An affordable social housing for high, medium and low income residents for HUDCO (The Housing and Urban Development Corporation) Competition 2015.
LOCATION - CHENNAI, INDIA BACKGROUND -HUDCO DESIGN COMPETITION ‘15 ROLE -DESIGN (TEAM OF 4) DESIGN IDEAS ANALYSIS & RESEARCH SKETCHES
Why Flexibility in Housing Home is the center of one’s existence and a house is a lifetime investment. The involvement of the user can be considered as the democratization of housing.
Planar and Volumetric Flexibilty It is a response to the internal changes due to need for expansion during the lifetime of the occupant. If the housing prototype cannot adapt, then the users will have to move on, which is both socially and financially disruptive. 8

PLANS (HIG and MIG)
Modular Volumes Volumetric flexibility has been established by offering the clients different options in the arrangement of their modular volumes. They are also given an option of having a single-floor home for those who prefer having no staircases.
Modular Volumes Inverted T-Beams allow the introduction of utility distribution space above the ceiling and under the raised floors. Therefore ducts and piping pass over the beams without use of “sleeves to the main horizontal utility zones under exterior corridors. Extra space may be used for storage. 9
Customizable Spaces Between Levels It gives the user an advantage to decide the separation of his/her living space in terms of levels.
Future Expansion For growth and change of the structure -for the user -by the user -according to the user.

After a detailed analysis of Trichy, it is concluded that, the numbers of public interaction spaces are inadequate in ratio to the population density. Hence converting the under utilized areas into public spaces will enhance the levels of interaction in the city. Thereby providing a solution to a major problem that mst cities face. A commonly underutilized site is the space beneath a flyover. Such a space has a shading device already in existence. All that needs to be done is a simple intervention, which makes the space interesting and welcoming.
SITE - 1 - THENNUR FLYOVER Located in the heart of the city, this flyover connects two of the most popular locations of Trichy, namely Thillai Nagar and Chatiram
SITE - 2 - MANNARPURAM FLYPASS This is a freeway for large vehicles to pass Trichy without entering the city below. The area below is at the center of many important residential spaces in the city
SITE - 3 - PAALAKARAI FLYOVER This is an old flyover, that has for years been the connection between Cantonment and CChatiram area, which happen to be the most important commercial areas of the city

Redesign of an existing Sunday market. PONMALAI SHANDY (Ponmalai market) Total area: 8,872.44 m² (95,502.14 ft²) The majority of the neighborhood is occupied by Golden Rock Railway Workshop and its residential colonies for its employees. The site contains a huge number of trees which are well distributed throughout the site.
Design Evolution The market spaces are arranged around the existing trees in the site, a conscious decision to preserve the existing green spaces on the site. The trees provide natural shading for the seating spaces located around and under it. The marketplace snake around the existing landscape and adds character to the design.
