This angle is calculated to give the specific bike a steering response and weight balance suitable for terrain and rider requirements. A slacker angle (smaller number) slows the steering response, and keeps the riders weight further back for better control during steep descents, especially useful for aggressive trail riding. Road bikes use steeper head angles

(larger numbers) in general, and especially for large frame sizes as they need to be sharp in road handling, and don’t encounter the steep terrain that mountain bikers frequent. Steeper angles help keep weight over the front wheel, ideal for road cyclists to keep their speed and tyre grip during flat road cornering

CHAINSTAY LENGTH Silverback uses a radial measurement from the centre of the bottom bracket to the rear axle centre for chain stay length. Shorter dimensions give the rear tyre cornering path a tighter circle, great for getting around tight switchbacks, and also improves acceleration feel and response. Longer chainstays improve comfort as the rider’s weight is not as central to the rear wheels contact patch with the ground, thereby not feeding as much force into the rider’s contact with the saddle. BB HEIGHT This measurement is derived from BB drop, the difference in height from the wheels’ axles to the centre of the bottom bracket. Lower BB heights increase stability, and lower one’s centre of gravity, helping in cornering grip. Higher BB heights improve pedaling clearance

through corners and over technical terrain. Less BB drop (higher BB’s) also help one to lift the front wheel over obstacles due to weight distribution of BB relative to rear wheel axle height, making the bike more maneuverable and light to handle. Lastly, the BB height affects the rear steering response, higher BB’s create more response to lower body rider movement, while lower BB’s create more stability and slower response

SILVERBACK ADVANCED CARBON TECHNOLOGIES Designs for carbon bicycle frames have evolved over the years, and we at Silverback are now embracing and pushing all the newest methods to produce lightweight, stiff and strong performance bicycles. Our Premium carbon frames use multiple layers of carefully shaped and calculated carbon sheets, pre-impregnated with resin. The high modulus sheets use nano-resins that have incredible strength at minimal volumes, keeping the weight as low as possible, and also helps stiffen the carbons natural properties. Using long strips of carbon around junctions and along full tube lengths maximises the carbon strand length, thereby resulting in a stronger and stiffer frame with less bulk at critical junction areas. This is achieved in conjunction with internal mandrels or EPS inserts that allow more continuous carbon layup during the monocoque frame making process. We carefully select both high and medium modulus carbon sheets for each frame design. High modulus sheets are used where more stiffness is needed, while the lower modulus sheets are used for their incredible strength, especially when flexed during riding circumstances. The culmination of the layup provides a ride that is stiff, responsive yet comfortable, allowing the rider to maintain focus on the road or trail in a synergy with the bicycle and their terrain.

SILVERBACK METAL-LAB TECHNOLOGIES Our aluminium frames start at the furnaces. Here the different alloys are made up, and differentiated by additions of certain elements such as vanadium, nickel, silicon, magnesium, titanium and zinc, amongst others. This creates a foundation for our alloy tubing choice, and provides creative tube tapers via hydroforming. Hydroformed tubes use water pressure to shape the tubing in a mould, creating more extreme shapes suited for various applications. Tubes have various butting options, from plain gauge to triple butted. Triple butted tubes offer the best in terms of strength to weight ratio, and is used on many of our frames from mid level to high end. It allows the use of very thin middle sections of tubes, saving weight, while providing a responsive and lively ride feel. The thicker end butts allow for good welding strength at the joins and add stiffness where itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s needed to ensure the frame as a whole is strong and reliable. Thereby, butted tubing sheds weight where it is not needed and creates a livelier and more comfortable ride. Many of our lightweight aluminium frames use round or oval tubing. These shapes use a gentle form of shaping versus hydroforming, called mechanical forming. It allows the use of thin triple butted tubes in these shapes, thereby creating very light, structurally strong and laterally stiff frames that also absorb vibrations and dissipate them throughout the frame for a more comfortable ride. The thin tubing gives great feedback from the trail and makes for a lively ride feel.

Many current suspension systems use pivots on the seatstays and chainstays, these systems are prone to flex as the pivots can move independently to each other, this is why we use a floating pivot point design. Floating Pivot point designs use a solid rear triangle that rotates on two sets of linkages.

IDS is Silverbackâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s unique trail suspension technology. What makes this system different is that it uses a lower linkage that is concentric to the bottom bracket. This linkage uses large cartridge bearings to create a stiff and strong attachment point for the rear triangle. The system also uses a relatively high anti squat value that is optimized to complement dual and single chainring setups ensuring that power transfer remains efficient BIKES

Most very lightweight cross country frames suffer from rear end flex due to pivots on the seat stay or chain stay areas, we have eliminated this issue by joining the rear triangle into a single structure, we have then added a unique split linkage to allow us to fine tune the leverage ratio of the system. The kinematics has been fine tuned using specialist software and alloy test mule prototypes. The suspension uses a smooth progressive leverage ratio coupled with a relatively high anti squat figure to create a very stable pedalling platform that has been optimized for modern drivetrains including single chainring setups

The BURST system is governed by the kinematics of the suspension design, and to work hand in hand with the naturally stiff BURST properties, the leverage ratio starts with easy compression (green circle) and rises rapidly to maximum shock leverage (white circle) at 57mm of travel. This creates a firm but supple start of the travel, perfect to maintain control over fast high speed sections where one floats over the terrain, and then firms up rapidly to ensure that the feedback from the trail is felt, and that the travel is not wasted or inefficient. This firmness holds the bike in a comfortable position of travel, allowing for optimal bike handling, pedalling BIKES

The Silverbacklabâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s most premium bicycle range aspires to be the dream bike for every rider. Theyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re light, stiff, forgiving and calculated in ride feel, with excellent execution in terms of finish. We want to give the rider the best combination of parts and frame in the market a product that applies our ARD principles outstandingly, and delivers the ultimate ride experience. These Superbikes were born and defined by speed. Our experience of riding and sensitivity to the bicycle manifests in every chosen part, aiding you to get the most speed out of the trail or road, and most importantly, yourself. The frames use the most advanced carbon materials with dedicated layups that promote efficient power transfer from rider to the wheels, creating a responsive and direct feel while pedaling. Shimano Press Fit 92, and FSA 386EVO BB shell systems promote efficient pedaling power through their wide dimensions that allow the use of wide down tubes and chainstay junctions to limit flex in this critical area. To complete the Superbike look, we have used exposed carbon finishes to save painting weight, and to show the details of frame construction and excellent finish. This is complimented with minimalist paint and decal areas that add finesse to the range, combining just enough colour to give each SBC Concept bike its unique look and feel.

T E C H N O L O G I E S

Our SBC Premium carbon frames use multiple layers of carefully die-cut and calculated junction joining carbon sheets, pre-impregnated with nano-resin. These high modulus sheets use nano-resins that have incredible strength at minimal volumes, keeping the weight as low as possible, and also helps stiffen the carbonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s natural properties optimally. Keeping the frame junctions together we use the longest strips of carbon possible, employed along full tube lengths maximising the carbon strand length, thereby resulting in the best weight to stiffness frames in our range. This is achieved in conjunction with internal mandrels and EPS inserts, allowing more continuous carbon layup during the monocoque frame making process, reducing the amount of material needed due to better strength control, and thereby aiding weight reduction. We carefully select both our carbon sheets for each frame design. High modulus sheets are used where more stiffness is needed, while medium modulus sheets are used for their incredible strength, especially when flexed during riding circumstances. The culmination of the layup provides a ride that is stiff and responsive, yet forgiving, allowing the rider to maintain focus on the road or trail in a synergy with the bicycle and their terrain. The SBC range is superbly regulated to minimize waste material, and only uses the best materials available. The SBC frames inner weaves combine unidirectional layers that are compiled in various directional layers with the purpose of calibrating stiffness, vibration direction, strength and overall ride feel. The outer weave of Concept R1.0, R1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 frames is 1K, a fine and even weave that is expertly controlled in layup, ensuring excellent finish and optimal weight to stiffness ratio. The Concept R2.0 and R2.1framesets use Marble Stone multi directional finishing layers for added stiffness and damping, useful for aggressive road racing and to ensure that powerful riders direct all their energy to the wheels without unnecessary fatigue from road vibrations. The Concept 1.0 and 1.1 frame design employs an exposed unidirectional layup that controls the suspension frame pivots and rear triangle stresses with calculated sheet shapes and layer buildup, ensuring maximum strength, stiffness and durability with minimal weight buildup.
