Make sure you understand the painter’s costs, the person who will perform the task and the skills possessed by the painter’s labor force is important. This book will help you to understand all these aspects. To provide the empty space for painting will mainly depend on the total painting schedule. The objective of this is to make optimum space for the primary work to be done. Primary work, such as, applying the primer and that the painting continues without further delay.

The Story Inside the House It doesn’t matter what ever color you choose to paint the exterior of your house! But what matters is the interior of the house! Special attention is required for the house’s interior because that is your actual world. Besides, each room is designated and use for a certain purpose. Can we think of the veranda and the kitchen in the same manner? At the same time, can we say that the living room and bedroom have the same purpose? Each room requires an individual color and for this you have to choose your color and other products accordingly. The task begins by choosing what color should be chosen for each wall. From the point of value and quality, there are four types of paints: Easy Clean Silk Emulsion, Plastic Emulsion, Luxury Silk Emulsion and Synthetic Polyvinyl Distemper. Generally, house owners choose their favorite color by keeping the costs, labor and time factors in their minds. So you selected your favorite color. Now is the time to think about the costs, what to buy and what price. Please bear this in mind while painting your house that you require at least two things – the paint and the primer. At times, a thinner may be necessary. To get the optimum result in painting your walls, you should use the suggested primer. Most wall paints are water based, so you just need to mix water to make the paint less dense. While making the budget, you should keep in mind the cost of all the other products (paint, primer, tools). This will account for half of the total expenditure. The remaining cost is for labor. Four steps are required to be followed and for every step, adequate time needs to be given for drying plaster that has been painted before, metallic objects and color of the wood. The first step which is the surface level preparation is very important in terms of its long lasting effect and smoothness. The surface level needs to be thoroughly cleaned from all types of dust and dirt. The previous layer of paint should be completely removed. Any surface level cracks should be repaired. The second step requires that primer and putty should be applied on the surface wall which was previously cleaned. A water based sealer should also be applied. In the third step, to bring about the smoothness, the sealer layered wall should be applied 2 coats of water based putty. The fourth and final step requires that the wall should be painted with two layers. It is necessary that adequate time should be given to dry the walls between the first and second layer of the paintings. During painting, please note that the rooms are open and have sufficient ventilation sources for the drying process.

Distemper If applied skillfully in the proper manner, Distemper can provide a high quality smooth finishing. Synthetic Polyvinyl Distemper: This Distemper is manufactured using special emulsion which provides higher smoothness. However, this paint cannot be washed. If properly maintained, this Distemper will preserve the beauty of the walls for 3 to 4 years. Know and avoid about these faults Moisture slack Humidity on the wall and roof occurs for many reasons. Before painting, it is very important to find out the reason for this humidity and take necessary actions to stop it. If required, consult with an expert. Because of this humidity, moss and fungus can appear on the walls. Remove all these moss and use an anti-fungus solution before painting. Swelling (due to salt effect/salinity) The wall can swell and fade out and become whitish. Whenever you see the whitish fade, you should immediately brush that area. You should repeatedly brush off all whitish fade areas. Before painting that specific area, you should use a sponge dipping into a muriatic acid solution of 5% to 10% and erase the whitish area. After this, use a damp stop for to avoid further damage. Layer peeling Because of humidity and the deterioration of the inner layer, at times the emulsion paint does not stick properly to the walls, which might cause lighting of the paint and peeling of the layer. Walls painted long before, may also incur peeling of the layer. The best thing to do is to completely remove the old paint off from the wall. After this, let the wall dry and apply primer on the surface layer. Allow adequate time for the primer to dry before applying paint. Humidity should be completely removed before the paint is applied.

Acrylic Emulsion This is generally known as the ‘plastic paint’. Acrylic emulsion based paints usually forms a thin smooth layer that sticks firmly to the wall and provides a long-lasting effect. A mixture of chemical ingredients in the emulsion helps the paint’s color to have an extraordinary smooth finishing which keeps it looking like new. Any dirt can be easily removed by slightly washing it and this also revives the brightness of the paint. It protects against any harmful elements present in the air or water. A special attribute of this paint is that it resists the growth of any moss or fungus on the walls. Emulsion paint is a modern paint which protects the city from any environmental pollution. Silk Emulsion: Premium Acrylic Emulsion provides a silky smooth and shiny effect on the walls. Due to the existence of high levels of acrylic resin, this paint has a long-lasting shiny and smooth effect that also resists the formation of any dust or dirt on the walls. Plastic Emulsion: The layers of plastic emulsion can be compared to that an egg’s shell, shiny and smooth. Plastic emulsion paint has many shades. This is also has a long-lasting effect like silk emulsion. Easy Clean: Manufactured from pure acrylic emulsion. This paint has special ingredients in which helps remove any stains incurred on the surface layer and keeps it shining like new.

Your Preparations for Protection/ Protective Methods The longevity of the room’s interior color depends on how secure the building’s exterior protection. The steel structure’s ability to withstand decay inside the concrete is also another important issue. There are two easy options. Low cost cement paint will give you three years of longevity and an average aesthetic view of the building. The other option is a costly emulsion – Weather Coat Smooth, which will give you 5-7 years of stability, wider coverage, aesthetic beauty and special protection against the environment. Apart from this, Elastomeric Emulsion Weather Coat Long-Life will give you 7 years of smooth brightness. Generally three kinds of emulsions can be found: (1) Weather Coat (2) Weather Coat Long-Life (3) Textured Emulsion – which can be used for both exterior and interior areas. Since the exterior wall is in direct contact with the weather, the preparation for the upper layer of the exterior wall is quite complicated. Moss, salinity and fungus tend to stick to the upper layer of the exterior wall. The traditional way of mixing lime with water is cheaper but not an option because it tends to wear out quickly. Buildings which have used the aforementioned technique for a long time should be cleaned and removed thoroughly before using cement paint or emulsion paint. It is advisable to take help from an architect if the exterior wall has any kind of major faults, high amounts of layer peeling, wide cracks or humidity. It is equally important to take professional advice to protect your roof, if required.

Cement Paint Cement paint provides effective protection against the harsh weather conditions. Since cement paint is formulated in a special manner, it can withstand any adverse weather conditions. This is one of the reasons why this paint helps to preserve the brightness of the exterior paint. Cement paint is available in different shades of matt finish. If you want longevity of your exterior paint for about 3 to 4 years, then it is important to fulfill all the essential requirements for the surface layer and then apply cement paint. Know about these faults. Avoid them Paint’s coating cracking Wrong methods of painting or any faults on the building may lead to cracks in the paint coatings. It is advisable to find the source and reason for these cracks and use proper techniques to resolve it before re-painting the surface layer. Moss and Fungus Practically, all walls are affected by moss or fungus. Due to humidity and less air flow it is natural that walls may be affected by fungus. Clean the fungus with a brush and if required use anti-fungal solutions for cleaning. Paint flakes falling If the plaster of the wall is not properly cured or exposed to repeated layering of lime or if the building has been painted several times, chances are that, the depth of the paint flakes will increase. In this case, the paint cement breaks and due to humidity the coating swells and the layers start peeling off the wall causing flakes. Before painting the wall, it is essential to brush off any faulty coatings. If necessary, apply plaster again.

Weather Proof Emulsion: There are two types of Weather Proof Emulsion –matt and gloss emulsion. Weather Proof Emulsion This is well known for its superior quality of exterior wall coatings because it has high levels of quality synthetic ingredients and durability attributes. With careful preparations and proper priming of the upper surface, matt emulsion provides an excellent coating that sticks to the wall beautifully. It also provides smoothness. It has special chemical ingredients that withstands moss, fungus and damage from adverse weather conditions and keeps the color completely intact. So to enhance the beauty of your house, you can choose any shade of Weather Proof Emulsion Paint. Weather Proof Emulsion Paint gives you a long-lasting shining effect for 5 to 7 years. Weather Coat Long Life This is an Elastomeric Emulsion Paint. This is an excellent paint for any exterior walls of your house. It has special ingredients that avoids and protects your walls from any hairline cracks. With careful preparations and proper priming of the upper surface, this emulsion provides an excellent silky coating. It has special chemical ingredients that withstands moss, fungus and damage from adverse weather conditions and keeps the color completely intact. To enhance the beauty of your exterior walls, you can choose your favorite color Weather Coat Long Life color from Color Bank. This paint will keep your walls shining like new for 7 years. Textured Emulsion Textured Emulsion can be used for both interior and exterior walls. This paint is even more powerful and provides a beautiful outlook than silk emulsion. With the help of a pattern sponge and a spray gun or a pattern roller, you can create patterned coatings on the walls. This paint can be washed several times. Along with attractive colors, various designs and durability, this paint provides a modern touch to the walls. The specialty of this paint is that painting can be completed with only one coating.

How much paint is required? Choose a room with a measurement of 20 ft length X 15 ft wide X 10 ft height. The room has two doors (each is 8 ft X 4 ft) and 2 windows with grill (each 5 ft X 4 ft). First measure the total area of the walls, excluding the doors and windows. By this way you will be able to find out the total area for painting the room. •

Calculate the length of each wall and add the total length.

Example: 20´+15´+20´+15´ Total length: 70´ •

To calculate the area for each wall, multiply the height with the total length

Example: 70´X 10´= 700 sq. ft. (A)

Calculate the total area of the ceiling and the walls. (A+B)

Example: 20´X 15´= 300 sq. ft. (B) 700 + 300 = 1000 sq. ft. •

Calculate the area of the doors and windows. Area of 2 doors = 2´X 8´ X 4´ = 64 sq. ft. Area of 2 windows = 2´X 5´ X 4´ = 40 sq. ft. Total area (doors + windows) 64 + 40 = 104 sq. ft.

The total area to paint the walls and ceiling. 1000 – 104 = 896 sq. ft. Now calculate the amount of paint required for this room.

Choose a suitable wall finish (color) For covering capacity, please refer to the table on page 22. To find out the amount of paint required for the room, use the formula written below. Painting area X number of coatings ____________________________ Covering Capacity For every 175 sq. ft. 1 liter of paint is required. Example: 896 X 2 / 175 = 10.24 liters (estimated) To calculate the amount of paint required for the exterior walls, please use the same technique. But do not calculate the area of the roof. To calculate the amount of paint required for the doors and windows, please refer to page 18.

Brightness Protection In your house, you have objects made of metal and wood such as doors and windows. For protecting these objects, you need the appropriate primer and you can use two types of enamel paint – Robbialac Super Gloss Synthetic Enamel paint and Jhilik Enamel paint, which is cheaper. Super Gloss Synthetic Enamel paint provides a smooth and shiny finish like a mirror. This paint provides protection for a longer period. Jhilik is equally glossy, smooth and durable. Although doors, windows and household items are of the same category, they require different types of upper surface preparations. The possibility of doors and windows wearing out due to humidity is natural. This is why special protection is required for these, unlike household items. For wooden objects if you spot a crack, gap or wood peeling off, you should use the appropriate primer and carefully apply putting on the surface layer to restore the smoothness. Concurrently for

How much color is required? The required color amount according to your wall and ceiling measurements is given on pg 10, and you can cross check with the table that matches the dimensions of your house. Doors and Windows Example: Measure the dimensions of your doors and windows 2 window 5’x4’ = 40 sq. feet 2 doors 8’x4’ = 64 sq. feet Total area = 104 sq. feet Multiply the above number by two, since both sides of the doors and windows needs to be painted, which means the total area now is 104x2 = 208 sq. feet Pick the color you want and check with the covering capacity on pg 24. Robbialac Synthetic Enamel Paint has a capacity of 200 sq. feet/ liter for one layer. Required amount of color: (Area for coloring x Number of layers, covering capacity) (208 sq. feet x 2 layers, 200 sq. feet/ liter) = 2.08 liter of Robbialac Synthetic Enamel Paint is needed Grill You will require the same amount of paint needed to color an area equivalent to the area covered by the grill. For the window grills covering 5’x4’, the area to paint will be nearly 20 sq. feet. Furniture Because of the complexity in the volume, size and design of furniture, you will need varying amounts of paint. To paint 4 chairs with 1 table (6’x4’), you will need approximately 1 liter of Robbialac Synthetic Enamel Paint.

White White is the only color which looks the best in natural light and no other color reflects light so elegantly. The snowy white walls and cabinets of a room will enhance the brightness of that room. Complementary colors of white are green and light cream and their combination creates magnificence. If white is used on wooden or metallic surfaces, it brings out the strength of these surfaces and lightens them up. Objects and pictures hung on the backdrop of white seem to be floating. Colorful linen and curtains also complement a room with white color. Blue Whenever you wish to use any deep color, blue should be the ultimate choice. The specialty of this color is that it has the power to create gravity in the room, brining other objects closer to each other. Goes well with light cream and white. Yellow The color yellow is as bright as the sun. You can opt for yellow color for your walls. Yellow creates light shadows in the room and can easily mix with pastel colors. When mixed with red, it creates an ambience of warmth and when mixed black it enhances brightness. Green Green can either be bright, pastel or deep. The color green has its own personality that attracts other objects in the room. The light green color of the room can be similar to that of a scene viewed throughout the window. Green always goes well with white. Apart from white, colors like red and yellow, even purple can bring life to your rooms.

Pink and Light Cream Both pink and light-cream are naturally aesthetic colors. Both these medium bright colors complement well with interior decorative plants and create a wonderful background. These colors evoke peace and tranquility when used at the entrance of your room/house.
