The I Bar is an authentic western heritage event center that seats up to 515. It is situated on a 10 acre converted hay meadow, 250 ft off of the Tomichi Creek at the base of ‘W’ Mountain in beautiful Gunnison, CO. The Colorado DOW operates the buffer of land between our venue and Tomichi Creek and offers access to amazing fly fishing and equestrian/hiking opportunities.
The I Bar is situated 1.5 miles southeast of downtown Gunnison behind Jorgenson Park and the Pioneer Museum. Its unique setting is what makes it very special; just on the edge of town, but deep into the quiet spaces of agriculture and recreation.
The venue is a converted hay barn with stage, lighting & sound. While the sides are open to provide fresh air and scenery, there are curtains that can be closed for inclement weather. The venue is in operation from May-October for community orientated events and music you won’t want to miss.

Music fans live for the opportunity to experience world-class talent in an intimate venue, and Lariat owners Court and Robbie Johnson provide that opportunity year-round in Buena Vista. Since taking over The Lariat in 2016, Court and Robbie have consistently booked top national and regional talent – Grammy-winning blues legends like John Primer and Otis Taylor as well as internationally renowned artists like John Popper
of Blues Traveler and Davy Knowles from the Isle of Man.
Increasingly, bands headed to or from Colorado’s music mecca – Red Rocks Amphitheater – are stopping by Buena Vista to perform at The Lariat as word spreads about this amazing musician-friendly venue. That list includes upcoming performances by Nicole Atkins and Town Mountain, btw.
The Lariat’s dedication to live music separates it from other music venues, but the Lariat experience actually begins outside, with stunning vistas of the Collegiate Peaks and the historic character of small-town Buena Vista. Long known as home to the state’s best whitewater. BV sits alongside the Arkansas River surrounded by the highest concentration of 14ers in the state, natuAfter taking in the outdoor fun, incredible scenery and small-town charm of BV, the experience continues inside. Court and Robbie transformed The Lariat from a nondescript dive bar into a state-of-the-art live music venue, craft beer and cocktail bar, and gastropub restaurant featuring a locally sourced menu. Renovations accentuate the railroad-era history of the brick building, creating a western steampunk vibe.
RIVERWALK CENTER
After playing his first gig at The Lariat, Gasoline Lollipops front man Clay Rose, exclaimed, “We love it there. … It’s really one of the best venues in Colorado, especially the sound!”
Since then, The Lariat has raised the bar by installing the only Meyer Linas sound system to be found in an intimate (300-capacity) venue in Colorado. Controlled by a Midas Pro 3 soundboard, the system produces impeccable sound and gives The Lariat bragging rights for the best sound system in Colorado’s mountain scene. Along with Court and Robbie, legendary sound man Brother Rob provides the human touch – a key ingredient in creating The Lariat’s magical sets of sonic delight.
TELLURIDE BLUES & BREWS

The legendary John Fogerty joins Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band, Boz Scaggs, Anders Osborne, Ryan Bingham, Tab Benoit and many more to complete a world-class artist lineup. Other additions include International Blues Challenge Winner Ms. Hy-C & Fresh Start, Joanna Connor Band, Husky & The Slow Attack, Eagle Eye Williamson, Grant Sabin with Michael Jennings, Molly Gene One Whoaman Band, along with five stand-up comedians, Wow! You should definitely be in Telluride, Colorado September 13 - 15, 2019.
We have attended this event for many years and have watched its popularity grow. Through sun and snow and rain and lighting evacuations, people have not been driven away. It is a hardy, dedicated group of Blues enthusiasts that keep this event alive and thriving and I can tell you it has been some of the best nights of my life. I am thinking that event producer Steve Gumble, who made this event what it is since he was in his mid 20’s feels that way, and more.
Since its inception, this event has expanded to musicians now performing on three stages, tons of local, really good, regional food and craft vendors surrounding the perimeter. Kids have a special spot with activities and fun play features to enjoy too. I wish I was a kid who got to go to concerts, they all have so much fun. The show doesn’t end until late night these days. The music starts right back up again at the TBB late night club shows aka Juke Joints are worth staying up for. In addition, a plethora of special events have been added throughout the festival. This years weekend includes the “Blisters & Brews” 5k fundraiser race, incredible free Yoga Sessions taught by instructors of the Telluride Yoga Festival, the Telluride Blues Challenge, Blues For Breakfast, Campground Sessions and the Sunset Blues Concert.
As the name implies, Brews, the festivals craft beer roots, taps an equally impressive and diverse collection of 56 craft breweries boasting 170 styles of craft beer and ciders at the festival’s Grand Tasting. Highly regarded as one of the premier beer tasting events in the Southwest, the Grand Tasting takes place inside the festival grounds on Saturday, September 14 from 12 pm to 3 pm. Official festival beer sponsor Sierra Nevada Brewing Company will also be on hand with a bevy of favorites including classics and rare creations such as the “Back Porch Lager” (only available at Telluride Blues & Brews Festival).
If you are new to this remarkable music festival then you will be wowed. The sounds, the people and the amazing views of Telluride’s box canyon are truly spectacular.

10 MILE MUSIC HALL BELLYUP ASPEN
Several years ago Court Johnson stumbled onto a 135-yearold historic building in Buena Vista that had housed a neighborhood bar for over 100 years called The Lariat Bar and Grill in Buena Vista (The building has been a brothel, bar, post office, confectionery, and general store). Enchanted by its turn-of-the-century railway-town soul he saw the potential and decided to buy the place.
A large renovation revealed the structure’s beautiful red brick walls and vintage oak floors. A “steampunk” touch was added to the original back bar that had been brought down on a train from Leadville 100 years ago, Then they installed the piece de resistance – a large elevated stage with an over the top sound system and plentiful dance floor space to enjoy it all below.
Some of Colorado’s most beloved bands have graced this new stage, including Trout Steak Revival, Rapidgrass, Dragondeer, Grant Farm, Otis Taylor, and area favorite Bonfire Dub. Their national acts are also on the rise with John Popper (of Blues Traveler), John Primer (band leader for Muddy Waters), Goose, and Futurebirds wowing the Lariat’s crowd.
Then… Covid reared its ugly head and the music stopped playing. The dust settled and time stood still in the space that housed this remarkable speakeasy and roadhouse. Good things are hard to kill though and The Lariat just announced their Grand Re-Opening May 13, 2022, with Grant Farm to bring the establishment back to life. Leadville Cherokee is scheduled for the next day and they anticipate the music lineup to stack back up. The same great feel and vibe, new menu, and a Meyer house sound system will greet everyone from this point forward.
The Lariat has also crafted a new menu to keep you energized for dancing throughout the night or to enjoy a nice lunch. An array of selections ranging from small plates to salads, grilled dinner entrees, and sandwiches will be ready to order. You can once again belly up to their expansive bar with fabulous bartenders ready to stir up a libation to your liking.
Buena Vista had fast become a music sensation and the Lariat is back once again bringing live music to their fans. Check their schedule, get back out, and go enjoy a night of entertainment and fine food right there in downtown BV.
