Behind the Couture | Spring 2014’s Juicy Riders
Chairman’s Message A Pot no more I have often heard that Dubai is a “melting pot” of different cultures, and we all know that melting means different elements heated and mixed to produce something that may taste and look different than the elements that it contains. This, in my opinion, is not exactly correct for the U.A.E. and in particular, Dubai; it’s not 100% correct. The wonderful thing about Dubai is that different elements (cultures), although mixing well, have got to keep their identities i.e., their identity and ethnic designs and tastes, whether it is in art work or cuisines or smells, etc. and everyone respects and appreciates their contribution. That is what makes the U.A.E and Dubai such a wonderful mix of talents, where all people feel at home.

Starch Foundation
Timi Hayek: The collection consisted mainly of tops, skirts and dresses. The SS14 collection was all about comfort, which is for women who adore fashion with a chic and modern touch. The combo of stripes, pleats and prints were the ultimate way to dazzle the daily fashion scene. The monochromatic elegance along with ivory panache and fresh navy aura flaunted well with the hints of sheer fabric. The hand drawn digital prints in this collection are inspired by L’Apres midi d’un Faune, a 1912 dance performance by Les Ballets Russes, where the legendary Vaslav Nijinsky plays the role of a young faun who pursues a group of forest nymphs.
Jo Baaklini: Atelier Jo Baaklini’s unveiled his collection which featured strong colours and graphic prints on clean and classic cuts. Inspired by spring and summer in the warm climes of the Levant and Gulf, it is fun, fresh and with an element of attention to detail. The debut was utterly a bang!

Kage
Pictures by Ian Gavan, Stuart Wilson. Getty Images.
Kage’s show was a small journey to the 80’s. Their inspiration was their own ardent attachment to a scene from 1983 New Year’s Eve Party. The collection stays true and obedient to the KAGE girl – a girl who loves freely and reflects a free spirit. She is un-KAGED and the energy is spectacular with timeless elegance.

Bashar Assaf After a huge success with Starch Foundation, Bashra Assaf was ready to amaze the spectators with his solo debut collection – inspired by apex and peaks. The aesthetic of the Fall 2014 assembly was a result of the revision of the diverse phases of love. Crape, jacquard, felt, wool, different silks and cottons were used with four visual prints. All four prints were portraying a stage of love. Strong and ravishing hues like Burgundy, forest green and navy blue added the glare to the flair.

Said Mahrouf Said Mahrouf – a new name amongst FFWD designers. Said is well-known for his sophistication and minimalistic slant to fashion. His collection was graceful and smooth. Charmingly draped dresses and elegantly flowing pant suits were personified with sheer panache. ‘My designs are always feminine but quite minimalistic at the same time, that’s my signature style. The lines are clean, yet flowing. To manifest this I wanted to use a neutral pallet and show the natural fluency of the fabric.’

JLS
Jean Louis Sabaji’s assortment was inspired by nature. JLS transmuted his gowns into an orchard of exquisite and unique blooms – a magical fusion of flowers and insects. With spring time, the life is renewed by vibrantly blossoming, flushed colours and silky touch. Handcrafted techniques were used to emulate the verdure. The insignia was enthused by Mother Nature from raspberry to dainty rosy, buttery yellow to orange and white to beige.
There is an interaction of all elements from the smallest insects to the rarest flowers. Branches were braided on the dresses from one side, and blooming into flowers on the other. The usage of fabric was the most interesting prospect of the collection as they were light as petals, garnished with 3D floral appliqués, insects and fruitlets - created a sense of movement, echoed in the swinging volumes of the gowns.

Asudari This collection features elements of masculine tailoring with sporty and feminine silhouettes – sharp suiting, geometric digital prints and Asudari’s signature emblem, the formation of four interfacing A’s all in a Delftware ceramic palette.

Taller Marmo For this Fall 2014 collection, Taller Marmo focuses on its signature sleek silhouette and strengthens its approach to the evening wear. Thinking about the empowerment of today’s Arab woman, the brand introduced a more rigorous side juxtaposing it with feminine and subtly sensual details. The new collection featured a selection of column dresses and skirts with parts of fabric not sewn together to give a more sensuous vibe; while other dresses are closed up with bows fashioning frisky volumes. The designers were encouraged by action movies, in which these alpha women are determined with the ultimate fashion taste. The choices of the fabrics i.e., a liquid-metal-like techno duchesse, were sturdy and a robust visual treat.

Arwa Alammari – Grazia Emerging Designer Arwa Alammari’s newest collection ‘Tea Time at ArAm’ is inspired by traditional English tea parties, flavoured with a hint of the 50s and 60s styles and all the magic of wonderland tales.
“My designs are for the woman who wants to look unique and be a head turner whenever she walks in a crowd. For these women, I’m introducing my art pieces which are breath-taking in terms of edges and colour combinations,” said Alammari.

Tahir Sultan
Another spectacular fashion fiesta was celebrated by Kuwaiti/Indian designer Tahir Sultan. He was at his best this season. This season, the collection was all about feeling comfortable with in your style. With jersey as his dominant fabric he created some magnificent pieces. With the shades of greys, whites and blacks Tahir narrated that his epicene collection was all about ease and amenity.

Zayan the Label
Zayan Ghandour’s AW14 collection was a story of a “pretty woman” from 1990 classics. With many of the pieces directly referencing outfits worn by Julia Roberts in the film and, of course, “I want the Fairytale” being one of her famous quotes. But this was not an ordinary fairy-tale. The Zayan Label girl is an apostate princess, marching towards her own destiny. The collection’s fabrics are custom designed around the theme: Love Words embroidered lace, sweats with sheer panelling, and themed patches, puff lace in pastel pink as well as a structured airtex neoprene story in lilac, navy and black. The collection also features a unique Toile de Joie print with fairy-tale motifs. The birds, ribboned bows and crocodiles also inspired a series of patches including Miss Croc, the season’s signature character. The bomber jackets story is inspired by Julia Robert’s best friend, Kit. Fashion | Eveningz | 44

Frosted Fashion By Ezra
49 | Eveningz | Fashion
No other heart can warm my love … The Ezra couture has always been a cherishing elegance with warmth of luxe and feminity. The immortality of love has been the key element of Ezra’s dresses since forever. For over decades, Dubai-based Philipino designer is spreading love and relishing women’s dream of fairy tales gowns and dreamy garbs. His designs are known for their buoyant, diaphanous and exquisite edge, with finely crafted embellishments. The inspiration is drawn from celebrated French designer Erte, Christian Lacroix, John Galliano as well as the original Monsieur Christian Dior. Silk floor length gowns, delicate embroideries with sturdy neck line piece showed the vision of Ezra woman – she is beautiful, delicate and powerful. She can walk down the town and astonish the world with her soft and exquisite charm, yet she can captivate the onlookers with her dazzlingly strong attributes of splendour.
A series of snowy bleached artifice not only mystified the runway but the magical evening was glorified when it actually started to snow right in the middle of Hall1. The frosted romance was glorified by the entrance of Snow Princess – who looked blissful, gorgeous and her smile was impervious of the love she found!
“No other love can warm my heart Now that I’ve known the comfort of your arms No other love, oh the sweet contentment That I find with you everytime, everytime”

Blow! By Essa
51 | Eveningz | Fashion
“Whenever I have a collection to do, I don’t have a woman in mind, but a mood and a personality. If I have to describe her, it would be a girl who has a lot of fun, is daring and adventurous. She is not afraid of colour or bold statements. She has an effervescent personality and an incredible sense of humour. Her sense of romanticism is a little askew from the classic sense of the word. In this collection, the mixing of furs, faux and real with every possible fabric and playing with colour was really my playground.” Essa’s show was a strong portrayal of his classic woman. Essa thinks beyond boundaries and that showed in his show. His style was different yet a perfect mixture of different cultures and mediums. The usage of various glamorized hues with furs and lace is unique and matchless. The fur and faux pull overs, has been noticed and marked as an essentials for winters 2014, for sure! His collection is a challenge with in its own self, this collection is an essence for those who are daring enough to take the challenges and live to standout.

Rami’s Enchanted Land! Blossoming, magical and the fairy tales unveiled on the ramp.
53 | Eveningz | Fashion
Rami’s Collection was undoubtedly, the mesmerizing one. The Flower princess’s walked down the ramp with a mishmash of bright and soft colours. Rami’s collection was a mystifying story within itself which redefined magical elegance. “Le Royaume Enchanté”, Rami Kadi’s latest collection unfolded within the pages of a fairy-tale, and is inspired by story of a sleeping beauty that wakes up from an ever long sleep and finds herself within the confines of a sumptuous castle. After a short animated video of Rami’s magical world, the pink blossomy princess came out with a bunch of real roses adorned headpiece, showing the bold contours of her body – glorifying the hall. Ball gown with heavy whimsical embellishments refined the standards of sensuality and exquisiteness. The perfection was the usage of new and novel fabrics i.e. Tulle, Silk Crepe, Organza, Mikado and Lace were beautifully harmonized into vivid volumes and polished silhouettes
The pastels gowns were sugary sumptuous wobbling along with enormous floral head pieces which portrayed the love of women to her- own self. It was indeed breath-taking of glee to watch the royal princess to walk down – all wrapped up in pastel panache hypnotizing the audience with her flowery magic. Rami’s gowns are absolutely breath takers but he also showcased cocktail dresses, crop tops and vibrant pattern-heavy skirts. His collection was limitless and beyond boundaries – from the textures to the fabric; the juvenile was ravishing.
“Magic happens when you believe in yourself.” Lastly, with pin drop silence and in the spotlight, comes the Rami’s ultimate bride of the evening wearing bleached ball gown with twinkling tiara and long tulle of veil which is every girl’s dream! With fine and neat superfluities was one story all together. Rami’s collection was nonetheless reverie spread-out within Hall 1 of Madinat Arena.

Zareena
55 | Eveningz | Fashion
Zareena’s main theme is abstract shapes and lines that become works of art when combined and placed on the designs in an artistic manner. Zareena’s sense of placement and choice of colors are marks of her brand that any enthusiast would recognize. Zareena does not like to confine herself to certain colors; therefore, within any of her collections you will see a wide range of daring color combinations. The fabrics are always having the sense of flow and femininity in them. She uses natural fabrics for her collections. Following the theme, Zareena has three groups of designs within the collection, the whites, which portray nature’s beauty personified in flower formations, the abstract formations with its cornucopia of colors, and the golds, nature’s ultimate precious belonging.

Melancholious – colours By Amato
57 | Eveningz | Fashion
From Fashion circus to Fashion Geisha to Melodic Colour outburst, Amato has been a standout in his own way! Celebrated designer has shown his diversity in every possible in these three seasons – But this time it was just Wonderful! One harmonious, vibrant and larger-than-life night, it was. The sound of chimes with a voice singing the specific tarz was a delight to ears to the real music lovers. Models decked up in dresses made of gaudy hues of azure, indigo, yellow, emerald and inflamed ruby red with find embellishments of crystals and stones were the spoton indulgence. The fabrics used were French lace and tulle in jewel colours embroidered with exquisitely alluring crystals and sequins. The inspiration was drawn from Alexander the Great – his travels and his conquests in Asia Minor – Persia, India and Egypt. Beyond all levels of imaginations, Amato made her models to wear headpieces of Maharaja Style which looked dreadfully stunning as it showed the pain to look beautiful in those mughlia Era’s when the competition was to look enigmatic as Cleopatra. These headpieces were made of flower appliques, crystals, chains. The drama filled ramp portrayed the attention to detail element. All in all the show was incredible.

Colours used across the collection were Blue, green, brown, grey and white. The extremely-well stitched pieces focused on complimenting the male body, while adding a touch of patterned designs and hues that added just the right amount of elegance. Well, if men pay little heed cufflinks can be the most interesting part of men’s garb, only if worn correctly. Cufflinks emerged as a fashionable male accessory in the1600’s and they did not become common until the end of the 18th century. Cufflinks are two- metal pieces which are used to fasten the two sides of a shirt cuffs. They were popular among the high-class men, nobles and men of royalty. They are worn usually with the French-cuff shirts or the single-length cuff shirts. They have long been regarded as the gentlemen’s ultimate signature style. Through time, the fashion of cufflinks evolved, adapting the demands of modern man. Today, cufflinks are artfully designed by various designers from around the world using different materials and colours transforming these into small eye-catching art pieces - which you can proudly wear on the cuffs of your elegant shirts. There is a wide array of incredibly trendy cufflinks in styles, designs, colours and materials. Men’s high summer grooming tips. When the temperature rises, it often brings a certain set of completely new grooming problems. This article suggests on how you should adapt to the weather so you can continue to feel and look good.
1. The Sole Saver: Micro Pedi Man Hard skin doesn’t just make heels look horrendous; if it gets soggy with sweat it becomes a breeding ground for fungi too. You can remove it with a traditional foot file but using a gadget like the Micro Pedi Man is infinitely more fun. A bit like an electric sander for your feet, its abrasive mineral roller rotates at thirty times a second to remove even the hardest of skin, ensuing your heels are polished to perfection.
2. The Celebrity Fragrance: Gold Jay Z Very few male celebrities have successfully launched fragrances for their fellow man. Cynical bunch that we are, we men seem rather less inclined to buy into the whole notion that wearing a celebrity fragrance gives us a little of their celebrity glamour. Few men are truly famous enough and likeable enough to pull it off – but if anyone can do it, it’s Jay Z. His first foray into men’s fragrance, however, is a bit of a mixed affair.
to be on the sensitive side. This clever shaver aims to take the heat out of shaving – in a very real sense – with the help of ThermoElectric-Cooling Technology, which is designed to cool the skin as it shaves.
4. The eye Revitalizer- Shiseido With some of the most delicate skin on the body, eyes are naturally one of the first areas to show signs of fatigue and premature ageing. No wonder, then, that they need a little extra TLC when it comes to skincare. Regular moisturizers are often too heavy for the eye area so a dedicated eye cream or gel is essential. This brand new one from Shiseido, available from the end of May, answers all your ocular needs. As well as hydrating and firming skin around the eye area it also contains a raft of ingredients designed to stimulate collagen production.
5. Lip balms
3. The Skin-Friendly Shaver: Braun Cool Tec Shave
A lip balm is one of those little essentials that men often forget to pack in their grooming armoury, which is ironic given how useful they can be.
For many men the convenience of an electric shaver is an irresistible draw, but electric shaving isn’t without its drawbacks. One of the main problems is that as the blades go to work they tend to generate heat, and heat isn’t great news for skin – particularly if yours tends
Without any oil glands or protective melanin, lips are especially vulnerable to chapping, cracking and even skin cancer.

While the core elements of yogic programs are similar across every Six Senses Spa, they will be delivered in the individual spa’s unique location and enhanced with a dash of local charm to deliver optimum results. Discover Yoga is ideal for novices and guests wishing to try a new form of body and mind exercise. The main goal is to develop an understanding of how the body engages in each posture while the yoga master guides one’s awareness to specific areas and aspects of the practice to enhance the body’s natural intuition. Stress release, improved flexibility plus a stronger and more powerful body are additional benefits guests can expect from the program. Hatha yoga practiced during the stay focuses on gentle moves with a minimum and effortless flow between each pose. Private Sessions of guided meditation and breathing exercise called pranayama (breathing) will help regulate the pace of breath, relax and maintain the steadiness of the body, leading to clearer mind and better coordination during yoga practice. A selection of Six Senses signature massages and energy treatments has been included in the program to enhance the results.
Yogic Detox is suitable for more experienced yoga practitioners looking to cleanse the body and mind in a non-invasive way. It draws upon different hatha yoga cleansing techniques including sat kriya (movement and breath exercise) yogic intestinal wash, forceful exhalation breathing and candle flame meditation to cleanse the internal organs and achieve harmony between the major pranic flows. Aspects of hatha yoga postures known as asanas and more advanced practices of pranayama and meditation are incorporated along with detox treatments to offer a profound experience. Each element of this program is introduced and based on a personalized assessment and guest’s condition. Launching later this year, Yogic Sleep will focus on yoga nidra, an ancient practice intended to induce full body relaxation and a deep meditative state of consciousness. This, combined with guided meditation, breathing techniques and relaxing spa treatments, leads to improved sleep and a very deep quality of relaxation. Six Senses Spa Yogic Programs are now available at Six Senses Zighy Bay, Six Senses Laamu, Six Senses Ninh Van Bay, Six Senses Con Dao, Six Senses Yao Noi and Six Senses Samui as well as partner Six Senses spas at Soneva Kiri in Thailand, Soneva Fushi in the Maldives, Porto Elounda Golf & Spa Resort in Greece, Penha Longa Resort in Portugal, Puntacana Resort & Club in the Dominican Republic, Jaypee Greens Golf Resort & Spa in India, Sharq Village & Spa in Qatar, Missoni Hotel in Kuwait and the Pacific City Club in Bangkok.

Blue Book by Tiffany
Tiffany & Co. presents a preview of The Blue Book featuring jewels or rare and colourful gemstones.
99 | Eveningz | Connoisseur
Tiffany’s 2014 Blue Book unwrapped with all the colour and energy of spring’s dramatic awakening. The magic unfolds with the rarest gemstones formed by earth and fire. These miracles of indescribable beauty are celebrated in designs as diverse and exuberant as nature itself. Blue Book proclaims them the world’s most magnificent jewels, eagerly awaited by collectors and connoisseurs.
Connoisseur | Eveningz | 100
Gemstones were key to Tiffany’s rise to prominence from its founding in New York City to the international renown it enjoys today. Throughout its 177-year history, Tiffany dispatched gemologists to search the globe for the most extraordinary stones. Blue Book is the supreme showcase for these legendary gems. With a power and poetry all their own, they write the next chapter of Tiffany’s illustrious heritage, bursting forth in the ultimate jewels of glamour and style. Many are inspired by designs from the Tiffany Archives—and all are handcrafted by masters of the jeweler’s art. Blue Book honors Tiffany’s reputation for the world’s most beautiful diamonds, exemplars of color and clarity and cut to captivate with a pure brilliance. Among these coveted creations are an astonishing 12.45-carat diamond ring and a necklace that transforms sleek 1930s glamour into rivers of marquise diamonds that twist and swirl apart in streams of sparkling rose-cut diamonds.
101 | Eveningz | Connoisseur
The collection’s colorful spectrum is richly symbolic of the gemstones that Tiffany introduced throughout its history. Blue Book affirms this zest for discovery with a wealth of gems that ignite nature’s most incandescent hues, the colors of sky and sea, and the blush of dawn. Tiffany designers combine these gems in fantastic ways. Fancy pink, blue and yellow sapphires blossom on platinum vines that adorn the neckline as if dancing in a gentle breeze. Following the pointillist paintings of French PostImpressionist artist Georges Seurat, a pendant of purple and pink sapphires captures the delicacy of flowers; and earrings of blue sapphires, green garnets and tourmalines trace the dragonfly’s iridescent wings. Tiffany designers utilize 18 karat gold to highlight the harmony of red-orange fire opals, yellow diamonds and pink tourmalines in jewels based on archival designs from the early 20th century. An elegant openwork bracelet and a medallion pendant blaze brighter with the warmth of this precious metal, reflecting the opulence of a golden era. Altogether the 2014 Blue Book is boundless in imagination and rich with the passion and dedication that forged the great tradition of Tiffany & Co. Tiffany & Co. operates jewelry stores and manufactures products through its subsidiary corporations. Its principal subsidiary is Tiffany and Company. The Company operates TIFFANY & CO. retail stores and boutiques in the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Japan, Europe and the United Arab Emirates and engages in direct selling through Internet, catalogue and business gift operations. “Of mastery and time” Hermes presents the latest collection, “of mastery and time” in Dubai mall.
103 | Eveningz | Connoisseur
La Montre Hermès hosted ‘Of Mastery and Time’, a special horological exhibition in The Dubai Mall from 17-22 April 2014. The exhibition displayed some of the Maison’s unique timepieces within an extra-ordinary setting that plays with time and offered visitors a captivating insight into Hermès’ savoir faire in Haute Horlogerie. On display was the Arceau Lift, the first Hermès flying tourbillon watch, inspired by the historical premises of Hermès at 24, Rue du Faubourg SaintHonoré in Paris. The double H topping the tourbillon carriage and the barrel bridge of the Arceau Lift reproduces one of the emblematic motifs featured in the interior design of the boutique, above the door of the Lift after which it is named. Limited to 176 pieces, the watch is driven by Calibre H1923 visible from the dial side and is also revealed through an opening carved out in the back of the gold case. Another highlight is the Arceau Millefiori, an unusual encounter between watchmaking and glassmaking. Beating to the tune of in-house created mechanical calibres, 19th century paperweights, crafted by the Cristalleries royales De Saint-Louis, inspire the pieces. The ‘millefiori’ motif (a combination of Italian words meaning ‘a thousand flowers’) is created through a long and complex glassmaking process, with intricate patterns and a unique floral beauty. ‘Of Mastery and Time’ also featured the Pendentif Boule, the Heure H with baguette diamonds and the Cape Cod in gold also set with baguette diamonds, amongst others. The remarkable timepieces are inspired by the imagination of the Hermès universe, embodying an extra ordinary level of artisanal innovation and the know-how of the Maison in creating high quality items

Fashion Talk!
In conversation with Meher – an ultimate fashionistic – talented lady.
109 | Eveningz | Business Buzz
Palmongroup was established in 1985, in Jebel Ali Freezone and her father, Manohar Lahori set up the first manufacturing unit within the Freezone. Over the years Palmon Group has produced apparel for stores such as GAP, BHS and Debenhams. Eveningz Team got a chance to exchange some thoughts with the Managing director, an influential woman with amazing fashion sense not only for her wardrobe but she has a diverse style vision for her business.
5 mins with Meher Mirchandani. Your Passion? All things fashion. I am passionate about designing and enjoy the challenges associated with adapting silhouettes and designs to various cultures. I guess I have inherited this from my father. I started Meher & Riddhima in 2002 with my childhood friend Riddhima and it has been the most gratifying experience of my life.
Your inspiration? My partner and I have always been interested in creative arts, and this led us to studying fashion at university. It was during our first year of university that we started talking about our vision of creating a global brand.
The Ultimate Challenge? One of my greatest obstacles has been the challenge to create global mass market appeal for our brand Meher and Riddhima as consumers still gravitate towards European brands for cocktail and evening wear. Life is a constant learning curve, and our foray into the US market - and the adaptation required has been a steep learning curve. I haven’t set a benchmark of success yet...the best is yet to come!
Greatest Achievement? The successful launch of Meher & Riddhima and every day feeling challenged and excited to take the brand to the next level has been a memorable time!
Perfect Dubai – Why? Dubai is a phenomenal market, it’s a growing market with a cosmopolitan community. There are people from all parts of the world and all walks of life and such a growing market - with exposure to Europe, North America and Asia is the best platform any brand can hope for. I am proud of living and working in Dubai.
Dubai’s Different Style? I believe people in Dubai embrace their individuality. Although the design and fashion sensibility is slightly decadent and luxe it clearly validates the positioning of Dubai. Modern and luxe - Dubai enjoys the finer things in life!
Your Advice? Believe in yourself and always persevere! Dubai has a lot to offer and your talent and passion will not go unnoticed here.
An inspirational Quote? I am not sure who this quote is by but it has always had an impact on me: “Your Life is Your Message to the World. Make Sure it is Inspiring.”

Sikka Art Fair is an annual showcase of Emirati and Dubai based artistic talent designed to feature UAE contemporary art practices and initiatives, through a diversity of artistic talent and stance, providing opportunity to experience homegrown creativity at its liveliest and best, in the heart of Dubai. Sikka draws its name from the alleyways between the historic houses of Dubai, and serves as a metaphor that befits the young and upcoming artists who seek to establish their creative and professional paths through their participation in the fair. Originally focused on visual arts, Sikka Art Fair has now widened its scope to cover performing arts, film, and music. Dubai’s Vintage affair. A perfect destination for bargain hunters and yard sellers.
Is your house turning into a museum of sorts, with everything from old, unused gadgets, gaming consoles and artifacts, to incalculable number of shoes, bags, hats and clothes, hogging space, with a promise of being used some day, but remaining covered in dust, messing up your mind? Fret not. There’s an uncomplicated way to convert trash into cash. Yes, de-cluttering has never been this easy, and rewarding.

And chances are, if you succeed in finding your junk a new home, you’d profit from a cleaner home, while ringing in the cash register. It’s unbelievable, really! For bargains, design classics and retro kitsch, the best hunting grounds are vintage and antiques fairs. This concept is recently new to Dubai and Safa Park recently hosted one. Organic Food Healthy or Trendy?
127 | Eveningz | Lifestyle
What is organic food? Food that does not involve any synthetic inputs of farming which mostly includes harmful chemicals. It is a type of agriculture that relies strictly on manure, compost and crop rotation. As someone who grows their own food (organic gardening), it makes me extremely delighted to see Dubai warming up to organic food. Although to me, it seems like more of a status symbol or a trend but it’s one that everyone should learn to follow. For some of us, it’s a way of life, taking us back to our original roots of farming and gardening, one that seemed to be dying from an overdosage of hormones, injections and chemicals until recently. Even though organic food costs a little more than conventional food, the benefits to the former are innumerable.
Yet the question remains; Why go organic? First thing, it is free of chemicals. That’s right. Conventional farming uses harmful chemicals such as cancer-causing pesticides and insecticides, that can also badly affect your nervous system. Not only that, the conventional methods of farming also contribute to the contamination of our water supply, which means that if you do buy organic food, or support organic produce, or even grow your own organic garden for that matter, you will end up supporting a much cleaner and better water supply for all!
Lifestyle | Eveningz | 128
One more benefit of going organic is that organic meat is antibiotic and hormone free. As is the case with organic dairy. In my experience, the decision to go organic is sometimes on the sole account of the taste, some people simply prefer the taste without caring for the obvious health benefits. Others opt for it because of health concerns such as organic food not containing additives, contaminants and preservatives, all posing serious health threats.
129 | Eveningz | Lifestyle
Going organic does not always guarantee a perfect, healthy lifestyle, but it is the better option, at least for me. Because ever since I was a little girl, I was surrounded by a big beautiful garden. My parents have always been gardening enthusiasts, and I grew up watching them grow a big, beautiful green garden in the front yard. One of my fondest memories is excitedly joining my mother in picking tomatoes ripe enough to be used in cooking or fresh mint leaves for hot and cold drinks such as green tea or lemonades. In conclusion, I can see why some would think of it as a passing trend, but how often have trends been this good? This is food that is not only real, but also free of any unnecessary human inventions and harmful interventions. Once you’ve had the first taste of that delicious, juicy slice of organic tomato, you would never go back to conventional food. It’s nature’s perfection, and it’s delicious. The next step forward to thinking organic and going organic would be to grow organic.
