Big Entertainment Mt. Pleasant can be your stage, but sometimes the best seat is in the audience.

during a student-run fashion show, or root for victory during one of many sporting events.

Year-round, leading attractions like the Soaring Eagle Casino bring in a variety of shows, from comedy, to music, to a series of murder mystery dinner parties.

During year-end when the weather chills, the Mt. Pleasant Christmas Celebration in the Downtown area brings holiday cheer to all. When the ice thaws, the Movies by Moonlight summer events offer free family-friendly movies for all ages, drawing viewers near City Hall for a display of whole-hearted fun. Be sure to bring your own blankets and snacks!

The annual Max & Emily’s Summer Concert Series is a summer staple. Swiftly approaching its eighth year of drawing headliners such as Emmy Award-winning actor Jeff Daniels and American Idol alum Kris Allen, the series is a must-see summer outing. Central Michigan University, one of Michigan’s largest public universities, offers more than 500 annual events to appeal to a diverse range of tastes: attend world-class theatre events, enjoy the art of dance, marvel at the beauty of the symphony, see the future of couture 6

Al and Linda Kaufmann came to Mt. Pleasant as CMU students 40 years ago and never left. Living walking distance from downtown, they visit their favorite lunch spot, Max & Emily’s almost daily.

Worship on Sunday mornings.

“It’s like going where everybody knows your name,” said Al.

Learn more at mpcc.org

Both have menu favorites. Linda’s is #35 - low carb wrap. Al loves #98 -- the BLT. Max & Emily’s Summer Concert Series are also a favorite -- the streets of downtown are filled with music.

The Kaufmanns also love cheering for CMU’s athletic teams. “That’s the beauty of living in a college town,” said Al.

SSM M AALL L TO WN

Big Culture Mt. Pleasant is a place where performance and exhibit can be found all throughout the year, celebrations of art and diversity in every direction. It’s a place where artists, musicians and performers of all types can pay tribute to history that paved their way through singing, dancing, art and more. In July, the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe hosts the annual Pow Wow, which has more than 30 years of history as a central celebration of Native American culture within Mt. Pleasant. One month later in August, more than $10,000 in prizes are up for grabs to artists who compete in the annual Art Walk Central competition. Art Walk brings displays of more than 100 works of art around town and throughout Central Michigan University’s campus. The popular Art Battle! is one of the most exciting legs of the event, presenting a two-hour competition before a cheering crowd of spectators during the Max and Emily’s Summer Concert Series. The art and diversity in Mt. Pleasant is more than just annual events; it’s a passion of the community. Art Reach of Mid-Michigan continues that commitment by hosting community events, classes, and sponsoring scholarships to inspire lasting interest in the arts. By visiting the Ziibiwing Cultural Center, you’re invited to learn about the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe through a diverse collection of sacred and ceremonial items and explore the culture.

SMALL TOW N

Big Adventure If you and yours are feeling confined by the great indoors, let the fresh air cleanse your soul. No matter the weather, you’ll be together to explore mountains of possibility in Isabella County. Home to 1,000 acres of parkland, there’s plenty to see and do in the neighborhood. As seasons change, enjoy boating and fishing on the water, or camping, disc-golf, hiking and cross-country skiing on land. Get to know the winding rapids of the Chippewa River, where you can take a river tube, kayak, canoe, paddleboard and more through miles and miles of freshwater and greenery. Be on the lookout for wildlife, as you may spot a deer or two on your trip down the river. Once you’re done splashing leisurely down the river, pull off to one of the many parklands located through the city. With nearly 400 acres of green space, woodlands and athletic facilities, you’ll have plenty of places in the City of Mt. Pleasant to choose from for exercise, education or a rendezvous to watch the sunset. Deerfield Nature Park, Gammy Woods Campground and Majeske Landing are three of many area parklands to visit if you’re looking for nature trails to explore all year round. Some may say to leave your smartphone at home when you’re exploring nature, but in Mt. Pleasant, smart devices are encouraged. What better way to interactively learn more about the nearly 2-mile trail at Chipp-A-Waters Park? When you venture to the 1.8-mile Access Adventure Trail, both residents and visitors alike are invited to bring their smartphones along to scan the interpretive audio guide to the barrier-free trail. Whether you’re involved in one of the youth or adult sports leagues and clubs that rallies the community toward a charged cheer for victory, or you’re hanging out with man’s best friend at the dog park in Mission Creek, there’s plenty to see and so much more to do in Mt. Pleasant. See it for yourself, and don’t forget to take a selfie! #ILOVEMTP

SMALL TOWN

Big Brews If good beer is an art, then artists have made a home for themselves in Central Michigan. It’s here in Mt. Pleasant that you’ll find a craft beer experience worth telling your friends about. This isn’t just a one-hit wonder; this is the real deal. Get your taste buds ready for a compilation of more than 70 ales and lagers. Enjoy the local entertainment while you enjoy the local brews; there’s dart leagues, pool tournaments, tap takeovers, trivia, karaoke, live music and more to keep you singing the song of a happy heart. When the days grow long and the weather grows warm, join the rest of the community out and about at the annual Mt. Pleasant Craft Beer Festival. Every June, the city opens its streets for the greatest hits of live music and appetizing meals in an event that draws up to 27 Michigan craft breweries to the heart of downtown: Jockey Alley. Artists aren’t just flocking to Mt. Pleasant to practice their craft; they’re being grown here. Central Michigan University’s Fermentation Science Program ranked second among the top brewing schools in North America during the first U.S. Open College Beer Competition in 2016. With a small town ambience that will make you feel right at home, the local microbreweries of Mt. Pleasant invite crowds both young and old for a show of great food, great spirits and even greater beverages.

Big Shops Retail therapy: a favorite American pastime. When it comes to shopping in Isabella County, a big city state of mind meets hometown glory in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. It’s here you will find all of the must-haves of the big box stores: Target, TJ Maxx, Meijer, Menard’s and Walmart are a few of the places you can visit to find big bargains and bigger selections. Yet, there’s character in smaller retail stores located around town. Where else can you find unique clothing and knick-knacks that your friends and family outside of the city can only wish they could have, too? If it’s local businesses that your heart desires, you’ll find plenty of them in the Downtown area — 135, in fact. From bars and restaurants, to galleries and shops, business owners will thank you for taking the time to stop in and give back to locally-owned boutiques and bistros that line the streets. In this community, it’s all about the big city convenience with a small town culture, and there’s no other place where that’s more obvious than Downtown Mt. Pleasant. So if the shopping bug has been buzzing around your ear, find the perfect place to keep him busy in Mt. Pleasant. Here, the options are not too big or too small: they’re just right.
