150 Years of Brotherhood 150th
This Spring marks our chapter’s anniversary at Miami University with our founding in March and our chartering on May 13th. Throughout the first half of the year, there are two opportunities for alumni to visit campus:
Undergrad Chapter News Meet the newly elected brothers that will be leading the undergraduate chapter in 2018, the new pledge class and hear about some of their travels.

Chapter Fundraising Update
The first event is Spring Puddle Pull, which will be held on May 5th. The spring event is the introduction for undergraduates who have not participated before and is co-hosted with Phi Mu. The event also raises money for the Global Service Initiative. If your company is interested in sponsoring the event, please contact Evan Helchen (helcheet@miamioh.edu). This is an excellent opportunity to interact with the undergraduate chapter and participate in one of our favorite traditions.

The Spring 2018 Pledge Class
On February 4th, we welcomed 20 new associate members to our chapter. Our new members continue to come from across the country and have varied academic pursuits. This class also extends our goal to improve our overall academic ranking with a class GPA of 3.4. This class is now undergoing an 8-week program to learn about the chapter and start the process to becoming better men. As we know, the week of rush is just the culmination of a semester’s work by the chapter to recruit new members. The alumni board would like to recognize and congratulate our out-going Vice President of Recruitment Anthony Ferritto. Additionally, we would like to thank our board president Kevin Malof ‘90, and our Chapter Development Director Kelsey Morrissey for providing onsite guidance during rush week. On February 20th, the Miami Interfraternity Council along with President Crawford issued a letter to all fraternities as a result of multiple reports on hazing within the first two weeks of the pledging process. Delta Upsilon was not a part of any of these allegations, however the letter did include a directive that all new members must be initiated by Friday, February 23 rd, and we initiated all 20 new brothers on the 22nd. The alumni board would like to recognize and thank Mark Macechko ’01 for acting as our alumni representative at initiation. The new members, and other chapters not involved with these allegations, will still be able to participate in activities like; philanthropy events, parent weekends, and intramurals sports.
Winter Term 2018 Starting in 2014, Miami University became the first public university to offer a Winter Term which gives students the opportunity to take an additional course or participate in an abbreviated study aboard program that they may not otherwise be able to do.
This January a number of our undergraduates took advantage of this opportunity, including Jared Marsh (left), our new chapter president, and Teddy Buck (right). Jared studied aboard in Argentina and Chile, taking courses in supply chain and information systems. Teddy was able to participate in a Birthright-Israel trip

400 East Vine Club The 400 East Vine Club is designed to fund activities and projects for the Chapter House that benefit the undergraduates. For 2018, the alumni board would like to solicit donations to install new flooring on the second and third floors. Donations to the 400 East Vine Club can be made by mailing a check to PO Box 54140, Cincinnati, OH 45254.
Chapter Housing Account The Miami Chapter Housing Account is the educational counterpart of the 400 East Vine Club related to the operating expenses of the house and is under the umbrella of the Delta Upsilon Educational Foundation (DUEF). Donations to this account are tax-deductible and eligible for company matches. This newly established fund allows for up to $32,000 per year of donated money to be spent on the education portion of our chapter house’s operating expenses. This includes expenses like our internet services which cost roughly $9,000 per year. For the first year of this initiative, we have set a fundraising goal of $20,000. By supplementing the operating expenses of the chapter house with donations, the housing corporation will be able to keep rent down and make regular improvements more efficiently, as well as accelerate the payoff of our mortgage which is currently at $854,810. In recent years, university administrations increased their efforts to discipline chapters with extended suspensions and closures. While the Miami Chapter of Delta Upsilon has represented itself and the Greek community well over time and never had its charter revoked or suspended, the Miami Chapter Alumni Board wants to ensure that even if such an unanticipated temporary charter suspension or revocation event ever occurs, our chapter house will be protected and remain part of Delta Upsilon and the Miami campus for future generations of brothers. Chapter Educational Account The Miami Chapter Educational Account is the educational counterpart of the 400 East Vine Club related to undergraduate activities and is under the umbrella of the DUEF. Donations to this account are tax-deductible and eligible for company matches. This money is restricted to educational purposes such as individual scholarships or registration and travel expenses related to educational programs. In 2018, our goal is to raise $2,000 to cover reimbursements for undergraduates to travel and attend programs like the President’s Academy and Leadership Institute. For more information, visit: https://www.deltau.org/chapter-educational-accounts
Chapter Legacy Plan The Miami Chapter Legacy Plan is a DUEF endowment fundraising initiative that helps cover registration costs for more men from the chapter to attend national DU educational programs. Once fully funded, the Miami Chapter Legacy Plan will be able to fund 12 scholarships to national educational programs. Previously, the money for these leadership programs came from either the CEA or the 400 East Vine Club and had to be replenished yearly. CHAPTER LEGACY PLAN ……………… ........................................ $50K $70K • Eight scholarships to the Regional Leadership Academy (RLA) - Complete • One scholarship to Delta Upsilon Emerging Leaders (DUEL) – In-Progress • Two scholarships to the Global Service Initiative (GSI) • One additional scholarship to Leadership Institute (LI)
$150K
Since the August 2017 newsletter, we have received additional donations that have brought our total fundraising to over $50,000. In particular, we would like to thank Brother Thomas Stallkamp ‘68 for helping us get over the mark. As a result of this generous giving, starting next fall, the number of scholarships to attend the regional leadership academy will double from four to eight. The next endowment threshold is at $70,000 and will enable one newly initiated member to attend the Delta Upsilon Emerging Leaders experience (DUEL). DUEL provides an opportunity to visit Williams College, our founding location, and encourages brothers to create a deeper and broader definition of who they are and where they can have an impact. Until the Chapter Legacy Plan is fully funded, the alumni board will continue to reimburse undergraduates as they attend these programs. For more information, visit: https://www.deltau.org/chapter-legacy-plan
Setting Up a Recurring Donation A convenient way to support Delta Upsilon is through a recurring gift. You can quickly and safely set up your credit card to automatically deduct a specified amount monthly to any of our fundraising initiatives. A recurring gift may allow you to contribute more significantly than might otherwise be possible with a one-time donation. For more information, contact Andrew Cramer ‘12, mudeltau@gmail.com or Meghan Bender - International Development Director at bender@deltau.org or 317-875-8900
Leadership Institute 2018 Leadership Institute is Delta Upsilon’s annual Fraternity convention and the highlight of our educational calendar. LI not only the largest gathering of our brothers, but it is also where official business of the Fraternity is conducted. At LI, undergraduate and alumni members both participate a program that includes legislative meetings, province meetings, a Fraternity update and educational sessions. The 2018 Leadership Institute will be held at the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn in Scottsdale, Arizona from July 26 th to the 29th. Alumni are always welcome to attend, and registration will start in March.
