-speed Sram and Shimano transmissions with an extensive range of gears up to 500% in addition to the 1x11 transmissions.

The vertical head tubes use progressive absorption technology to improve effective pedalling and power transfer to the ground. The rear stay of the 2018 Bignone is more compact than the MY2017. The hydraulic brakes guarantee adjustable braking with a perfect response under any conditions. The position of the calliper connections on the rear stay is designed to increase heat dissipation and improve the alignment between the calliper and the disc.
12-speed single-crown transmissions Tra gli allestimenti disponibili per la nuova Bignone è previsto il gruppo Sram Eagle a 12 velocità con pacco pignoni 10-50 che estendono il range dei rapporti disponibili fino al 500%. The designs available for the new Bignone include the 12-speed Sram Eagle 10-50 tooth cassette, which extends the range of available gears up to 500%. In recent decades, there is no comparison between the material used in races by professional cyclists and what an amateur cyclist can find in the shops today. The disc brake is becoming increasingly popular along the roads worldwide. Under difficult conditions and on wet ground, the hydraulic disc brakes give a better performance than conventional systems: more adjustable, more powerful and safer, as they are less likely to lose their punch, thanks to the development of the Post-Mount and Flat-Mount calliper connections incorporated in the frame and fork.

A new lease of life for aluminium Molti hanno abbandonato i telai in alluminio ma non Olmo che da sempre ha continuato a innovare e migliorare le tecnologie e le strutture in alluminio, creando telai leggeri e resistenti specificatamente progettati per l’off-road. Per le Granpasso in alluminio Olmo impiega il processo di Idroformatura ad alta pressione per plasmare i telai con spessori differenziati in base alle zone di massima e minima sollecitazione introducendo delle nervature opportunamente orientate.
Many have given up on the aluminium frames, but not Olmo. We have always continued to innovate and improve aluminium technology and structures, to create lighter, more resistant frames, specifically designed for off-road. Olmo has used high pressure hydroforming to mould the aluminium frame of the Granpasso with differentiated thicknesses, according to the areas of maximum and minimum stress, by introducing opportunely oriented ribs.
L’evoluzione dei sistemi di progettazione e dei metodi di saldatura ha permesso di modificare il layout dei telai off-road per separare il punto di incontro delle tubazioni dalle zone di maggiore sollecitazione meccanica. Tradotto in termini di prestazione significa maggiore resistenza, rigidità e minor peso rispetto a qualsiasi altro telaio in lega del passato, con un incremento sostanziale dell’elasticità per assorbire le vibrazioni.
The evolution of the design systems and welding methods has enabled us to modify off-road frames in order to separate the meeting point of the pipes in the areas under greatest mechanical stress. Translated into performance terms, this means not only greater resistance and stiffness, but also less weight compared to any other past alloy frame, with a substantial increase in elasticity to absorb the vibrations.

La Zerosei definisce nuovi standard per le prestazioni delle hardtail da 29” in alluminio: totalmente rinnovato il telaio sia sotto il profilo dei materiali, con un risparmio di 600 gr sul MY 2017, che del layout per una guida reattiva e confortevole. La sua geometria bilanciata ha superato i più severi test ed è appositamente progettata per consentire alle grandi ruote da 29” di superare agevolmente ogni salita tecnica senza problemi e di poter poi godere appieno della reattività del telaio nelle discese, con una posizione in sella che ispira fiducia per un divertimento totale sui trail.
