World Scholar’s Cup was a life-changing experience. It gives one the chance to meet students fro m beyond their school and ST R A T E G IC P L A N
community, while also forcing everyone to think more creatively and openmindedly. " On April 8 and 9, 2017, Mulgrave hosted the Vancouver round of the World Scholars cup for the second year. Participants competed in teams of three against other schools from the Lower Mainland. The first day all teams debated, wrote, and took a challenging test. Many of the debate topics were ‘unlikely’ to actually happen, such as bring the dead back to life, because of this year’s theme of “An Unlikely World”. After debating all morning, teams started the collaborative writing aspect. The topics included history, social studies, art, literature and science, and were also based off this year’s theme. Teams had 25 minutes to plan their essays collaboratively, but after, each participant must write individually. The last event of the first day was the scholars challenge: a 120 question multiple choice test on all 6 subjects. The next day began with the scholars bowl—a fast paced gameshow-meets-scholar’s-challenge team event. Questions were displayed on the screen, and each team had 15 seconds to buzz in their answer. Afterwards, there was a show case debate and talent show before awards. The talent show allowed students to show off their nonacademic side while still having a lot of fun. Sahra Kassim-Lakha

Outdoor Education allows us to reconnect with nature and experience the beautiful BC outdoors in places like Loon Lake, Elphinstone, Camp Fircom, Anvil Island, Manning Park, and Rivers Inlet. This year’s camps brought adventures in kayaking, rock climbing, hiking, archery, snowshoeing, camping, mountain biking, and more.
Although sleeping did not have a lot to do with it, our G rade 3 Sleepover Cam p was one of the best experiences of the year. From eating at the hottest pop-up resta u ra n t on this side of the shore, to exploring our creative side through face painting, singing, acting and more, the cam p was 'the funnest time'.
Special battle calls, 'NO SHOWER' contests, and 'lots and lots' of paddling ("We thought it would never end!") a re some of our favourite m em ories from this year's G4 camp. For m any of us, it was a cam p of firsts - first time canoeing, first time sleeping in cabins, first time
M U D D Y F ACE S M A K E G O O D M E M O R I E S
For the first time, our G5s got to go on cam p in the spring instead of the fall and the change of season brought with it the sam e am ount of fun and, not surprisingly, the sam e am ount of rain. The w eather did not put a d am p er on the activities, which involved skits, hikes, canoeing, birthday celebrations and more.
G rade 6 cam p at Loon Lake had us com peting against each other in the w ater, against ourselves while climbing, and against other team s in archery. Although there was lots of learning, it all felt like fun and games. Highlights from the trip w ere the yummy food, sleeping (or not) in a cabin with friends, and enjoying the sunshine.
Cam p Potlatch brought back arch ery (a student favourite) and introduced our G7s to new experiences, like building fires and pitching tents. As Ziyan H. shares, the experience ran k ed high on the grade's list of favourites this year. "My favourite p a rt of the G7 y ear was cam p because we got to actually cook for ourselves, and we got to explore the wilderness. It was also our first time sleeping in a tent, so it was a g reat experience!
Relishing the opportunity to choose between activities, our G8s took up either m ountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, or backpacking as p a rt of their O utdoor Ed experience this year. Regardless of their cam p of choice, bonding with friends was still the best p a rt of the experience.
W hether kayaking, m ountain biking, canoeing, backpacking, or rock climbing, our G9s put to the test m any of the O utdoor Education skills they had honed over the years. From pitching tents, cooking for themselves, and planning for hydration, this 'real' cam p experience was "fun but h ard at the sam e time".

The G 10 cam p at M anning P ark proved to offer m any opportunities to test problem-solving and selfreliance skills as students pitched tents in the snow and built outdoor kitchens in freezing w eather. ATHLETIC BANQUET Celebrating a year of great achievements in athletics and sportsmanship
AWARDS
In early June, we came together to celebrate our athletes at our annual Athletic Banquet. Among the highlights of the night was a very memorable and heartwarming speech from former Canadian Paralympic swimmer, Donovan Tildesley, who spoke about his journey as a blind young athlete. He turned to competitive swimming as his major focus by the age of nine and through years of dedication and hard work became an Olympic medalist, current world record holder, and eventual flag bearer for Canada at the 2008 Paralympic games!
"Always follow your dreams and never forget to have fun along the way.'1-

2017 marks the end of an era for our graduates! In addition to Extended Essays, university applications, and a lot of dedication and hard work to complete the DP, the year also brought events like the Grad Christmas Tree Sale, Kindie-Buddy Days, Semi Formal, Memory Lane, the Grad Farewell Assembly, Convocation, and Grad Ball,

Mason Andrews "They say life is a highway and we all travel our own roads, some good, some bad, yet each is a blessing of its own." - Jess 'Chief Brynjulson
Nicholas Belluk Grad quote breaks up with student, saying, "He just can't commit to me." - The Munion, Mulgrave's finest news source
Michael Calder Even though it may not seem like it, your persistence will pay off soon.
Alexander Brun Words can't hurt me, these shades are Gucci.
Jia Lin Chen Thank you! I am so grateful. Wonderful menmories. Hehe!
Thanks for the memories, Mulgrave!
Cheng (David) Chi Life is too short to be average.
Matthew Cho "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them." - Andy Bernard
Emma Dean "Where does it all lead? What will become of us? These were our young questions, and young answers were revealed. It leads to each other. We become ourselves." - Patti Smith, Just Kids
Emilie Desabrรกis Remember to always strive for mediocrity... it's like the bourgeois of life.
Jack DeCooman Rain drops, Drop tops, I'm gonna make mills and that's a lot lot.
Isabella Edmonds Never have I been to a school where teachers and students form such a strong bond. One that is real in every way, inspiring us to do and be better. Thank you to my family, teachers, and peers for supporting me through what can only be described as a roller coaster ride. This is for the Grad Class o f'17: Matilda said, "Never do anything by halves if you want to get away with it. Be outrageous. Go the whole hog. Make sure everything you do is so completely crazy it's unbelievable." - Roald Dahl
Rafael Gonzalez "Life is a combination of narratives. Narratives can be either short or long and this experience has been a very, very long narrative. Though, it's not the broader narrative that I will remember, it will be the individual narratives, the thousands of little memories that conjure nostalgic sentiments that I will cling to. These are the narratives that when combined form the story of my life." - Anonymous The significant role Mulgrave has played in my narrative is terrifying. This circumstance is a reality that 1 seek to move past, although I understand that I may be Sisyphus. God bless TULL

Eliot claims that, "April is the cruellest month", but I beg to differ. June is, in my opinion, the cruellest month because it is the month of departure that marks the end of my seven-year journey at Mulgrave. To my parents, teachers, peers, coaches, and teammates: thank you for your unwavering support, endless wisdom, and, of course, daily dosages of banter to keep me smiling throughout the years. I have no doubt that there will be time in the future... time for you and time for me... to meet again.
John Jang Two quotes that helped me survive IB... Success is not final, failure is not fatal: "It is the courage to continue that counts." -Winston Churchill "Be patient. Sunita Mirzada Thank you Mulgrave for giving me this wonderful opportunity to continue my education in Canada. And a special THANKS from the noble family of Thomas who enlightened my life by giving me the opportunity to be a member of Sparks Academy. Dr. Rahim Thomas, Karim Thomas, Samira Thomas and the rest of this honourable family dedicated their time and knowledge to bring light and hope in Afghanistan life. "There are those who enter the world in such poverty that they are deprived of both the means and the motivation to improve their lot. Unless these unfortunates can be touched with the spark which ignites the spirit of individual enterprise and determination, they will only sink back into renewed apathy, degradation and despair. It is for us, who are more fortunate, to provide that spark." - Prince Karim Aga Khan IV
Haroon Nawroz Kind thanks to all my dedicated teachers who put considerable effort into making me a responsible student. I'm sincerely grateful to have spent a year filled with true joy, peace and happiness alongside my amazing classmates and teachers. My heartfelt thanks to Mr. John Wray who has always welcomed me with a smile, love, care and generosity. Mulgrave has provided me with a wonderful learning opportunity and is motivating us to develop our excellence to promote the pillars of “cultural diversity and international understanding” within society in order to achieve peace globally. Mulgrave, you are the greatest as you are the one spreading the light of truth and awareness in the world.Tndeed, I am very proud to be a Mulgrave student.
Ranna Mehr If you can't blow them away with your brilliance, baffle them with your bombastic sermonizing.
Ehsan Musafir An important goal of quality education is to equip each generation to participate effectively in what has been called ‘the great conversation’ of our times. This means, on one hand, being unafraid of controversy. But, on the other hand, it also means being sensitive to the values and outlooks of others. - Aga Khan IV Thank you very much Dad for giving me the opportunity for a quality education, and thank you Mulgrave.
Katherine O'Brien "Mulgrave is a place where teachers encouraged us to break the status quo and define ourselves as we choose. Where a jock can cook up a mean crème brûlée and the brainiac can break down on the dance floor. It's a place where one person, if it's the right person, changes us all. Mulgrave is having friends that we'll keep for the rest of our lives. And I guess that means we really are ‘all in this together'. Because "Once a Wildcat... always a Wildcat!” - Troy Bolton
Jackson Pike "Robert, my dear, it's no use. We've just grown apart. I know we've had fun in the past but we're just not compatible anymore. It's time we went our separate ways...such is life. I know it's hard but brace up chap. Maybe our paths will cross again someday. Think fondly of me, Mr. SquarePants." - Patrick Star
Sophia Sinclair "Don't wish it away. Don't look at it like it's forever. Between you and me I could honestly say, That things can only get better." - Elton John
Sara Somani "I feel like this year is really about, like, the year of just realizing stuff." - Kylie Jenner
Sebastiaan Prins Thanks for all the help from my teachers. I am proud to be able to say that I truly did stir the pot at this school and had a good time doing it. Hey and always remember.... "My life has been about winning. My life has not been about losing." - Donald Trump
Natasha Somani Thanks, Ms. Clark, for always keeping me cool.
Judson Stanton "The time you enjoyed wasting was not wasted time." Thank you to all the teachers for being so understanding and supportive through times of craziness. Thank you to my friends and family for keeping me sane. I'm beyond grateful and appreciative. I treasure the memories I made at Mulgrave and look forward to the new memories to come. I will miss everyone and everything (especially the cafe cookies). Once a Mulgravian, forever a Mulgravian. What a wild ride! I'm out :)
Mohammad Amin Taji Mulgrave was a life changing experience for me. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to join this school even though at the time I just moved to Canada. Mulgrave ameliorated this process all thanks to my supportive teachers and great friends. I hope the best for everyone and don't forget: "Don't wait for the perfect moment...Take the moment and make it perfect." - unknown
Qiu Tong (Fiona) Wang Thank you, friends and teachers, for taking part in my wonderful memories over the past few years at Mulgrave. I wish you success and the best of luck, wherever you are in the future.
Ziyan (Jerry) Wan; "There's no such thing as perfect writing, just like there's no such thing as perfect despair." - Haruki Murakami (Not in IB)
Jisoo You I'm glad to be out, but for all of the good people I met and the teachers who have given me so much support, I am truly grateful. I wish you all the best in your life!
Shuang Di (Claudia) Zhang As this seemingly long journey has suddenly come to an end, I feel blessed that I chose to spend my high school life here at Mulgrave. I'd like to thank all my subject teachers: for every illuminating class you taught, and especially for the patience to chase after my overdue assignments... Also, only at Mulgrave could I meet these wonderful friends, and only with you could I continue to pursue my interests, to strive for better and to define myself. I hope everyone has a bright future after graduating from Mulgrave, and never forget the time we spent together. Lastly, quoted from Ellen's instagram: "Cant imagine uni without u guys."
