Big Entertainment More tunes! The city comes alive in the summer with the annual Max and Emily’s Summer Concert Series. Coming into its ninth year, this must-see event has brought in national headliners such as altrock band The Verve Pipe, Emmy Award-winning actor Jeff Daniels, American Idol alum Kris Allen and Central Michigan University’s own Joe Hertler and the Rainbow Seekers. When the summer starts to wind down, the family-friendly events including Movies by Moonlight provide one last opportunity to enjoy the warm weather. Viewers of all ages bring their own blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks for free movie screenings near City Hall. Throughout the school year, CMU offers more than 500 events annually. Whether your preference is art, fashion, or athletics, there’s a diverse series of events hosted on CMU’s campus all year long. Attend world-class theatre events, watch talented dancers twirl, drink in the elegance of the symphony, explore the next age of fashion
during a student-run fashion show or cheer on your favorite teams during one of many sporting events. As the weather cools, the Mt. Pleasant Christmas Celebration downtown will warm you with holiday cheer. Get out of the cold to enjoy the live music at Rubble’s Bar over a tasty cocktail. And, no matter the time of year, leading attractions at the Soaring Eagle Casino will keep you busy. You’ll have your pick from a variety of acts, including comedy, concerts, and a series of murder mystery dinner parties. The outdoor concerts at the Soaring Eagle Casino are known to keep the good vibes coming during the heart of summer. See what Isabella County has to offer with events that include the Maple Syrup Festival in nearby Shepherd, or the annual Man vs. Mountain 5K winter obstacle course in February. In Mt. Pleasant, entertainment is right outside your door. Don’t just see it for yourself — get out and live it. #MTPLEASANTMI

Big Culture Mt. Pleasant invites artists, musicians and performers of all types to share their talents and passions in a series of exhibitions and performances that celebrate the city’s culture, art and history. Here, you’ll find a town that has grown beside the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and celebrates that relationship annually. Every July, the Tribe hosts the Pow Wow, a culturally rich event that has been bringing the authentic Native American experience to Mt. Pleasant for more than 30 years. Tribal dancers, singers and other vendors travel from all over the region and the United States for an event that features traditional Native American dress, dancing, drumming, chanting and cuisine. Visitors and members of the community are also invited to learn more about the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe at the Ziibiwing Center, where you can browse a diverse collection of sacred and ceremonial items. If it’s art that thrills you, check out the events hosted by Art Reach of Mid-Michigan. This nonprofit has nearly four decades of commitment to the community through events, classes and sponsored scholarships. With more than 15 arts and cultural programs, Art Reach is painting an expressive culture in Mid-Michigan like no other. In August, Art Reach hosts the annual Art Walk Central competition that displays more than 100 works of art around town and throughout Central Michigan University’s campus. The competition, offering more than $10,000 in prizes, is one of the must-see events of the summer. Artist Battle!, one of the most exciting legs of the event, is a two-hour competition held during Max and Emily’s Summer Concert Series before a crowd of jeering spectators. #MTPLEASANTMI

SMALL TOW N
Big Adventure It’s been said that the great outdoors helps us escape the mind and discover the soul. With more than 1,000 acres of parkland, Isabella County is filled with opportunities to reconnect with your spirit. Start your journey at the Chippewa River, where you can master miles and miles of winding waters via river tube, kayak, canoe or paddleboard. As you wade through freshwater, or walk through the miles of greenery along the riverfront trails, keep an eye out for wildlife. Don’t forget to wave! Land again at Island Park, a 50-acre park behind City Hall. Various youth and adult club leagues compete against one another in Island Park, and families enjoy one another’s company at the many grills, picnic areas and shelters scattered throughout the area. The Timber Town playscape is a tower of entertainment for the little ones to explore. During the summer, take on the competition at the sand volleyball courts or bring the kids to cool off under the 100 water sprayers and nozzles at The Spray Park. When you’re done there, find yourself in the nearly 400 acres of green space, woodlands and athletic facilities within the Mt. Pleasant area. Deerfield Nature Park, Coldwater Lake Family Park and Meridian Park are three of the many parklands found throughout Isabella County. Bring a friend for a game of disc golf, a thrilling hike or a casual bike ride through the perfect trails to survey the majesty of nature. If you’re looking for something more active, don’t worry. Mt. Pleasant has that, too. Make yourself an itinerary: zip line through more than 4,000 feet of cable at speeds of nearly 25 miles per hour at Snow Snake, reach the summit of Central Michigan University’s climbing wall, and break out into teams for a friendly athletic competition at Morey Courts or CMU’s Student Activity Center. If you want something a little more laidback, visit one of the 11 golf courses nearby to perfect your swing. Once you’ve made a choice about where to go to find yourself, be sure to stand still and enjoy it. Stop where you are, and breathe. You’ll thank yourself later. #MTPLEASANTMI

Mt. Pleasant has grown into one of Michigan’s craft beer pioneers over the years, fitting easily into the quality beer trend currently sweeping the nation. With more than 70 ales and lagers available around town, visitors and residents alike are encouraged to explore the local craft beer scene for themselves to see how the microbreweries around town compare against some of Michigan’s best. No time is better to compare beer than June, when the city hosts the annual Mt. Pleasant Craft Beer Festival. Up to 27 breweries, wineries and cider mills from all over the state commute to Jockey Alley, the center of downtown, for a celebration of craft beer with live music and mouth-watering meals. As seasons change, so do the taps. Whether it’s a refreshing summer ale for those long days, or a creamy winter lager to keep you warm during those winter nights, Mt. Pleasant boasts a diversity of brews to match your needs. Throughout the year, specialty brews can be found to celebrate well-known events. For example, Mountain Town Brewery will be brewing a special beer for Man vs. Mountain on Feb. 3, 2018. In addition to its role as a Mid-Michigan trailblazer, Mt. Pleasant also is planting roots for the future of craft beer. Central Michigan University’s Fermentation Science Program is giving an opportunity to the next generation to turn their love of great beer into a lucrative career. The program was ranked second among the top brewing schools in North America during the U.S. Open College Beer Competition in 2016. Great beer is more of an art than a science, and Mt. Pleasant has a gallery of delicious beer that will leave you in awe. #MTPLEASANTMI BRE WS

Big Fun
Big things can come in small packages in Mt. Pleasant. There’s plenty of entertainment packed into the neighborhood for you and the whole family. There are more than 1,000 acres of parkland within the city limits, offering miles of trails to bike, hike and relax beside. Island Park, a 50-acre parkland near City Hall, has softball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, shuffleboard courts, horseshoe pits and more to play the day away. The Timber Town playscape, and The Spray Park with 100 nozzles and sprayers, are family favorites in the beautiful summer weather. When it’s time for a special occasion, Mt. Pleasant offers a number of unique opportunities to elevate your event. Take a leisurely stroll through Cyber Quest, a state-of-the-art entertainment center with a video arcade and coin-operated games to keep the whole family grinning from ear to ear. Or, get wild and crazy with a tumble at The Jump Station, where a trampoline park, foam pit, inflatables and more can turn an average day into a truly memorable event. If you’re looking for a slower yet engaging atmosphere, bring the family to the Painted Turtle to express your creative side with personalized artwork on pottery and wood signs. Afterward, get active at the Mt. Pleasant Discovery Museum, where kids will be inspired by the hands-on environment to laugh, play and learn all at the same time. When it comes to spending time with your loved ones, it’s the small moments that make the biggest difference. Make it count with a Mt. Pleasant adventure. #MTPLEASANTMI
