Renovation and Rededication Since the completion of the 2006 renovation, one part has remained unfinished. However on October 23rd, the final part of the renovation was completed as the chapter rededicated the chapter room to Mr. Frank Dodd. This final step was made possible through the efforts of the new Housing Corporation and several generous donors. The design of the room is virtually unchanged in order to help preserve the many memories that generations of brothers have had. As a part of the renovation, new floors, walls, display cases, furniture, and chandeliers were put in to truly create a more formalized room. Picture of the room and the ceremony can be seen through the Miami University Alumni Chapter Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Delta-Upsilon-AlumniChapter-Miami-University/435029950435?ref=ts

Brotherhood Events

This fall our brotherhood has continued to grow through many events. We have continued to show our support for Miami by going to the Miami football games, 2010 MAC Champions, basketball games, and several hockey games. These programs have been extremely successful this year and DU was there. Also over Fall Break several of our brothers took a trip up to Columbus to see the Blue Jackets play the Blackhawks, pictured below. Besides sporting events, we also were able to celebrate Thanksgiving as a chapter. This event, which featured 10 turkeys, not only served as a great brotherhood event, but also as a recruitment event. Overall it was a great opportunity to eat and hopefully bring some new brothers into our chapter.

Puddle Pull Champions

In 2009, Delta Upsilon came up just short in Greek Week Puddle Pull when we lost in the semi-finals to Theta Chi. In 2010, five members of the rope returned along with our caller Alex Friedman ’11. Through much hard work and four weeks of practice we formed the team you see above. Still not the biggest team in the field, we revenged our loss to Theta Chi in the championship. The win came literally in the last seconds of the threeminute pull, which went back and forth with each hit. To get to the finals, our team also had to defeated Sigma Phi Epsilon, Phi Delta Theta, and FIJI. On the sorority side, Alpha Gamma Delta was able to prevail over Alpha Omicron Pi.

President’s Letter As the semester winds down to a close I thought it would be appropriate to mention the successes we have had as a chapter this semester and to discuss the overall state of the fraternity. This year we have had an event to honor Brother Philip R. Shriver and an event to honor Brother Frank Dodd. Both men have made numerous contributions to the chapter here at Miami and to the university as a whole. We were very excited at the opportunity to invite them back to the house for their respective events. I wish I could say that the amount of respect they have for the Greek system is shared by the current administration but that would be a fallacy. Unfortunately, based on new university policies we were forced to indefinitely postpone our annual “Indian Party.” Though the event was not going to take place at the chapter house a new university policy gives Miami the authority to regulate all parties associated with Greek organizations regardless of where they take place. The university took issue with the theme of the party even though they still acknowledge and celebrate our Redskin traditions. On a brighter note, however, DU won Puddle Pull for the first time in 10 years! It was truly a remarkable victory considering the team was considerably smaller than their opponents in the final pull. If anyone would like to watch the final pull there is a link on the front page of our website for it (http://www.mudeltau.org). We are looking forward to the rush process and we seem to have strong interest in our fraternity after having recruitment events that included dinners uptown. The brothers are all looking forward to the upcoming semester as we look to build of the successes of this previous semester.
