Technology plays a crucial role in all industries, and the healthcare industry is no exception. Advancements in the medical industry enable physicians to diagnose and treat patients more efficiently and innovative medical devices have saved countless lives. The continuous development of technology range from diverse methods of treatment offered to the patients to various types of software and techniques used to provide medical transcription services to physicians. Technological advancements such as EHR, medical apps, virtual healthcare facility, nano medicine, robot-assisted operations etc make the lives of both patients and healthcare providers easier and better. Technological advancements ensure more efficient patient care, improved public health, and ease of workflow in medical practices, hospitals and other health systems. One of the technological breakthroughs is CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats), an emerging gene-editing technique that can ultimately be used for a range of functions from developing disease-resistant crops to wiping out illnesses. In 2012, a team led by Jennifer Doudna at the University of California at Berkeley demonstrated that CRISPR, along with Cas9, an associated protein, could be used to edit genes much more accurately and more cost-effectively than anything anyone had ever seen before. By 2018, CRISPR became a standard tool in the genomic toolbox. The start-up company Mammoth wants to use CRISPR to simplify diagnostics – to ensure that diagnostic tests can be done quickly and accurately. This company is developing technology that could even allow patients to check themselves for serious diseases. The CEO of the company Trevor Martin says since much of the attention has been in the area of therapeutics, they would focus on diagnostics. The company is working in collaboration with Doudna and several of her colleagues. The start-up secured a spot in an accelerator program run by early stage investor NFX Venture Capital, which also provided $3 million in seed money. According to Mammoth, its developing technology uses urine or saliva to instantly diagnose diseases such as HPV and malaria. With CRISPR proteins the company can develop tests that can detect a virus genetic code in human’s cell. If the disease is present in the body, then the sample liquid will change in colour. Mammoth is focusing on integrating its product into existing labs and hospital tests to make the test results faster and more accurate. The company aims at developing a consumer kit that would allow anyone to take the test at home. Developing a kit is not an easy task and it will take years to reach there. Mammoth will need to continue developing and refining its technology to make it scalable and simple enough to use at home. It also has to earn approval from the FDA. Today Mammoth has the best CRISPR team but that is not enough, it also needs a commercialization team to develop the diagnostic product. Even though the company is starting with diagnostics, Martin does not rule out the possibility that the company may pursue come of CRISPR’s other potential uses like therapies and gene editing. The company’s objective is to create products that improve people's quality of life and push the boundaries of CRISPR, seeing what is possible at the absolute limit.

The medical industry is exploring the latest possibilities in healthcare technology and assessing how these innovations could help treat people more efficiently, make patients’ lives easier and save valuable human lives. Technology has also changed the traditional method of medical transcription. Today, EHR-integrated medical transcription service is the norm. Outsourcing medical transcription is a very convenient option for healthcare providers who are keen on spending more time with their patients and lesser time on EHR documentation.
