The Presidents’ Message
The President’s Message
Greetings Brothers,

While I was looking ahead to what would be the content of the June 2022 President’s Message I thought it would be primarily about the accomplishment of having Alpha Phi Alpha Way being a reality. Sharing the joy of this achievement with the Brothers, expressions of elation and acknowledgment of the Brothers who made this happen, thanking again the Brothers who organized and executed the very nice street naming event on May 14, 2022.
As we all now know while we were celebrating our achievement an horrific act of racial terrorism was committed against our people in Buffalo, NY. While we were slapping each other on the back there were people running for their lives and dying just for being Black and for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Wrong place wrong time – what an interesting saying. Actually no, they were not in the wrong place at the wrong time. They were living their lives going to the store there was nothing wrong about the place and nothing wrong about the time. There was something very wrong with the terrorist and his ilk.
This mass lynching by one person who lived by the code of old fashion white supremacy and it’s bastard child ideology of replacement theory is another smack in the face reminder that there is a long way to go to make this country and far too many of its citizens to live up to its ideals. Could he be mentally ill? Yes. So what. What his brain was fed from birth till now is the same garbage ideology white supremacists and their sympathizers, (conscious and unconscious), have been pushing for years and what happened on May 14, 2022 is another vivid example of what manifested as obvious violence and terrorism. But do not be mistaken that violence against us does not come from just the end of a knife, a fist or a gun.
So while we back slap and enjoy our collective achievement as we should. We also know and need to stay on point with our mission: “Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities.”
Fraternally,
Brother John “Tony” Wilson, President Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Mu Lambda Chapter
