Program: Apparel workshops for women from rural and low income communities in Mexico
Puebla Sixth training session for our group of 27 beneficiaries in Zautla, Puebla. It took place on April 16-20 on three different locations within the municipality. The training session was held in the three locations in order to shorten the traveling distance in an equitable way for all beneficiaries.

Academic Activities During this training session the beneficiaries were taught a new set of skills while they assembled a set of men’s dress shirt and pants. This activity taught them the process of properly cutting, assembling and finishing a garment while correctly merging its parts; the placement of zippers and buttons; making buttonholes; assembling a trousers’ waistband and putting together a shirt’s neck, among many other skills that add quality to the finalized product.

As part of their lesson the beneficiaries were taught all they need to know on how to properly use and store their patterns. For example, they were taught how to place the pattern on the fabric, how to cut the pieces, how to label them, how to store them, etc‌

As part of the Human Development component individuals close to the beneficiaries were screened and selected to be trained in proper child-caring techniques. By receiving this type of training these individuals will be able to help the beneficiaries while they are in class or once they start their own business by taking care of their children for them.

During the training session the beneficiaries were able to clear all of their doubts with the help of the instructor. By the end of the session they assembled several garments which they were able to take home to their families or even sell. Mujeres Autosustentables provides real benefits to all of the beneficiaries!

Of all the groups that Mujeres Autosustentables has been training throughout the country, the Zautla group is the most advanced one of all. Soon they will receive training in basic business administration which will prepare them to market their garments, bringing them greater revenues which they will be able to bring back home to their communities.
